I've got a review code of Lonely Mountains Downhill! I look forward to post some impressions here, too.

The game's icon is trash, unfortunately. It lacks the title, but ok let's go

Anyone here who can hook me up with a NINTENDO ONLINE spot in a family sub?

Will Paypal in advance no problem.

Wonderful 101

[/snip]

But third time is the charm, right? A month or two went by, I watched a few more tutorials on YT, gave it a final try and oh boy, did the game click. It was such an amazing experience, and the final levels are batshit insane 0_0

The thing is, there are some basic skills you definitely have to master to enjoy it, but the game just throws you loads of stuff and leave you with no idea on what you should focus. There are also many details in the gameplay that are very important, but you'll probably never notice by yourself. This is why watching good tutorials is pretty much a requirement to enjoy the game. I hope they tweak the game a bit this time to give the player some directions, because once you get how things work, it's a blast.

Care to share some of the good tutorials you've found to help you understand/appreciate it?

I mean, it took 2+ years, 4 tries and modded PC port, for Dark Souls to make my GOTG top3.

Awesome. Thanks buddy this'll come super helpful come release date because I'm pretty sure my friend who's rather impatient with games would have dropped T101 in frustration otherwise

Any opinions on X-Morph Defense? I played the demo and enjoyed it, but hear it is quite short. Also, is any of the DLC worth getting?

So, after seeing a few people in this thread vaguely mentioning that the demo of The Casebook of Arkady Smith would be worth a download, I gave it a go myself. I can see where everybody is coming from - the game seems like an early PC open world game from the late 90s. All the NPCs walk straight ahead mindlessly (or stand around mindlessly), the locations are open and "empty", no voice acting, the car driving sequences seem to be added on just so give you something to do while you drive around, and the internal logic is twonky - I actually visited a bar and it was empty (like pretty much everything in the city), so I went to a security center to activate a murder mystery which just happened to take place in the bar I had visited. It suddenly had a cop car outside, some barriers, a dead body, two NPCs, and some items to inspect. At its most basic level, it is a murder mystery where you have to look for all the clues and talk to witnesses, scan for fingerprints and so forth, then solve it by naming the murderer, the motive, etc.

I am fascinated by it - its a relic of an earlier time, and it seems to be quite earnest. The lighting effects in the water puddles of the city are amazing. The neon lights are cool. The little bits of world building in this Blade Runneresque future seem to be interesting.. but its so empty, the open world concept generally a lie. And the main character runs like a malfunctioning robot.

Has anyone else tried it out?

I played roughly an hour of Lonely Mountains: Downhill and man, game rocks!

You start from the top of the first mountain, you have to complete the first trail once and so unlocking challenges for that trail, new costomization parts for the bike and biker, new trails, new mountains (4 in total). Each mountain has 4 trails and for what I've seen is very different in terms of visuals (the last one being a desert/canyon setting).

And this is it. You have to unlock 5-6 more bikes with different characteristics. Basically you have to descend the mountain and get to the finish line, but you want to improve your times finding for shortcuts and getting better at the game, to complete challenges. Each trail's final challenge is to complete it without checkpoints, which means without dying. And you'll die a lot. It's a game of risk and reward, you want to go fast but be safe at the same time. Good news is the control system is very, very good. You accelerate with ZR, brake with ZL, sprint with A. The camera does a good job making the action on screen always clear and controls are particularly intuitive and responsive. There's no music of sort, only environment noises like birds, water, wind, and it's beautiful.

In terms of visuals I must say I expected the game to be a little cleaner, aliasing is a bit intrusive and resolution is not ideal, but it looks fairly good regardless. I've played in handheld mode only for now, and performance aren't stellar, neither. The game is perfectly playable but frame rate is inconsistent with frequent stutters here and there.

Anybody got any recs for fun rpgs/action rpgs? Really want something to play while I watch stuff but haven't found anything. I am digging Cosmic Star Heroine but the sci-fi setting isn't really my thing.

Hmm I was debating picking up Lonely Moutains after playing it on Game Pass but that Switch performance doesn't sound great.
I was reading of frame rate hiccups in the PS4 version, too. But I don't really know how it runs on other systems.
Performance is not ideal, but I wouldn't say it's bad at all, the game is great fun nonetheless. Now, it's too early to fully recommend it at full price, not because performance issues but because I've played too little of it.
Early prediction is I'll recommend it to everyone because it's really unique (as you've already realized) and controls great.

Moonlighter and Children of Morta are cheap and pretty breezy. Morta has a little story that's worth reading, but it's pretty sparse. Moonlighter barely has any.

If you're ok with strategy RPGs: langrisser 1+2 is a package of 2 pretty good old-school srpg. They're not too hard, so you should be able to play while you watch fairly well, there is a demo.

Not really an RPG as much as it is a puzzle game disguised as an srpg: ambition of the slimes is really good. Does require some thought and planning though so maybe not the best option.

Why is Ion Fury four times larger on the Switch than the PC? 91 MB vs 408 MB?

Dauntless performance is pretty good! And cross-progression is super slick! I downloaded the game to my Switch, fired it up and I had all my progression from the PS4 version of the game.

Ever since I picked it up last month, SmileBASIC 4 has been a constant fixture on my Switch. Seemingly every day there's a new game or app to check out.

Recently, somebody used Sonic the Hedgehog 1 assets to make a Fantasy Zone-esque shmup called 'Sonic's Sky Patrol'.

IIRC the dev's previous work is the extremely polished 'Reflection Force'.
(WARNING: The audio is a mess in this vid)

There's also the ridiculously addictive 'Segtris'.

'GASWITCH' is a superb Galaga clone.

Bought Lonely Mountains: Downhill and played for a short while.
Game seems great, but I have some issues with the controls. I like the left/right controls (tank controls basically), but the default option (camera-based) seems to control the exact same way? Maybe there's something I'm missing, but it could be a bug I guess.

(Solved it: apparently it doesn't work if you change the controls through "Controls", but changing them through "Options > Controls" does work)

I love how Kill La Kill If is 63% off in the eur ps store, while in the eur eshop...
Is only 10% off.
I know the game is cheaper on Switch (20€ vs 40€), but really? Only 10% off?

Instantly bought 80's Overdrive and instantly regret it.

There's so much of a delay between the time you press left/right to steer that you can spam a direction and the car won't move. It makes any sort of precise steering impossible.

I hope it's something that will be fixed either by upgrading the vehicle, or in a patch, but I doubt it.

I always recommend this one. It's an isometric beat 'em up with four typical D&D archetypes (though it's not licensed). I have a few Johnny Turbo releases and this one is easily my favorite (some might argue Wizard Fire, the sequel, is better, but I really like Gate of Doom).

Indie Puzzle Bundle Vol 1

Can't speak for the other games, but Glass Masquerade alone is worth the price. A puzzle game with beautiful stained-glass images. Not challenging at all, but very nice and relaxing.

Goetia

Super cheap and slightly creepy (not scary) adventure game. You control the spirit of a dead girl, talk to demons, etc. It's pretty good and fans of the movie "Hereditary" will find this one interesting for a certain reason...

Persian Nights: Sands of Wonders

One of those hidden-object games, but this one is a bit more of a point and click adventure. It's not great by any means, but graphics are pretty, voices are fine and I love the Persian theme, so it was a nice distraction for me.

Trying out Juicy Realm since it was on sale. Looks nice, I love the art style, but on everything is so small. I'm on a Lite, and it's kinda annoying.

Use the d-pad.

Dunno why the game doesn't support analog steering. It was the same way in the 3DS, it just ignores the analog input until after a certain threshold, then it uses a constant steering amount.

It's such a bad decision but the game is not bad beyond that.

Oh great, my credit card suddenly started acting up, and customer service is closed until Sunday.

I've been going through some games and apps, and there's some cool stuff. It's also nice seeing notable SB3 games updated to this new version. The Sonic assets and anything using them will get removed soon, so hopefully we'll see some more cool things until it's gone.

Thanks for these impressions. I'm really torn on where to get it. I'd love to get it on the switch to have it on the go, but I dunno how much the performance issues would really bother me. I wonder if they'd be able to clear that up down the line.

Regretting grabbing Lonely Mountains: Downhill on the Switch. Considering the theme of the game, the frame rate is really poor and the stuttering really takes me out of the whole zen nature of the game. If Nintendo allowed refunds then I'd be putting in for one.

A couple of other things to do with the Pro controller. The game turns off the Pro controller when the game loads up. And despite a Pro being used, it still shows joycons for displaying the control scheme.

On top of someone tweeting the devs to say their game is showing in the French translation that the game isn't sure if they're on PS4 or Xbox even though they're on the Switch, it makes me wonder how much effort they put in to this port really.

Oh, performance is bad then? That sucks it was one of the games I was waiting for a switch release to play. On to wait for a patch and a sale then.

One way I would describe it is that on my Xbox I feel like I'm fighting the course. On the Switch I feel like I'm fighting the game.

The devs replied to my tweet and asked if a 30fps lock would be useful, and I'm not the first to tweet them about performance, so hopefully they're looking into it.

The game itself is superb. But you're not getting anything close to the best playing experience on the Switch port. I'm aware it's not a powerful device but looking at it from an experience point of view, this isn't a great port at all.

Nintendo life gave it a 9 and, although they tend to give high scores and are not very technical, I was hoping the game would run ok.

What engine does it use? Is it unity?

Is it blurry in portable mode?

Glass Masquerade is a gem, but I felt it was way too short. Finished it in less than 2 hours total playtime spread over a few sittings a couple weeks back. I think the sequel has more puzzles overall so I'm itching to get that once it's on sale.

Uses Unity.

Just tried handheld as you asked and surprisingly it runs a lot better. Overall image is blurrier but that's not too much of an issue. The background is blurred a LOT until you get close to it which can be a bit distracting.

But yeah, maybe handheld is the best way to play this.

Really weird is that from the videos i see of the game(Lonely Mountains: Downhill) on switch i doesn't looked that bad. i Noticed some hiccups here and there but it looked like it was when i played it on gamepass.

Now i'm on the fence if i should get the game for the switch since that's where i mainly play all my games.

How is Splatoon 2 for single player content? I've never played Splatoon 1.

While it's possible I fall in love with the game's multiplayer, I'm typically not a multiplayer person. It's 60 bucks for the full game on sale + DLC, do you guys think there's enough for a single player experience?

Splatoon 2 single player is a really excellent game in its own right. I think there's enough there to justify the purchase, especially on sale. The gameplay is so well tuned, it has amazing graphics, deep lore - top production values throughout. The Octo expansion is also wonderful.

Sounds great. I checked How Long To Beat and it said 7 hours for both the Splatoon 2 and Octo campaigns, so 60 bucks for a solid 15 hour experience in addition to multiplayer seems like a very valuable purchase. I think I'll go ahead and download it, thanks!
