Pretty sure Sephiroth's release singly handly shot Ultimate to #1 there.

Probably doesn't help that I'm not an Animal Crossing fan and that the PlayStation 4 just had 3 consecutive big exclusives through out the spring and summer.

It wasn't Nintendo's strongest year but there was a lot there for me and Xenoblade became one of my favorite JRPG's. Can't believe I actually replayed BotW and put as many hours as I did into it before Hyrule Warriors came out.

Played a shit ton on my Switch this year on top of my PS4 getting the most use it has since I bought it. Add on the hundreds of hours of PC gaming (with 400 hours in Iceborne) and I played a ton of games this year. Feels good. I completed a lot of games this year and battled the pile up of a backlog.

I question the accuracy of the total hours though because my 2nd most played game was definitely Mario 3D All-Stars but it doesn't list that in my top 5?

I played about 20+ hours of Super Mario Odyssey when that came out 3 years ago. I own 6 games on the Switch despite owning it since March 2017, it's my least played console.

The pandemic killed any time I had to play games this year. Having my wife and kid home 24/7 has killed most of my hobbies.

New Horizons will be keeping that spot for sometime. Unless I buy the DLC, I think Three Houses will be kicked off this list next year. XSEED and Aksys releases will be fighting for spaces 3-5 next year as well.

Again, it feels like January and February never happened because I looked at my stats like "Oh right! I played through FE Three Houses this year!"
