Fun story: when you buy digital switch games (as in digital codes), you get the full amount of gold coins (because the system doesnt know if it was on sale or not)
This is cool. Does BrazilERA know if Brazilian digital codes work on the US eShop? This would help me (paying in real is just simpler even if the conversion rate makes it the same price).

Does Virtua Racing hold up for someone who has never played it? It looks cool and it reminds me a bit of Stunt Rally on the SNES.
Its really good. Takes a little while to nail down the manual gear shifting (you can set it to auto, but for those best times manual is the way to go). Its just a blast to play, classic Sega arcade game - timeless.

Rime on sale for 50% off. Hmmm.

Played an hour or two on Game Pass, felt like the gameplay itself wasn't engaging. I don't doubt the story would become compelling and the graphics are unquestionably beautiful, but it was too lean on engaging gameplay to me. Same with Abzū. So if you want more engaging/challenging gameplay in your 3D third person adventure narrative art games, you may not find it worth the purchase. I know 1-2 hours isn't a ton of time to have given the game but it's not a very long game. Thread I made at the time in case it's useful.

For frame of reference, in case it's useful, recently played Oxenfree and enjoyed it a ton and previously played and loved Life is Strange and its prequel. (All 3 on Game Pass FWIW.

Actual really enjoyed Rime. It's not the most involved gameplay but the story is nice and some good puzzles. What's weird is your frame of reference are games with less gameplay than Rime or Azbu. Although I believe switch version of Rime has technical issues, so that's something to be weary

I see what you mean. The reason I brought those up as examples is that they're usually talked about as not being super gameplay heavy. For me it just depends on how you define engaging gameplay. Oxenfree and especially LiS felt more interactive and gameplay heavy to me. The disappearing dialogue choice system and radio system felt more immersive to me in Oxenfree. LiS has so many things you can interact with everywhere and the rewind and character interaction mechanics for gameplay. So I think it just comes down to what engaging gameplay means to you personally. Either way, definitely wasn't meaning to knock on Rime, just thought an alternate perspective might be helpful for Freezasaurus or anyone else reading.

I also love Oxenfree and Life is Strange. Think I was coming from a place of gameplay referring to interacting with objects and platforming etc, rather than dialogue. Definitely worth listening to alternative views though. I would say that Rime is probably closest to Journey in the gameplay stakes, although Journey is on another level for me.

These eshop sales are awful. So much crap.

Any hope for other sales this week? Does it update today?
The majority of weekly offers are updated on Thursdays, at least in EU, but whether the deals are decent is always a matter of opinion. But I have far too many uncompleted switch games suggesting a lot of the sales are decent.

five posts above you...

Thanks

Nintendo just sent me an email saying Virtua Racing and Wonderboy were NOW AVAILABLE. But of course they are not.
Even Nintendo doesn't know when their eshop updates!

Didn't think I'd be saying this a week ago, but I think I'm going to be skipping Mario Maker 2. At least at launch.

Huh. La Mulana 2's out on the Japanese eShop.

If it has English text, I think I know what I'm going to use my Mario Maker 2 money on.

Virtua Racing not available yet...really want to try it out
I got an email from Nintendo that Virtua Racing is available to download but there's no option to buy when I go to the game store page! Christ I've been checking on this game for weeks. Every other new game has a purchase button but not VR? Even that softcore porn anime game with cafe girls got a buy button at midnight but not VR. There's no justice in this fucked up world.

It unlocked at 11pm AEST (Australia). Played it for an hour, its great. Hopefully Sega Rally or Daytona also get released on the Switch one day.

Sooo Dandy Dungeon. I bought this on iPhone when it released way back for like 5 bucks. I remember having a lot of fun with it, but whoa it's now $25 on Switch?! That's a freaking massive price increase. Anyone know if it's been majorly added on to or upgraded to justify the higher cost?

Theres a DQB2 demo out in the EU shop (at least) so you can at least check out performance I guess (wasnt there reports the japanese version was a bit rough?)

Kinda fell off Dead Cells after a few hours.. I like the combat but it's tiresome to go through the first few areas again every time I die, and I've realized what I really like about these sorts of games is the level design, which obviously doesn't excel in a randomly generated game.. Kinda wish I had gone for Hollow Knight instead. I'll probably return to it at some point though. My Switch hasn't been getting much use lately since I've been playing Outer Wilds. Really wish that game was on Switch, it'd be well suited to the short play sessions.

Might pick up Virtua Racing when it comes out. Never played it but I love the low-poly look.

After a very long wait I've finally gotten to play Virtua Racing and I really like it, especially the graphical style!

Any chance they put Sega Rally on Switch!??

Sega Rally's issue (as well as many other Sega racers of the time) is that the licensing stops them from easily being re-released. They could get the car licenses back, or tweak the car design to basically have made up cars. I'm all for the second option myself, I'd love Sega Rally, Outrun 2, Scud Racer etc. on modern consoles, I hope Sega can figure it out.

Hm after some advice, I'm thinking of finally grabbing the Dk dlc for M+R(no ultra challenges), it's worth getting right?

I'm also tempted by Okami and Cadence of Hyrule but I'm waiting for the former to go on sale again(missed it last time) and I'll probably save the latter for the next time I go on a trip

Absolutely worth it. 2 new characters, one with a unique weapon mechanic. If you liked the main game, you'll like the DLC just as much.

Three stealth releases of Dispatch Games in Europe.

Soldam, Penguin Wars and Psyvariar Delta finally are on the eShop.

Woo, that God Eater 3 demo is pretty difficult to look at, at least in handheld mode. Freedom Wars on Vita was crisper then this.

I don't know the actual answer but the phone version has (ignorable) MTX; potentially the Switch version has cut those out in favor of just giving you…whatever the MTX was for.

MS? didn't paradox buy them?

Well damn, you're right - that totally slipped me by. Although it looks like the Shadowrun license still belongs to MS? Not sure if the acquisition included what has generally been a very confusing IP in terms of video game ownership...

EDIT: Yeah, I think MS owns the Shadowrun IP for video games, HBS just became the license owners to create the games. So it would still require MS to sign off on a port, by the look of things.

Rime is a game you gotta beat before making judgment.

Next penelope is dirt cheap on sale. Get it! Great multiplayer, ok single player

The original was extremely grindy if you wanted to do everything due to the presence of microtransactions, but this version was completely rebalanced to account for them being taken out. The video review I posted earlier goes into more detail, but the reviewer mentions how he got to level 100 in like half of the time it took him to get to 30 on the mobile version.

They seem to tease further free content too, but I'm not sure if it's actually new content oe just the same expansion the mobile version received originally.

Went ahead and deleted DQB2 demo shortly after getting to the island, seen all I need to see to know its a day 1 (I loved the first game), performance seems fine portable, font is tiny tho.

Dandy Dungeon is great, never knew anything about it before I got it. Even with the 32% pre-order discount it seemed like a lot, but having played a couple hours it is a blast. Very charming dialogue and music. Seems like it may get repetitive after some time, but the story is enough to keep me going.

HATE when companies don't take handheld font readability into account. The tutorial popups were insane.
