It does feel kind of weird to do a big Metroid Dread trailer and also a big SMTV trailer before a direct, but between the last Smash character, more news on Mario Party and all the stuff about GB games and I guess it's still something that probably will happen.
I mean not really, they tend to have big updates on stuff still a bit out(Mario party, HWAoC dlc2, Advance wars, smash characters), a lot of third party updates, a few third party semi exclusive reveals and 2-3 new games either for Q4 or 1(Luigi's mansion 3/Super Mario party and Tms#fe/XBcDE for previous examples)

Whoa whoa whoa. utilitarian Is very insulting to use when Nintendo has done some very impressive cinematography in their games.

hell, look far back as too Ocarina of Time. Some amazing Cinematography that never gets talked about in gaming.
Monolithsoft are as far as I'm concerned the absolute best company around for cutscene direction.

Directs usually don't focus much on games that are releasing imminently. General Directs anyway.
For a while there they were doing Directs with long segments (like 5-10 minutes I think?) focused on whatever the next big game coming out was. I remember them doing it for Fire Emblem among others. The last few haven't done that, though, which I think is probably a good thing. Better to leave the longer marketing for outside of Directs to keep the pacing up, unless they REALLY want to focus on something

I don't think I've ever been truly disappointed by a direct but I can also see some people work themselves into a lather while other people just like to shit stir, creating the environment you get when one is dropped.

They definitely didn't do it for Fire Emblem, considering E3 2019 only had a fairly brief trailer. FE's focus Direct was February 2019

Come to think of it that's true. The Sept 2019 one also had a large DQXIS segment IIRC.

But lately they've been dropping overview trailers for upcoming games rather than heavily featuring them in Directs or doing dedicated directs for them. You're right, that's probably a good thing.

Good point, I guess it was usually a few months in advance and not RIGHT before like this would be. I was just thinking about how they were branding each Direct as "Stay tuned for a Nintendo Direct focusing on Fire Emblem Three Houses and other games coming out in 2019!" etc. where they would call out specific games in advance, and then give that game a bit more of a focus.

Wake up and glad I didn't pull all-nighter to watch Sony presentation. It still a type off game I would enjoy the story but not gameplay.

Alright, y'all, it's that time again:

When a Direct is announced via Twitter, how do y'all think Nintendo will phrase it? How long will the direct be? Will a specific game be mentioned in the tweet? What time frame will Nintendo say the Direct will focus on?

"here's a direct. now shut the fuck up. no Dane Switch won't be in it, mobile won't be in it, BotW2 won't be in it, none of your hopes and dreams are in it, your parents never loved you, and your dog is dead. enjoy"

roughly 30 minutes with a focus on their upcoming lineup and slightly beyond

"Tune in 9/15 at 2 p.m. PT for a #NintendoDirect livestream featuring roughly 45 minutes of information focused on current and upcoming Nintendo Switch games, including the final Fighter Pass for Super Smash Bros Ultimate!"

With how much Nintendo has been trying to manage expectations in advance lately, this may not be far off :P.

This is pretty likely, but I have a feeling 45 minutes is too long for this one. I say 40.

All this is missing is a "please understand".

This could be!

"Tune in 9/15 at 2 p.m. PT for a #NintendoDirect livestream featuring roughly 45 minutes of information focused on current and upcoming Nintendo Switch games, including the final Fighter Pass for Super Smash Bros Ultimate!"
This is exactly what I expect, except I'd swap out 45 for 40 minutes.

Ayyyyyy great minds!

If not next week it'll be the week after. Or the week after. Or the week after that week. Or the week after that week. Or the week after that week. Or the week after that week. Or the week after that week. Or the week after that week. Or the week after that week. Or the week after that week. Or it could be in November. #TeamNovember

Will you buy ME one for this?

In all seriousness, what are the best ways to get one

Got one from a target drop back in April, the closest I could get was one an hour away. Follow Jake Randall on Twitter and YouTube, he has good tips and following him and watching one stream early one morning helped me get mine. I even have the halo themed Xbox Series X pre ordered,

Any direct with Deadly Premonition is automatically great. Sure the first game is better but the coffee doesn't lie.

Dis anyone else get a survey from Nintendo today that had a lot of emphasis on PS5, XSX, and "how important are graphics to you?"?

Yeah I did!!! I spent like 30 plus minutes filling it out and when it said "press submit" there was no submit button!! I'm gonna do it again tomorrow I think lol. I'll screenshot the potentially interesting questions if y'all would like.

also when they asked how many games I owned for each platform they cap the number input to 99 even though I own over 150 switch games lmao

But yeah! They kinda asked questions about what was important to me about games, with graphics and processor power being options. It definitely felt like a survey directed at a more hardcore audience.
