Oh that looks nice, I might get that even though there's a long wait, it looks good.
Yeah. I had a Skull & Co. GripCase on my V2 Switch and it was great.

For the OLED, I got the bundle that includes the NeoGrip + Maxcarry case + bonus of tempered glass screen protector. Right now the bundle is $31.99 but you can get it for around $25 (price I paid) with some coupons.

NeoGrip for Nintendo Switch OLED and Regular Model

One grip, two consoles - fits both OLED and OG SWITCH. Ergonomic design - allows hours of play without fatigue. Access the kickstand - never hold back your console. Interchangeable grips - 3 designs to fit all hand sizes. Dockable - no need to remove when docking. Slim design - adding minimal...

Try a few codes from here before ordering.

This is what I paid:

I have only seen the mura effect on really old gen oled displays from that era (vita, galaxy s3 phones).

My PSVR has it really bad as well, which is really distracting in dark games. In fact the blacks in general "glow" in dark scenes in the PSVR and are kinda crappy, at least on mine.

its what keeps me from buying. crazy that not a single review has talked about it so far.

Seeing how most TVs these days use PWM to adjust the backlight, I assume most people can't see it/aren't aware of it. For a long time RTINGS was the only TV reviewer even talking about it so I'm not surprised.

I've never tried a psvr, but I do have the original Vive. It also has an OLED screen and it also doesn't have pure blacks (grayish in dark scenes). Afaik, this was done on purpose. I think it was to eliminate smearing with OLEDs with darker content, or to ease transitions from pure black which OLEDs could have trouble with (or to address both?)

iwould have liked to have seen this same data on the 2017 model and also with the vibrant setting on the OLED (despite knowing it'll be even less accurate than the normal setting).

I'm not picking you out for any reason, but what I found interesting in the latest Dev Blog they put out implies that "Vibrant" is the OLED's default and the "Standard" tries being more LCD:

Taking that into consideration, we made it so that the player can select a standard color mode, to make it look like the conventional LCD display. If you prefer the vivid colors of the OLED display, you can keep it in the vibrant color mode that is default out of the box.

Kicking myself for cancelling my pre-order of this. I play 100% portable so a little more screen and OLED would have been great.

Not like it would have cost too much, especially once I sell my current Switch.

Maybe with a little luck they won't be too hard to get, but that's probably being too optimistic given how everything is hard to get.

Well, which mode has the more accurate colors???

That matters to some.

Why doesn't it matter what simply looks best to you and your eyes?

Who gives a shit what technically based on weird data, numbers and "specialists" is an "accurate color". As if the piss-poor outdated LCD screen of the normal Switch had anything to do with accurate colors. 😅
Choose what looks best to you. This is like the endless TV calibration discussions of "Cool, Medium, Warm 1 or Warm 2". 😅

Well, I'm not that much a stickler but I don't want too much saturation to where it looks wrong either.

I heard that there isn't much of a difference between the modes.

All I personally hope is that, for once, it actually doesn't alter from unit to unit (which is hard to believe cause this happened with every Nintendo LCD handheld since I can remember so far) and that there isn't a classic "yellow tint" on some units while others have perfect whites.
Is that even still possible with OLED? Idk. But this yellow screen lottery from handhelds to phones scarred me for life in the last 20 years.

So with a confirmed glass screen, is a screen protector even worth it? I've never used one on my phones and I've never had scratches…

To the best of my understanding, you can make two OLED screens look roughly identical from the start much better than LCDs (as the only real difference is brightness per pixel, which they need to calibrate anyway), however what won't be identical is their life spans. Some people will likely report pixels burning out sooner than others, much like flash storage writes or the online time of a mechanical hard-drive.

It sounds like there's a plastic film on top of the screen that I'd assume could pick up scratched

It's a different type of plastic. Acrylic is normally used for displays, but PET is used for plastic film. That stuff is generally scratch-resistant.

But feel free to apply a screen protector if you're at all worried about scratching based on your use.

Imagine buying an OLED but actually wanting it to look like on a LCD, lol.
You don't seem to get it.

OLED panels beat LCD in terms of contrast (due to perfect blacks) and pixel response time (less motion blur). Bumping up color saturation is not an "OLED thing." You can do that on any panel if you want to artificially boost colors.

It's fine for people to prefer Vivid, but Standard is absolutely the way to go if you want to see the games as they were intended by the developers with accurate color reproduction.

I am not buying a 3rd Switch.

But I wish I could have gotten this last year when we got a 2nd Switch. That came in handy when the shutdown happened initially. Screens and gaming devices were at a huge premium.

If I got one, I'd go vivid all the way. I'm not terribly fussed about the artistic intent for the color accuracy of Kirby Star Allies and Mario Odyssey. I want those colors to fucking POP

Hm….if thats the case I'm leaning towards not using a protector

I'm tempted to get this grip. Does it have a latch that unlocks and the switch just slide out? I had the first version of this grip but it was a pain to take on and off because of how form fitting it was. If this is just like the backbone controller and I don't have to snap anything onto the switch I'm going to order it.

*Whew* That's making it real hard not to upgrade. I still have my Day 1 Switch and I'm trying to hold out for the inevitable successor that may or may not give performance enhancements but would at least be backwards compatible. That thing looks real slick though and watching the DF video, seeing it in motion like that is just fantastic.

It might actually get me to play in handheld mode more...which means just doing it at all. I rarely take it out of the dock because I'm not much of a "in-public" gamer. No thanks, lol

Does anyone know if the new dock will scratch the screen like the old docks do when you dock and undock the Switch?

I would love to use mine but I'm on the road for work and the place I'm at now has no internet service and terrible cell reception, so I can't play any of my games. Driving 5 miles to the closest wifi gave me a connection that would take ten hours to download a single game.

I'm trying to copy the contents of the old Switch to my computer, format it via the new Switch, then transfer the files from the computer back to the card, but the Switch just requires me to reformat again.

Did Nintendo patch this option out?

Weird… I ordered these and now my product link, that's the same as this one, is busted. The label on the back of the package has the same product # as the standard OLED protectors except it has -V2 at the end. Haven't opened it yet.

So they already have 2 versions? I guess I missed that.

I dunno, I'm confused. I was wondering why more people weren't mentioning it and now I don't know what to think, ha.

Was listed as "amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector Compatible with Nintendo Switch OLED model 2021 (3-Pack),Ultra thin-0.26mm thickness" and sold by TechMatte.

I tried doing that when I went from OG Switch to the better battery-life model and it didn't allow it then either.

I think I heard the files are tied directly to the hardware itself, so you can't just drag and drop and have them work on the new Switch unfortunately.

This seems to be the case. I've been able to get two games downloaded and that is what I'm stuck using until the end of the year.
