Kaze is the best original DKC trilogy-inspired game out there. The flow and momentum feel so close and feel more like DKC than either Returns game.

ok i'm in

Huge DKC fan that, for whatever reason, never vibed with the Returns games.
Both Returns games feel completely different than the OG trilogy. The movement is so much more deliberate too and it didn't click with me as much as I wanted it to.

The newer Marsupilami game feels a bit like the original DKC trilogy but I would put Jet Cave Adventure above it as a DKC-like.

No online leaderboards even for Wonder Boy arcade, right? :-( Do at least the local scores save? The first WB is one of my favorite games ever, been waiting ages for it to hit the Switch (the ACA release is exclusive to the japanese PSN on PS4), and I'm bummed for the lack of online highscoring.

There's no online leader boards and I haven't checked if scores save locally. I don't really play for high scores these days. I used to back in the local arcade where we'd get a cash payout for holding weekly high scores (which we'd immediately pump back into the machines, of course).

does anyone have any insight on the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm ports? the trilogy is finally 75% off and I always wanted to play them if only just to see the supers lol. They were ps360 era games so you would assume the ports are fine but you never know >_>

I purchased storm 2 ages ago and its a solid port. Visually its fine in handheld mode. These games are easily worth buying on sale. Story mode will give you plenty of hours of fun.

The Wholesome Direct is on later so I imagine we might get a couple of Switch shadow drops?

Maybe.

I've seen Silksong now being (unofficially) teased for the Xbox conference, and Game Pass day one - so it looks like it might finally be happening. We'll see within the next couple of days!

Heads up, not only are all the Jupiter Picross games on sale on the Switch, but so are all the 3DS titles, most being about $4.19.

My wife really, really likes Picross. She has S8 and maybe S1 or S2? She told me today she really likes Picross color. Idk what this is but I wanted to buy her some games that feature this mode (?). Which ones would you Picross folks recommend?

S3 & onward have Color Mode. S1, S2, & Kemono Friends don't have that mode. The main games tend to have 30 each. I don't think the mode is in any of the 3DS titles from what I remember.

Basically, on top of figuring out how many squares are in a row & column, you have to figure out which of the 3 or 4 colors you have go in which spots. It's a nice change of pace & honestly, I prefer it over Mega Picross since those are just the same puzzles but different ways to hint at how many squares need to be filled in.

Here's a trailer showing the mode off:

speaking of Picross, all the Picross S games just went on sale in the EU with the usual 30% discount

apparently I only have S3 in my backlog, I could swear I had 3 and 4. I'm about to finish 2, so I might grab at least 4 so I have two in the backlog, these games usually last me months if not years to finish so 2 of them in waiting is enough.

As expected, lots of adorable looking games on the Wholesome Direct, although because there's so damn many, they do kinda all start blurring into one.

For those interested, Lumbearjack has released on Switch. Believe this was a drop from the Wholesome Direct show as I dint remember it being there earlier this morning.

Either way, looks like a lot of fun and decent price too so perhaps worth checking out.

Anyone know of any good lists out there of wholesome/cozy games on Switch that's kept up to date?

I've played some of the more well-known ones at this point (Stardew Valley, Littlewood, A Garden Story, Forager, a few others), but I'd really like to dive in and see what I might've missed.

How is Garden Story btw? I keep looking at it in the sale.

Whilst we're talking about picross games, what's Pictoquest like? I like the idea of solving these type of puzzles in a gamey way.

I've already played Murder by Numbers before someone suggests it ;)

It's.....alright? It's much shorter & honestly, with how often I play the games, I almost never used any of the items you obtained, nor really spent any money. There's barely a story & the whole "finish puzzles to fight monsters or open chests" kind of feels tacked on.

Oh, I think I'll just stick with playing the S games for the time being.

Whilst I'm here feeling sentimental cos I've had a few glasses of wine, thanks everyone who still contributes to this thread and keeps it going. I know it's nowhere near as good as what we used to have, but I'm pleased something still exists.

its ok-ish, I finished it, but these days with so many S games (plus Nazarick, plus the Sega one), all other picross games are kinda moot.

Except Murder by Numbers since it has the narrative thing going for it.

PictoQuest is what you play when it's on sale & you've run out of Jupiter Picross titles to play/need a filler game to hold you over until the next Picross S# title.

I really need to get back to Murder By Numbers, I played the first chapter but then got distracted by other things & never picked it back up.

You'll know your tastes better than me, but I fell off that game hard. To be fair I didn't love the other OlliOlli games either, so I think I was expecting this to be a bit more of a deviation from the formula. Other than the visual overhaul it feels basically like the other games, and me personally I just don't love how the skating and tricks feel here. But if you really enjoyed the past games there's no reason why you wouldn't like this one too

Counterpoint: I found it absolutely amazing. Put over 65 hours into it. It's a major step up from the previous games as well. My GOTY so far.

Played through Mysteries Under Lake Ophelia in two sittings today and it was an absolute delight. Charming PS1 style visuals and the right amount of mystery/discovery. The description of "mostly a fishing game" is perfect.

fantastic little experience.

edit: my only beef would be it doesn't allow you to invert camera controls, but for a game like this it didn't matter too much and I was still sucked in 100%

Lumbear Jack dropped during the Wholesome Games Direct. I posted a gameplay video of the first 30 minutes or so. The game kinda sorta gives me Donut County vibe in terms of the cut scenes. It's just running around and breaking all the stuff messing up the earth. There doesn't appear to be much depth, but it's a good game to unwind with..
