I just find it really hard to believe that Nintendo would tweet out a direct notice 10 hours before the event right when their traditionally largest market is going to sleep before a work day. It just doesn't make sense to me.

It would be 1PM in Japan and still only 9PM on the west coast US which is where NoA operates. It's indeed weird but it is Nintendo lol.
Kelios said a source told him it would be announced 52 minutes from now, but to take that with a grain of salt. Shadowdrop is still very possible.
The best thing to do right now for Nintendo fans on the East Coast like me is to go to bed. Worst case scenario, we get a good night's sleep for work tomorrow and if we're lucky, we wake up to an announcement for a Direct in the morning.

I understand that, but it still doesn't make sense - if they were going to announce it ahead of time, why wouldn't they do it a few hours earlier to ensure everyone in every time zone will have a chance to see the notice prior to the actual direct.

The unfortunate part of shadow drop mini's is everyone can fast forward through the direct to see everything in a few seconds. Kills the hype!

I mean what's the difference between tweeting it out and shadowdropping it at that point? At least if they tweet it there's a chance people will know beforehand and it may boost views.
