*creeks on my rocking chair and waves stick in the air* Listen up Children, the GameBoy was a Tertris machine and don't you forget it.

It's easy to forget for a certain generation of gamers but the GameBoy had an entire console generation before Pokémon ever released. There is a massive (and excellent) GameBoy library that folks my age played the shit out of before we got too old for Pokémon before Pokémon came out and accidentally gave the hardware new life when Nintendo was trying desperately to replace the GB.

When Nintendo talks about adding value to NSO they're talking about Switch games that have online functionality. The bonus consoles are about nostalgia and preservation. I doubt they drive initial subscriptions but they keep guys like me - 40 year olds who don't play a ton of online games because we grew up on single player experiences and can't get anyone our age to play a game at the same time because we all have kids - renewing

For me - the Mario/Wario land games, half a dozen Final Fantasy games, more puzzle games than you can ever imagine, Konami side scrollers, some pretty excellent Zeldas, Kirby. It might not hit the nostalgia button for anyone closer to 30, but you can put together a pretty killer GBC offering without ever mentioning Pokémon - more if you could get all the Harry Potter and Disney licensed games on there.
I know it's anecdotal, but almost everyone I knew had the Gamebiy for Pokemon games.

Even myself, I only owned a few games apart from those.

Game Boy + Color has some good games but they're gonna fail to impress if they're the only additions

talking so much about Metroid history only to forego adding GBA games to NSO is gonna be some very lame optics lol

I'm just gonna keep hoping that if Gameboy games come to NSO, they go all out and give us GB, GBC and GBA all in the one service.

So who is this NateDrake person, supposedly a GB/GBC service is coming to NSO but I don't really pay much attention to video games, are they trustworthy

Looks like a SonyStan going by their avatar. Probably still using their "insider" information to spread rumors about Starfield Deluxe only on PS5, with Kratos/Spider Gwen DLC.

Let me just add RE: GBA, I hope I wasn't coming across as aggressive or whiny Gay Bowser and everyone, I was just trying to explain what I think a lot of the vibe of people's reaction to just getting GBC was. I'm still happy to get new games, and I'm definitely not trying to take anything away from all the people who are really looking forward to it, that wasn't my intent at all!

The GB/C had such a long life that this sort of depends on which generation you were in

If you were a kid in the first half of the nineties, Game Boy had tons of stuff

In the back half of the nineties Nintendo sort of got distracted with things like the Virtual Boy and the scrapped Atlantis project, and Game Boy software sort of suffered a bit until Pokémon revived interest in the system. From, like, 1998 on, Pokémon definitely sort of carried the system and helped extend its life, though there were still lots of other great games especially if you liked RPGs.

It's not that I don't like the GB/GBC, it's just that it was before my time and honestly not many people talk about Gameboy games that aren't Pokemon, Tetris, or Metroid 2

Like, I'm sure there are other games but other than this thread occasionally going "oh remember Mole Mania" I don't think I've ever seen any brought up

I know this is a shitty reaction but gb/gbc will actually be a very anti-hype announcement because it deconfirms gba anytime soon

it'll just leave me asking "where the fuck is metroid fusion" and maybe being mildly amused by mole mania

Nah. Aonuma said there's nothing else for the 35th anniversary. When BOTW2 is pushed to early 2023 they'll bust out WWHD and TPHD as make-goods
He did, but it was more like 'we have no more planned' which we have heard so many times from Nintendo. I agree that it will probably be held onto for if BOTW2 is delayed but id love to be wrong.

Nintendo was really good on their word that Mario 3D All-Stars was going to be taken into a back alley and shot come March 31st. I remember a bunch of people, and myself included, thinking they would just be individually released afterwards on the eshop.

But no, they really wiped that shit from existence.

I don't think we were ever going to get GBA before GB/GBC. The service started on NES and then went to SNES. GB/GBC happening pretty much says nothing about GBA, outside of the fact that it means at least GBA is possible.

If we didn't get GB/GBC, we wouldn't be sitting here with GBA instead.

I think people were hoping for all three at once.
