Alright time for VA11-HALLA.

Spent about an hour with the game (and I hear it's about 10 hours long). I get the feeling I should piecemeal my playtime with it or I'll get bored.
I didn't really have that issue. Though you should look up how to make a Flaming Moai because it's not in the drink catalog and it's the only way to trigger the cameos from the 2064: Read Only Memories characters.

So, the switch lite + DQXI ignited a love for the JRPG genre so I also got Ni No Kuni and wow its gorgeous!

Finished NeoCab today and immediately started a new save file. Definitely interested in seeing the other potential pax and see if I can change the ending.

I'm still working through it. About how long did your first playthrough take?
Without Switch time recording it's hard to say. Five hours maybe? I've been playing it off and on since release. But there's plenty of content I didn't see and I definitely got the worst ending I think.

But overall I loved it. I really enjoyed how tight the storytelling is for a game where most of the storytelling is optional!

I got bored reading it as well. I am a big VN lover but I do not feel it at all. Many dialogues feel forced. Part of the problem may be that I am an Asian, so cultural difference may be at play.

I'm definitely liking what I've played so far (other than it's been one shift and one customer got creepily personal in a way you'd think would take some prodding), and the idea of a game about living in a miserable situation without the power to change it is super intriguing to me.

I like it at the beginning. Thought the mechanics are unique. You are right. I feel that the characters are getting too personal in such a short span of time. I kinda understand it though as the game is structured like that.

And the bold part triggers me as a Hong Konger even though I live elsewhere. Not your fault, just that I am so angry lately due to the situation at my home. I have completely stopped playing any game that makes me feel sad and down.

I tried the sequel having never played the original, and I just couldn't do it. The biggest struggle was the chibi overworld with the completely different art style.
That didn't bother me so much as the fact that they shoe-horned several other genres into the game. The kingdom building played like a simulation, and the military combat played like an RTS. Neither is a genre I have a lot of love for. I just wanted to play an RPG.

I got One Night Stand because it's super cheap and I remember enjoying the demo a couple years ago.

Built a discard/draw deck with the second character in Slay the Spire. Holy shit it is so satisfying. Hopefully I will be able to get to Act 3 with this deck.

Anyone pick up Northgard on Switch? I'm torn between that and Civ 6, but slightly worried about performance in late game (for both).

Collection of Mana or FF IX?

I might be in the minority here, but I find Final Fantasy IX soooo sloooow... The fast forward function helps when the battles start, but they take forever to load. Of course, some people are less sensitive to this. Maybe watch a video on YouTube for 15 minutes and see if it's too slow for you.

I also think there's too much dialogue and the plot moves at a glacial pace. Again, this depends on your personal tastes: if you like lots of dialogue and events, you'll probably love IX (I'm the opposite).

Never played any of the Mana games, so can't help you on this one.

FFIX is like top 3 FF's.

Mana collection is a collection of 3 of the best action RPGs around.

So, both?

Crosspostin from the Edge thread:

Should I play Sayonara for free on my iPhone 7 with touch controls (don't care about hooking up a ps4/etc controller) or on Switch is a much better experience and so much better to be worth paying €12 for it instead of €0?
Also is the hd rumble really cool or the Lite would be good enough (I got both but currently in Italy with only the Lite and will be back home in 3 weeks so if I want to play it now it'd be on the Lite)?

I played through it on my phone and didnt have any issues using touch screen, it isn't a very complicated game at all. If you already have Apple Arcade it's a no brainer. I wouldn't say the Switch experience is 'much' better, just would be cool to have it on the big screen for sure.

I really don't like the touch controls on an iPad, but they might be better on a phone with a smaller screen. Getting through the game hasn't been too bad because of how many checkpoints there are, but I think getting higher ranks would be awful with how unresponsive it is.

Since you have it for free anyway, may as well just try it out.

Anyone know if the dragon quest demo has cloud save?

I've played around 4 hours of it on my original Switch, but I think I'd like to finish off the rest on my Lite.

I don't think it does, I had to put the physical game in my original switch, transfer from the demo, then upload to the cloud from the full game, to be able to download and continue on the Lite...

I might grab Disgaea 4 after all if it gets that 20% off pre-order discount when pre-purchase goes live on eShop that it has on PSN (though it is tied to PS+ on PSN so who knows)

god, I am obsessed with Slay the Spire. It easily sits alongside Dead Cells and Into the Breach as one of the best roguelikes/roguelites ever made. It's now my GotY.

Anyone play The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa? Never heard of it before, but I just saw it in a random video and it looks great lol. Is there more to it than just a side scrolling brawler? I mean it looks like it is, and for like $11 im willing to give it a shot.

It's not on sale or anything but I bought Friday the 13th and it is one of the most fun multiplayer games on the system for sure. Thankfully it's super fast to get into a game, but would love to play with people here if anyone else is also into it.

On a similar note, I also tried Dead by Deadlight and...I dunno. Getting into a game as the killer can take like 5 to 7 minutes at best, and even then I just can't get into the loop of the game since all these intimidating killers ever do is put you on a hook a couple of times and that's it. I guess some of the magic is lost for me when none of the slashers in the game actually kill you in cool ways.

I will keep at it since it can definitely get tense at times and it is a bit simpler in terms of mechanics and win conditions than Friday the 13th, but in comparison it just seems like Friday just has a whole lot more charm.

I haven't played it myself, but I know there has been numerous positive comments about the game in the past. Check out the thread for the month when it was released, and you should be able to find quite a few impressions.

It's a fantastic game and probably my favorite this year, but side scrolling brawling isn't exactly the point of the game.
Existential open world beat them all is actually quite an accurate description of what it is.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll probably be content with playing the iOS version then

I put it on last night for the first time in a couple of months and instantly remembered why I liked it so much.

I've still never been able to finish a run because I'm rubbish, but I do enjoy attempting it..

Death Mark if you like horror. Cinders is pretty enjoyable. Dream Daddy is funny and rather well-written if you're open to it. Also 2064: Read Only Memories and VA-11 HALL-A are no-brainers if you haven't played them.

I finished AI:Somnarium Files at the recommend and can't recommend it enough.
It has some usual really shitty content (ongoing joke about the protag's agility is increased when he's thinking of porn) but thankfully it barely contributes to the overall % of the game.

Outside of that, the writing is excellent and the constant twists and turns will keep you on yr feet.

What big Switch games are coming in November aside from Pokemon? I'm just trying to plan ahead.

Pre-purchased Luigi's Mansion, and I still need to grab Spirit Hunter and Obra Dinn this month.

Just got a Switch Lite and playing Link's Awakening, might have to jump on Witcher 3, played it on PC with a 980 GPU when it first came out so be interesting to see how it handles.

Switch version.

Really did not like the lane-based movement that touch controls impose on some of the levels.
