"Issue"

You mean terrible design and lack of a headphone jack is also bad.

Crazy that Nintendo can get away with selling it at a higher price with less features than the competition
Yeah. I have issues with my dpad too. A headphone jack would also be great, but since Nintendo is dumb and requires you to use a dumb app on your phone, the headphone jack is less useful.

It's definitely very "durable" feeling. I love that.

Admittedly, I don't use the d-pad much, but it's suited my needs for the games I play just fine. I typically play JRPGs, Smash and Zelda.

The no headphone jack bothered me for a bit but I guess I just got used to it. I'm also not a fan of the digital triggers, they just feel weird to have now, even if they're better for some games.

I'd probably recommend it, even though I think $70 is a overpriced for what it is. But hey, it's a Nintendo accessory.

This is the one controller that always makes me feel like I'm crazy, because I can't stand it. I think my overarching complaint is that almost every button feels like it has too much resistance, takes a little too much force to press in, especially the d-pad; even if it were as responsive as I'd like, I'd still dislike the feel of it.

I do like the shape and feel of the controller overall.

The dpad issues will surface once you play a game of Tetris 99.

But that aside, I do agree its a great controller, super comfortable to hold even for long hours, and great battery life.

I think I would have sold or given away my Switch after a week, tops, if I'd been stuck using Joy Cons.

Pro controller is absolutely top tier. Add analog triggers and some paddles on the back and it would be my dream controller.

Outside of the D-Pad and lack of triggers, it's up there. I wish it had the WiiU Pro's construction as that was by far one of the best and with a solid d-pad and god-tier battery life. Still use mine on PC when I don't need to worry about analog triggers.

Yeah, playing Tetris 99 with that dpad is impossible. I hope this new revision solves it without the stupid tape fix

There is no way this thread exists for any other reason than baiting people to think it is about a more powerful switch. And no one took the bait, so good.

I still haven't gotten the Pro Controller because of the price and the joy-cons are either serviceable enough or I play in handheld anyway... still, not having it, still sucks for the one game I want it for so badly - Splatoon 2. :-/

The best controller Nintendo ever made was the GameCube controller and I have no idea why they ditched it in favor of a 360 knockoff.

A controller with a even worse d-pad,fucked up button layout, trash analog sticks with bad dead zones and not clickable, and missing a shoulder button.

Cmon son, GameCube controller is hot dookie for anything outside of Smash.

Don't like the D-pad, Don't like the -/+ placements, and buttons feel too big.Only reason why I'm using it because the joycon right joystick drifting down all the time is a real pain.

It was a great controller, give it its due dude! That said, there was still room for improvements.

I have a Wii U Pro Controller and it's reeeally good. And thanks to 8bitdo Wireless Adapter, I can use it on my Switch when docked.

Don't be too hard on him. Nintendo forgot how to make a d-pad, after all.
I'm sorry, was I not clear enough? I wasn't defending the poor build quality issues that a lot of people are having with their switch pro controller d-pads.

My argument is that I believe people tend to blowup their use and/or importance of the d-pad.

For what reason, im not sure, maybe to appear interesting, or to let others know their down with playing the "retro' way, or maybe it's just because people like to complain and blow up anything to create drama( my money's on the later).

As I said I grew up playing on d-pads, NES,SNES,PlayStation, and I really don't ever use the d-pad, whether it be a 3d or 2d game. I'm sure there could be some that prefer them for 2d games, but I don't believe the majority or even a significant portion of the gaming audience uses them.

I don't know a single person irl that plays 2d retro games using an analog stick. For a $70 controller, I'd expect at the bare minimum for the dpad to function as well as it did on an NES controller.

Glad this thread is all about the D-Pad because boy is it terrible.

The lengths I am going to have a good D-Pad to play Mario Maker 2 is crazy.

Got the Left Joy-Con D-pad replacement, got the 8bitdo connector to use a PS4 controller. All after I've bought multiple $80 controllers for the exact reason.

In terms of battery-life, comfort and build quality it's up there with the best.

Yes, the d-pad sucks, IMO this controller shines when the d-pad is used for inventory management etc. it wasn't until I tried to play Tetris99 that I realised how bad the d-pad was.

Still, alongside the joy-cons it's a must-have imo

Not bought one yet because the dpad sucks ass. Honestly considering buying one of those ebay/wish knockoffs instead.

It's way better than those joycons, that's for sure.
I prefer the Xbox One controller, but it's the best controller Nintendo's made yet.

If you play a decent amount in handheld mode, I can definitely recommend this left joycon replacement.

Just know it's only good for handheld mode, because it has no rumble or bluetooth to keep it cheap. The dpad is good though.

D-pad aside, yes, it's a great controller. Regarding the tape fix, sure, it addresses the issue of false presses, but it introduces occasional response issues and still doesn't keep the d-pad from feeling terrible. I hate how loose the d-pad feels, as well as how much it moves around.

Could have been great but Nintendo's quality control must have been asleep with that d-pad. Switching tunes in BOTW was often a crap shoot, especially during a battle.

I finished Bloodstained Curse of the Moon recently and wanting to duck and attack in certain direction with the d-pad was also a crap shoot.

I actually avoid games where I might use to d-pad a lot now.

It doesn't have a headset jack which automatically makes it worse than anything on the other two systems before even looking at the other stuff. Like how in 2019 do you still not have that simple ass feature? Also the D-Pad is shit. Otherwise it's pretty good. It's most redeeming feature is that it isn't a Joy-Con.

It definitely feels good to hold, but the d-pad is awful.
I especially noticed it when Puyo Puyo Tetris released. I basically had to play with the joy cons, and do so with any 2D game.

Sucks, because it's a really expensive controller and decent to good otherwise.

It's super expensive for something that doesn't even check the bare minimum of checkboxes. I'd always heard that the D-pad had issues but I wrote it off as Resetera "literally unplayable"-esque hyperbole. That is until I actually got it and realized it was awful straight out of the box, I felt like an idiot for thinking that there was no truth to it.

The battery life though is very respectable and USB-C charging is swell.

I won't disagree that Nintendo should have had better QQ with the switch overall, but I also know gamers tend to make mountains over molehills.

Horrible dpad, bumpers that often don't register if you press them too lightly, stick drift after 1 year of use (with a basically useless 3 month warranty). Honestly this thing is junk, but it feels the best to hold in my hand compared to DS4 and Xbox One controllers. I could definitely see calling this the best if you have none of these issues with yours, but rolling the dice on getting a good one that lasts is also more expensive than the DS4 and Xbox One options.

Yep mine has been great. I really haven't had any issues with my d-pad. I don't think I do enough circle-ish motions to get it to register the wrong input.

The D-pad criticism is covered territory, but I'll keep making noise about me needing an headphone jack from it. It's frustrating that there's a modern controller without audio options.

Great controller otherwise, yeah. Might prefer some of the input feel of the Wii U Pro Controller however, although I am all about asymmetrical sticks.

Let's not praise mediocrity... the d-pad is garbage and the triggers are lame. But ok, it's better built than the shitty joy-cons at least.

I'll rate the "pro" controller under the PS3, 360, PS4 and XBO controllers.
