Not everyone wants to pay more for what (imo) feels like a rather lackluster addition, so the only way to prevent shitstorms is to have two tiers.
I really hope they do tiers. I've got zero interest in paying for 64 games I couldn't care less about.
I'd rather only pay for online mp and cloud saves to begin with...

Man I wish Arise was on the Switch...damn you Harada.

I hate to say this, but you should start to look for other platforms to compliment the Switch. Even a cheap PS4 if you can find one. If you want to play games like Arise or any internally developed Namco game.

It's why I had to go Switch and PC because there are still stubborn developers that skip the Switch even when the game could run on it. It is what it is.

Edit: When Namco told Switch users to beg for a port that's when I knew their eyes aren't on the Switch.

Yup, it sucks that I can see the "Sega to announce new RPG at TGS" and know that I can safely sit that one out lol

I have a PS4 as my supplement console but I'm 100% switching that to a Steam Deck. It'll widen my available library exponentially.

The problem with buying an additional platform for Arise is that you'd have much better games to play instead.

Tbh buying an additional platform isn't just for Arise but also other games that skip the Switch like the Yakuza series.

But yea you are right in that you shouldn't buy a platform for just one game.

Yup, it sucks that I can see the "Sega to announce new RPG at TGS" and know that I can safely sit that one out lol

Some people think that with Nagoshi being out of the picture Switch support will get better, but honestly, I don't think so.

I mean they don't even give the Switch much focus when it comes to even Sonic games. I would not be surprised if the new Sonic game ends up being terrible on the Switch because they didn't focus their resources on that platform.

The funny thing about going Switch+PC is that you'll be faced with the same sentiment of wondering why devs are skipping the platforms for no apparent good reasons.

At some point you enter a zen-like attitude where being fine with waiting becomes your final state of mind which ends up paying off more often than not (with Sony games coming to PC being the biggest recent example).

Team C.R.E.A.M is out and the race to prediction glory is slowly narrowing down to a handful of posters. Team Platy is hanging on by the skin of its teeth and will be hoping for a Mini or Partner shadow dropping today. Next team up after that is Team Obviously Correct, which cockily predicts the Direct will happen on the Japanese holiday next week. Nobody guessed other dates in next week, which in retrospect could prove costly to the thread's admittedly already horrible reputation for being right on things. If next week does not pan out at all, Team Gravijah is looking in pole position for the last possible regular day guess in September, with Team Brave looming in the background and ready to pounce come October.

I wonder if Sega, while "keeping" him in the position, has already cut his decision power to nothing. If people on a forum know he's likely to leave the company and in advance talks, Sega likely knew it far longer already.

It would be super interesting to know the timeline of events here. When was he demoted, when did he start talks with NetEase, how are the two linked etc. Sadly, I don't think we will find out.

I'm fine with waiting as long as the games come to the platform. Like for example, I have no issues with waiting for Final Fantasy 16 to release on PC I'll have other games to keep me busy on the Switch or PC until it gets ported. Like I legit am not gonna buy a PS5 to get early access to FF 16 or FF7R. I can see why others would do it, but I'm patient enough to wait it out.

Yup, it's easy to pin it on specific people but it's almost certainly part of the company culture.

When/if Sega's support of the Switch doesn't improve despite Nagoshi leaving we'll just change the meme to Nagoshi's astral projection blocking Switch ports.

My speculation about this timeline:

- Sega unhappy with the latest Nagoshi decisions and their results
- Inform him early that they will "adjust" his position, internally only
- Nagoshi get's pissed and NetEase approaches him
- Official statement on Nagoshi changing positions at Sega
- Word from Nagoshi talking with NetEase reaches Sega
- Sega, out of respect, keeping him in his "new" position while basically stripping him from any decision power
- Word of the Nagoshi talks get out in the public
- Dardan and Bonejack talk about it on ResetEra, while waiting for either, Metroid Dread release or a Nintendo Direct

buying a PS4 and only buying God of War and Bloodborne made me realize I truly don't need other platforms aside from a portable one (Switch) and a PC so yeah I'm fine with waiting now. If Kingdom Hearts can come to PC, pretty much anything else will eventually, whether it's through official means or emulation.

That's a shame, but I still don't get why would Sega be unhappy with the latest Nagoshi decisions ? Yakuza 7 is the best selling game in the franchise internationally, Judgement sold 1+ mil which is pretty good for a new franchise that's not even sold on PC, and even Sakura Wars sold decently enough to the point where a new game in the series is rumored. I feel pretty sad for Nagoshi nonetheless. The dude's a creative genius and was very faithful to Sega for all his career.

With Kraid finally returning in Dread, what other bosses would y'all like to see make a return in future Metroid games? (2D or 3D) Personally I hope Sylux has enough resources to build his own Quadraxis in Prime 4.

See, this is what I'm thinking about right now. I am really interested in Horizon Forbidden West at this point, but even if I could get a PS5 on time for its release, is it really worth the money for, as you (imo rightfully) call it, early access?
Justifying a PS5 purchase is getting extremely tricky for me, as I don't care for the home console experience and the exclusives could've been the ones pulling me in, but with those PS exclusives basically becoming timed exclusives instead of staying permanent ones... eh. Waiting sucks, but on the other hand, so does paying 500€ for a PS5 and fuckin' 80€ for their games.

As CCO (his former position before the demotion), he had a deciding power in *everything* Sega does, not just his own teams stuff. So failures like mobile games that didn't turn out profitable and everything are on him too.

For comparison, there's a dude many people here should know of that's also CCO at his company and when i say the name, you should get how much this position is invovled in: Kevin Feige.

And no, for what they intended with that Sakura Wars revival, it didn't sell decently enough. They probably bled a lot of money from the whole project.

If there is a new Sakura Wars it was almost certainly part of the initial plan. Shin Sakura Wars didn't completely bomb or anything, but it basically just got them the same result the game that put the franchise on ice did. More importantly the mobile game was a massive failure.

Ahaha, my first thought as well! Not expecting it to be Switch bound has made it much less interesting already, tho, ngl.

If you've got the means, it's always good to have more than one platform. It means you miss out on less and have a broader variety of games to play. It's the best of all worlds.

Xbox haven't done enough for me yet, but I'll dip in when there's more games I want from them.

While I'm happy about the Tales succes and the prospect of playing Arise in the future…

It still bums me out that sometimes developers do not give me a choice to play RPG's portable. Playing Vesperia on Switch was great

Thanks and my bad, I didn't thought Sakura Wars was a pricey project – it didn't felt like it at least. But still, Sega was Metacritic's best publisher last year. So the CCO must've done a decent job regardless of sales. And it also feels like the Sega brand haven't been this strong in ages... but I guess money talks first

Multiple platforms was my go to option until Switch. I've still had other systems alongside my Switch (initially an Xbox, then a PS4), but Switch genuinely occupies 99% of my gaming time. It helps I've always loved portable games, but it really caters to me.

Time is the biggest barrier to me playing more games, but certainly multi-platform ownership has a lot of positives.

I mean, yeah. If your shit doesn't sell, you're not going to be able to keep making those games that make you Metacritics best publisher for long.

Development of a game is a pretty pricey thing already, a full blown cross-media-campaign like the Sakura Wars revival is *really* pricey.

See Level 5, they were full on cross-media for pretty much all their stuff and see now where they are.

Phantoon and Nightmare in a good 3D game would be pretty cool. Two of my favourite series bosses and they could make them pretty creepy. I loved their inclusion in Other M even though I didn't like the game itself. Also just now realized that Nightmare in Other M is the original which messed me up.

I don't know what returning bosses I'd want in Dread. The "problem" is, that I absolutely love Fusion's bosses, new and old, but I also want Dread to stand on its own. Maybe we can salvage Desbrachians from Other M:

The new Sakura Wars was awesome, hopefully the new one isn't something dumb like a remake of the first game. I want another continuation with mostly new characters again.

Having different artists for the different groups was great too.

Maybe this will prompt companies like Square-Enix to revive other smaller JRPG franchises like Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile... and actually give them a decent budget.
Why would it when SE has a new crop of smaller IPs? Bravely, Octopath, Mana all broke a million too. They won't go as high as Tales, but I see no reason for SE to change course

They gave Star Ocean another shot not too long ago. Game was not good. As someone who grew up with the second and third entries, it pains me to say this, but I don't know if it would be a savvy executive decision on Square's part to keep going with it at this point. Not unless there was a sterling pitch from someone who could deliver something high-quality with a similar budget to 5's.

Of course, I'm just some armchair analyst. I'd love to be wrong.

They'd both be incredible in a Prime game, especially if they scale Phantoon up even further

Switch is amazing, but unfortunately as a dad it has now come to my realization that having two video gaming kids means that our two Switches is no longer enough for me to play.

Luckily I've got PC and Xbox Series X

Which makes it funny situation that I play Nintendo only after my kids have gone to bed and I can easily play my other consoles as they play around with Switch or do schoolwork etc.

Also my 7-year old routinely beats me at Pikmin now which is incredibly annoying and close to humiliating.
