If they didn't fix the item notifications popping up every play session, that would be terrible

Anyone else know what I'm talking about? Like every play session, the first time you got a red rupee for instance, there was a popup that stopped gameplay telling you YOU GOT A RED RUPEE! Next time you grabbed a red rupee in that session, it wouldn't pop, but it would do this every time to start. For most every item every time you started another session. It was terrible

Twilight Princess HD fixed this problem so there's really no reason to doubt it'll also be fixed here. It likely existed in the original because it was based on the same code/engine they had been using since Wind Waker and they likely overlooked it in both TP and SS originally.

But anyway, I always find this being a chief complaint for a lot of people kind of silly because it's so absolutely minor. BUT it's more pronounced in SS because you get stopped for every resource/mineral you find. I can't remember if it was the same as the rupees where every session the first time you pick it up the textbox pops up and etc or not but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same. That alone would be reason enough to address it by itself anyway.

Like I said though it's probably fixed anyway because they did for TPHD.

It's just so bizarre because you know there's going to be some tiny QOL fixes, yet Nintendo hasn't announced any.

I definitely feel like they've been mostly like "hey, it's not good but it's Zelda!" in the advertising. I will buy it becuase I'm a bit of an idiot, but I wdo think it's pretty low on my rankings of Zelda games and I probably won't play it all the way through.

I bought Twilight Princess HD and played it for like 10 hours..

Played the original and couldn't get past the controller barrier. I am buying the remaster.

IGN: "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is the greatest Zelda game ever created. It's the best game for Wii and one of the finest video game accomplishments of the past 10 years. The game has once again raised the bar and forged new territory for an iconic and innovative franchise. It's not enough that it finally establishes a powerful, stirring origin story or that it features near-perfect pacing.

ExemplaryThinEarthworm-max-1mb.gif

Ok, opinions can be subjective but what the heck on that. Maybe if you only play the first half of the game you could make an argument on pacing, but the entire Song of the Hero section of the game is a pacing nightmare. And that's not even going into stuff like the Scrapper Escort or Skyview Temple Revisit or the MULTIPLE Imprisoned encounters.

Never played the original and honestly I'll probably skip the remaster despite playing every other 3D Zelda and most of the 2D ones. Just doesn't look like the game for me even in HD.

I had forgotten that when picking up items it would give you a pop up every single time😬

I hope that's fixed.

I still cannot fathom why this was left in the way it was - resetting every session with the game as if your suffered from amnesia.

Other than that - the game doesn't get enough love - was a solid Zelda entry, decent motion controls (twilight princess wii waggle was much more offensive) and that music. Who would have thought the Zelda tune reversed would be so lit.

I'll wait until this goes on some kind of sale. It's easily the worst 3D Zelda, not counting the DS games. I'm in no rush to play it again. Missing the amiibo pissed me off too. Kinda want to replay it before TSTBOTW. I got those Zelda joycons pre-ordered, though!

I tried to play SS many years ago (and by trying I mean I played about 10+ hours of it, did a couple dungeons, etc.) however, I always had a struggle with Wiimotes (everything I was going to play, they didn't have batteries or something) and I needed a HDMI converter for the Wii, since the TV I had was HD and didn't support old-school RCA plugs.

I loved the game and tried to enjoy it, but one thing or another made it difficult to play. Same thing happened with Super Mario Galaxy 2. I played maybe 20+ hours of that, but same problem.

SS on Switch is a dream come true. Analog controls is gravy.

Really hoping that we get more ports for Switch: SMG2 and Metroid Prime games, plus all the Zeldas. I know there's a crowd that wants new stuff (and I want new stuff too) but there's old stuff that can very well just get brought forward, and the Switch seems like the perfe

I kind of agree. Still on the fence about buying this.
Is it confirmed yet if we can use button controls in docked mode?

what more do you need besides some of the best dungeons in the series in 60fps with optional button/motion controls and portable + qol changes
The qol changes, where are they?
Classic controls? That's not qol changes.
What about the annoying hand holding?

I'm with OP here, the only actual new feature they have shown is locked behind amiibo. And honestly I was gonna buy it anyway (the amiibo) but it's not qol when you have to tap it every fucking time.

They fixed some of the worst excesses of the UI. I'll look at streams to see if they fixed the stuff that made me use a hack on Wii:

-The slow pickup animation for the first crafting object you pick up after each reboot
-Fi's useless messages. (I surely wouldn't have known that my health is low, there was only a sound cue and the Heart bar to tell me, so thanks)
-Text speed in general and only being able to skip stuff in Hero mode

If that's still in the game, I won't bother. They already did not do a good job in translating the DoF effect into HD, so more non-improvements will just kill my purchase.

Maybe there's just not anything to say about it. Everything they've shown makes it look like a barebones port with no meaningful changes to the game aside from being able to play without motion controls.

Best 3D Zelda game. But I already have the original, I don't need a lazy full price remaster.

I don't need to play Skyward Sword again. One of the weaker Zeldas by feeling outdated at the time in terms of presentation
and seeing the rough edges in reusing the bugs from TP, nothing to do in the Sky (basically no real overworld) and a lot of repitition.
Had some really neat ideas but man was it too linear

Genuinely wondering if the bulk of the budget went into the changes associated with figuring this out.

Being a critic as well as a not-critic, I can safely say this is quite possibly the best, worst, Legend of Zelda game.

Never played it and was planning to use a voucher on it.

But I'm undecided. Might use that voucher on Metroid Dread instead.

As someone who is a big Zelda fan but was mid on Skyward Sword, still has a Wii and a CRT hooked up, and likes playing games in their original resolutions, this game could not be an easier skip. I'm not convinced any of the new control options will be better than the original's (especially since I prefer Wiimote + Nunchuck to Joycons, mostly).

The entire game was a struggle being left handed. I ended up quitting when I was trying to give the last skyward strike against Demise because my wiimote couldn't recognize my movement for a half hour.

At leat on switch this should be less of an issue though, as you can switch the joycons via custom button mapping so that you can have both movement (analogue stick) and motion controls on the joycon (R) which you can then hold in your left hand. Does mean the button positions on the right hand are slightly different to normal, but should be more bareable I would think?

There's really not a lot to figure out, just about everything can be replicated in an emulator using a regular controller in one way or another, just in a really hack-ish way. The complexity of Skyward Sword's motion controls are honestly overstated, but it's cute how they throw just about every waggling gimmick into the mix. I imagine the most annoying shit on the joypad will be aiming since there's no z-targeting in the game for a bunch of stuff.

Oh yeah I consider the new controls a good thing!

For those of you in the US uneasy with the price of the remaster, it's worth noting all first party Nintendo titles are $10 off, in store only, at Walmart. You can pick up Skyward Sword for $50 on release day.

Skyward Sword is really the one Zelda game in most need of a treatment similar to the first RE Remake - a remix where some things are streamlined or cut and maybe some new content introduced. I also have concerns over how well the right stick will map to the motion controls for combat and switch.

I played Skyward Sword on Wii and quite enjoyed it warts and all. Under other circumstances I would consider rebuying and replaying the game on Switch. The price and amiibo nonsense are of no importance to me, however, I also remember my last attempt at replaying the game. There's a lot of stuff in the game that makes it actively unfun and you're just sort of expected to roll with them. Unless there's a lot of smaller tweaks, I think I will stick with my memories of the game rather than let a HD remaster tarnish them.

I played some of the original and there was a lot I appreciated in there. But without an announcement that they've fixed the pacing and the handholding, it's an easy no-buy for me. So many better games to enjoy instead.

The funny thing is it's $10 more than the original. Nintendo know they can get it though. 🤷‍♂️

If I ever play it again I'd be using motion controls, so I want something from this release other than just HD graphics to make the jump.

Confirm some QoL fixes, add more sidequests and NPCs, showcase new areas or mechanics... ANYTHING that shows that this wouldn't be practically the same experience as putting the disc on my WiiU.

That said, I must admit I never jumped into Twilight Princess despite having new stuff, but that was mostly because they decided to have the hard mode fixed to the Wii's map orientation instead of keeping them as separate settings.

I didn't really like the motion controls, but I found the game's aesthetic kind of horrible. I can't see that getting improved.

But all in all, I didn't like the Wii motion controls. Huge fun killer.
Absolutely. And it didn't even work half the time. You want to move your sword into a specific direction before hitting? Be too fast and you strike instead of just moving it. Be too slow and the enemy has adjusted already so you can't hurt them.

So not only I was already forced to move my hands around, which I don't like while playing I video game, I also had to fight the controls itself. Abysmal.

Basically, the motion controls were hyped to hell and beyond with this game. Then when it turned out to be 8 angles, a thrust, a special slash and... Jumping slash? Basically like the previous games it was just kind of sad. And then they didn't even work half the time even with the Wii motion plus controller.

Total mess

I played the original, really didn't like the controls, so having played it is an actual argument in favor of getting the remake for me.

What I mean is that whenever a remaster is announced the minimum that people expect is that it's going to run at a higher resolution, have improved textures and run at 60fps. That's like standard entry remaster content.
Apparently not for Nintendo. Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess weren't given that treatment and were still 30fps on Wii U, and still at full MSRP (which was lower on Wii U but that's another issue and not specific to the Zelda games at all).
Skyward Sword HD is also the first main 3D Zelda game to be 60fps lol

I played and beat SS once at launch. Got the special edition with the golden Wiimote+. Even bought the strategy guide to try and get all treasures and such (which I didn't). Playing SS once is enough, no interest in paying $60 when the original on Wii was $50. Now the Joycons I would have bought, but fuck Nintendo or whoever who keeps making these limited stock.
