To those wondering "How the hell does Pachter have a job" He's an analyst, yes, but not a games analyst. He is an analyst for something different which companies pay him for. He follows gaming as a hobby and makes predictions. That's it. He's no different from any other forum poster, but because he's an analyst who will talk to the press, people still use him as a source and for interviews.

Pachter might have some insight on sales or margin of the Switch vs Switch Lite and the fact that the Lite does much better for Nintendo? Thats the only logical reason I can think of him saying this.

At the same time, of course it's likely to be a better seller, as it's cheaper and everyone who wanted a switch just for their TV already got it. The majority of sales now are for kids/secondary systems.

It's not a better seller though. The hybrid Switch is more popular, even in Japan.

He doesn't. The man has never had a public, positive view of Nintendo. Never forget the trash that came out of his mouth about Iwata. Always treat his words as suspect. There are much better public resources available regarding the gaming industry. Some even post in this forum every month.

Though I use my Switch primarily in portable mode, the hybrid nature was a major part in me buying a Switch.

Do you have figures which compares Switch & Switch Lite figures in the same period? And I''m not talking about first 6 months of Switch sales (2017) compared to first 6 months of Switch sales now. But head to head since the release of the Switch Lite?

Only article that has stats kinda like this that I can see shows that Switch Lite had 30% of sales in FY2020, and was released half way through the year. Not enough info to really know how the sales compare head to head.

So an "easier" user experience for something that would give inferior image/audio/latency quality compared to the dock that allows people to play their games at better resolution, sound settings and no latency issues.

Fuck you, Pachter. I had SO MANY opportunities to buy the Switch Lite in 2020, but I want to play on my TV. In fact, I'm now waiting for the rumored Switch Pro since I have a 4K TV.

From last week's Media create report, the Switch sold about 2.5x as much as the lite and it's consistently performed like this all year.

It is - he has always been a hype man for the big western publishers and they make most of their money on non Nintendo plattforms. He isn't the only one though, expect more ridiculous takes as the new Sony/MS consoles are about to launch and after that.

He is literally saying that Nintendo should make less money and have a smaller footprint in the video games market. It's ridiculous but at least he doesn't beat around the bush with his obvious agenda.

Pachter and some other folks will be mad that part of the audience will consider the Switch in the future as well next to PS5/XSX - it's gonna be fun.

Yeah, Nintendo aren't smart. I mean they've only had the best selling machine for 22 months in a row thanks to the machine being a portable/dockable hybrid.

For how people were saying the lite sells worse, I was thinking it was much more stark than a ~40:60 split in favour of the dockable version. That's pretty close all things considered

That and I'm almost certain that Nintendo put out sheets that shows it's a 50/50 split between handheld and dock play.

And this take is just stupid because freaking Japan buys the hybrid model more than the Lite and that's handheld land.

Yeah let's phase out the unit where I can replace failing Joycons in favor of the one I need to complete toss out when (not if, it's a design issue) the joycon goes bad!!! I like the Lite but hell if I am going to buy it given the joycon failure carried over. Not to mention people do use it docked even if I personally don't.

My sweetie plays handheld, but I ONLY play on my television, and would stop playing Switch games if that brilliant suggestion every came to pass. The flexibility is the whole point of the thing. God this is idiotic.

the only not smart thing nintendo did related to the lite was remove the feature to let the USB-C port function as a video out. If not for that I would've legit bought one for actual outdoor gaming on the train and shit and then still use it on my tv.
