Yes.Should I get Metroid samus returns? I haven't touched my 3ds in a good long while and can get a good my Nintendo discount for it and want to play more of the Metroid games.
I have played the original Metroid last year.

With my Nintendo you can spend gold coins on select game discounts for the 3ds. They rotate them out every month and the one for samus returns ends next month p
Ah! I see, thank you! If I weren't so into physical games I would make real use of it. For digital only title it could be cool though!
I did it. I FINALLY finished MPT. Just wrapped up Corruption—what a fantastic game. They made so many smart QoL additions, making it accessible and still maintaining that classic Metroid feel.
Overall ranking: MP1=MP3>MP2
Throwback Galaxy in Galaxy 2 spoiled us.I'll be honest-I wish Mario 64 got a graphical overhaul in the collection, as the game looks dated these days.
Look at the trees, they're just 2D sprites.

I played it on Wii, I imagine it's the exact same experience on Wii U.I'm very close to considering getting the prime trilogy on Wii U. Waiting for the inevitable switch version has been torture. May just get it on Wii U as I really want to play them.
Do we know if Nate was just speculating that Mario 64 was like the Turok remasters? A full-on remake would be amazing

The original Metroid Prime is one of my favorite games ever, and I was surprised how good Corruption is. It's more cinematic, and it has more of a focus on story with actual voice acting. The world is segmented as opposed to being one (sort of) continuous open world like the original, but it doesn't detract from the experience. They also gave Samus' gunship a lot of really cool upgrades.
Echoes is by far and away my least favorite. It's still good, but it's just so punishing. Just existing in the dark world drains your life, and traversal is just so counterintuitive.
Every Prime game ends with a sort of relic hunt, I feel like Corruption is the most smart about it. The relic hunt in Echoes is just mean.
I thought the same thing. In 2018. Honestly, that's why I held off playing it. I'd say go ahead and start it up on Wii U. You'll probably at least finish the first one by the time the HD version comes out (if it even exists).I just know that I'm gonna get it on Wii U, then they'll announce it for switch for early next year or something during the next direct.
Curious to know why. I've consistently seen MP2 ranked as the lowest and I always hear complaints about getting lost in its maze-like worlds, that it's too long or feels too difficult.

Atlus needs to stop being weird with Persona and just bring it to Switch. Same with SMT should go to other systems like PlayStation.
I'd say they're overexaggerating, yes. They're both good games, but I like 2 a lot more than 3. 2 is harder, and can be more punishing, yes, but I don't think it's a negative. The only thing I will say is that the dark world CAN be a bit obnoxious at first, but it gets better pretty quickly. It's still a bit on the empty and oppressive side, but overall I liked it.Curious to know why. I've never played MP2 or MP3. 3 is often celebrated for it's environments and characters, mainly everything it contributed to the lore. I've always been excited to play it because of that.
But I've been long dreading Metroid Prime 2 due it's reputation. Would be nice to hear a more positive opinion.
Are people overexaggerating their complaints?

Ah, fair enough. I haven't kept up with every insider post, I suppose.Thank you once again for this intel. I find this kind of stuff extremely fascinating. Glad to hear devs have the choice to return or not.
Interesting analysis. I've said it plenty of times, but I have it on very good authority that Zelda was never happening this year, that was word I got at the end of last year. There's absolutely no way it's done. Now whether it'll show up in the Direct or not, who's to say.

Nate's probably on the money with that.
It's important to remember, this collection is a side project. EPD Tokyo/1 Up Studio are hard at work on a new game besides this, of course.
Oooh, nice! I'm jealous, and I'm interested to see what you think about it having never played it before.Aye, that's what I'd figured. This isn't "basically your Odyssey sequel for the time being." It's a sweet, sweet package that ain't gonna FFVII Remake itself. I'm stoked to play 64 for the first time, though, so I realize I'm fairly lucky here.

And my opinion on 3 is more negative than most, but I'll respond to that quote with my thoughts:
"I was surprised how good Corruption is. It's more cinematic, and it has more of a focus on story with actual voice acting."
It does have these things, but I feel like they mostly just get in the way of a good Metroid experience and don't really fit the game all that much. The story and VA weren't BAD, but whenever you'd get a really cinematic sequence or a bit with a lot of VA it just didn't really feel like Metroid anymore, IMO.
"The world is segmented as opposed to being one (sort of) continuous open world like the original, but it doesn't detract from the experience."
I would argue that it does. There's a lot less emphasis on connecting different parts of the worlds together than in Prime 1 and 2, and as a result exploration just didn't feel as good and rewarding. It's sort of like... well, Dark Souls 2's world layout versus Dark Souls 1, to use another franchise. Having different planets was a neat idea, but I feel like one large world that can be better connected works much better and is more cohesive.
" They also gave Samus' gunship a lot of really cool upgrades."
That you almost never use. Nothing worse than going through a tricky puzzle section and getting.... oooh boy, it's a ship missile expansion! Now I can use my ship missiles one more time than before! Which was never!
I realize this sounds overly negative of Prime 3, and I don't mean to be so down on it, I still really like it as a game. I just have it lower than the other two mostly for those exact reasons.
I need to get zero mission on there anyway since the Wii U is the only way I can play that one. May as well. I'm trying to play through all the main Metroid games.
EDIT. Fusion, not zero mission. was getting them mixed up.
Oooh, nice! I'm jealous, and I'm interested to see what you think about it having never played it before.
Also I love your avatar. I need more Expanse in my life.
You're gonna love it. 64 is a magical game that I played as a kid and still do to this day. Camera controls suck though.
These are valid points. The ship was under-utilized and outside of first getting them the upgrades are almost entirely useless (the same can almost be said for the Hypermode abilities, though they get use at the end at least).
I wish you luck on your admirable quest! All the 2D entries are worth playing, and all are pretty varied in what they aim to accomplish as well.

Echoes is good, I'd like to say that up front. I liked it quite a bit. It falls short of the other two.
The dark world is just brutal. I know you have those healing orbs, but I can't tell you how much time I sat there and waited to fully heal before making my way out again. Any amount of time spent doing this (of which I spent quite a bit of time) is time wasted. Metroid games are based on exploration and this one punishes you for doing so. That is a problem, for sure.
I played all three games without a guide, and according to How Long to Beat, Echoes is about 17 hours. It took me 26 according to the game clock. It took me 14 to finish Corruption and that's about in line with How Long to Beat.
Echoes does a lot of things right, I love the lore, I love the setting, I love more Metroid frankly—but it's the weakest of the three with some serious traversal issues. Also, I mentioned it before, but Echoes' relic hunt is the hardest in the series and not in a good way.
Oh man, if there's not a Direct this time there's going to be some very angry Nintendo fans.
SM64 still slaps to this day, baby!Exactly. It's meant to be a celebration of Mario's past. The next big game will come next year, methinks. Should be pretty far along.
You're gonna enjoy the shit out of 64, my friend. It's very dated, but it was a life changing game for me.
