Well I'm convinced!
Gonna try it for game night this weekend and see how the reception is. Shame about no online play (unless...?) cause they love new games to play with their uncle.
Thanks. <3 It helps that I'm sorta distanced from some of the bigger recent... uh, affairs! I can see the how and why here -- how this happened, why a mass migration is being discussed -- without being in the middle of the maelstrom.
At the end of the day, I just hope folks can find a comfortable, respectable, "y'all means all" sort of community that doesn't cause them headaches. If Era stops feeling like a positive portion of one's day, I'm all for them taking breaks or stepping away entirely. I just know there aren't exactly many places on the internet that aim to be inclusive enough for a lot of us to feel welcome.
(I say "aim to be" because I know we're by no means perfect at it. I still appreciate that the site was founded on those notions and I know there are good people, members and mods alike, who do their best to maintain that.)

This is just getting worse and worse.
I think quite a few of us are still trying to stay on Era, with some using Discord only as a last resort.
Eugene Jarvis (an arcade legend if ever there were one) said online might be added later. They put all of their energy into a 1080p 60fps game with tons of single-player unlocks and upgrades, and of course splitscreen/wireless. It's seriously the most fun I've had all year on Switch or PS4.
I'm not quite sure how people have come to this conclusion when it all clearly stemmed from the Matsuyama debate.
The Tales of Arise discussion sorts fizzled out several pages before that.

Pretty much. It was a discussion on whether Matsuyama's talk had much value with so much context left out of his talk that's apparently covered in the $500 book.
I appreciate that. I still think that era is a very good place to get a nuanced discussion on most topics. But when mods and users don't understand each other anymore and it gets toxic over minor things I feel very insecure about posting in some threads here.
I second this. It's exactly how a moderator should be - by definition in fact!
As a flash-in-the-pan view from a lurker who is not going to read all 50 pages of the MC thread... it seems to me part of the moderation is just too involved and has perhaps lost its way as a result.
It's a very difficult balancing act when you think about it... you need highly engaged people to moderate - else they are never here and never understand the communities - but you also need them to not be entirely consumed by it.

So I'm on vacation, so I'm barely checking this thread but it appears a lot of people are leaving. I'll just say my piece and get back to not looking at my phone.
I genuinely love this thread and everyone in it. This community has meant so much to me.
I'll be sticking around but maybe not engaging as much. As of right now I'll still say I'll do OT28 but that is now tentative, depending entirely on how much I continue to come here. I'll be in the discord though.
I do hope the discord can launch a channel simply called "Nintendo Thread Replacement" with a slow mode that can act as a one-stop thread replacement for those intimidated by the many channels.
To those with trepidation to going to discord: I genuinely hope you do at least try it. I see a lot of people I would genuinely called friends who I fear I'll never see again. Let me tell you, I wouldn't trade any of you for all the subway in the world. I hope we can migrate this community as a whole, as if we lose any one of you, we've lost this community.

As someone who lurked on the old site and lurks here now, hopefully the discord stuff ends up remaining largely a backup plan and this community can weather the storm. Discords are great but once you get past 20-30 people it ends up more like a live Twitch chat and I just find it impossible to follow. The forum format is a lot easier to navigate for me anyway.
Even though I don't post a whole lot this thread makes my day on the regular. It's been a beacon of positivity and general shenanigans

I think it was a very slight overreaction that evolved into a slightly bigger overreaction that evolved into an actual overreaction and then turned into a disaster. Having moderators use that kind of language and involving what seemed to be personal vendettas is pretty unacceptable. This was all very avoidable if things had been thought out a bit more from the start.

Yeah this is rather crazy. I don't like the events that led up to getting a Direct. Too high of a price.

Hey everyone. I mostly lurk but have posted from time to time. Coming to Era for Nintendo news and sales discussions has been great over the last few years. Everything that's been going on for a while leading to communities leaving the site, SalesEra most recently has been really rough to watch. I'm probably still going to keep lurking but less frequently and hop over to discord.

it's basically to declare, that the community stands on it's own and any connection it has with this site is no more.
Or that's what I've come to understand it means due to several other discord I'm in doing the same thing.
here I was likening the shitpost abyss to a storm when in actually it's a warm cup of coffee / tea / hot beverage on a couch by the window each and every quiet Sunday morning
compared to the bullet train in a tornado experience of discord

This is a very sweet message Derachi, thank you. In terms of the "Nintendo Thread Replacement" channel, they did that already on my suggestion (50cc_bunker). While it's still faster than this thread, hopefully some of that is "wow new channel!" excitement and it will slow down. I'd say it's still slower than the Directs channel.
