I was extremely annoyed at so many people speculating about the how would X or Y game would run in the hardware revision, plenty of people may have seen my post… Why was I like that? Because I always assumed the revision would be a la New 3DS (I have no inside info or something like that, just a guess), which basically it's nothing to write home about and people are building up fantasies in their heads that not only would hurt them but other people who read them.

Even so I am still surprised that this seems a little less of and update than the New 3DS, we'll see when it eventually releases and people open in and inspect it.

I know, but I believed in the "insiders" who said this will replace the OG model :/
I guess I'll just finally mod my OG switch and forget about this shit until the switch 2 is released lol

surely I'm not going to replace my OG for this
a Lite for my son is more likely, for 2021 Christmas time

If the Super Nintendo Switch supports DLSS, it is going to be more technologically advanced than Series X and PS5

EDIT: editing because of people generalizing as "Nintendo fans". First of all, I'm not a "Nintendo fan". I do like Nintendo games, but I don't even own a Switch, even though I have in the past (I no longer do and I'm not interested in getting another one, not even a future Super Switch). In any...

I remember this thread where I said its not going to be substantially powerful than current switch just minor perf diff just maybe dlss doing 4k. And people went at me "so we are just going to ignore 4 years of technological advancements?" And went this thing will be more powerful than xb1.

I hope this met your wild expectations Gotdatmoney cw_sasuke
Thats the thread....omg....

Now a Switch 2, (or if an actual Switch Pro does come out) maybe we can revisit that topic.

Still, wild thread there.

People are actually upset at Nintendo for not delivering something they never promised.

Yea nah its not that, a lot of switch games have a ton of performance issues and out put under 1080p even when docked . An actually more powerful model is what a lot of ppl have been hoping for, irrespective of rumors

Wasn't there 2 rumoured switch upgrades from Insiders. Got the feeling this OLED upgrade is the first upgrade that'll replace the OG Switch someday and the Pro model which will probably be revealed closer to BOTW 2's launch date next year (my guess Summer 2022). This is just a screen bump. Its nice and all, but still holding out for a Pro.

Now I wonder if the successor will come before or after the revised models for the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles lol

Won't matter for me at least, I don't have any interest in mid-gen refreshes for Playstation and Xbox, that'd just be a waste of money for me. Only reason I was interested in it for the Switch was because in comparison it really did kind of need something like what the rumors were talking about.

But at this rate, may as well wait for the Switch 2 now lol

To be fair this device isn't really the more powerful 4K variant of the rumors. Still think it's gonna happen...just not this fall.

Kudos to the Digital Foundry team for being the only leakers to fucking nail it.

They were the only ones saying it would be an OLED-only upgrade with no new chip, which led to Nate and other leakers confusingly speculating about the existence of two models.

Def a worthwhile purchase for anyone that doesn't own a Switch, screen looks sick. For us Switch owners though?

Hard pass, wake me up when you decide to release an actual upgrade.

Mh yeah, I still think it looks really nice but 720p screen and no spec bump definitely kills any interest.

Nintendo insiders are the absolute worst

There needs to be some sort of power boost. What the hell. The games look like ass on a 4k TV and it's clear performance is becoming an issue too with other developers. What the hell Nintendo.

Some of the hatred in this thread because Nintendo didn't launch some unrealistic spec beast is insane. If you don't want it don't buy it.

The only issue I have with this is them not announcing it during E3--I wonder if that was by design to not distract from the games?

They did the same thing with the Lite, like the exact same thing. I think it's more that they don't look at hardware reveals as that big of a deal to make some massive event about them. Even the way the OG Switch was revealed was low key

BOTW 2 most likely won't release until Fall, they aren't even sure it will hit 2022 apparently

Bigger and better screen. Better audio. Better kickstand. Added an Ethernet port to the dock.

Not that I want to seem enthusiastic about this rudimentary proposition lol
I only play undocked so don't get me wrong I like the bigger screen but like, not for $350 when my Switch I have works fine

I think it's because the public would be asking the same questions, "is thjs a next-gen upgrade? why isn't there a power bump?"

At $350 it's a hard pass. Switch lite should be $150, Switch $200, and OLED $250. No way this thing should cost more than XBS-S.

Uhh with an oled display and most games at 30fps or lower this isn't gonna look great. Oleds have an issue at 30fps where games look stuttery

Well I'm taking all insiders with a grain of salt from now on. No matter how dead on they were in the past or how many people corroborate their story. This is a cluster of epic proportions.

I guess the truth of the matter is people will buy it, people with a Switch will upgrade, and it will sell well

Do Nintendo really need a mid gen refresh when they're doing so well as things are? Seems to make more sense to keep on pushing these Switch models and build up to a true successor in a few years time
im not saying they need to do a mid-gen refresh with more powerful hardware
but why isnt this just replacing the existing model? charging 350, and still selling the old one at 300, is shit

It's interesting though, because i remember a (Bloomberg, i think?) report that got everything pretty close. The Surface-style kickstand, audio, the internal memory. Funny how it isn't 4k [maybe potentially enhanced in specs to enable smoother gameplay?]

Regardless, i think i'm buying it. I play only on handheld, and the huge screen is very compelling.

Yeah, this is a fantastic jumping-on point but the only way I upgrade is if GameStop gives me like $275 for my Switch. Which ain't happening.

At this point I doubt we will ever get a more powerful Switch. Nintendo will just move on to the next thing and the Switch games won't be compatible with it and we'll have to buy all those games over again when they do newer versions of them for full price.

How is this any different than every other tech company? Like Sony when repackaged the PS4 into the PS4 slim, or repackaged the PS3 into the PS3 slim into the PS3 super slim? But this time with some mild hardware improvements?
All of those times you mentioned the price decreased. This is an increase in price for 4-year-old tech.

Well I'm slightly disappointed. They should have just waited and released a real pro model. I'm not even asking anything crazy. 4k docked. 1080p handheld. Doesn't seem unreasonable in 2021.
