Ah! I see, thank you! If I weren't so into physical games I would make real use of it. For digital only title it could be cool though!

I'm half digital with my 3ds. If it's a good deal through my Nintendo like the case with Samus returns then I'll take it. Plus I did get a bigger sd card for it a while back and want to not waste it.

I did it. I FINALLY finished MPT. Just wrapped up Corruption—what a fantastic game. They made so many smart QoL additions, making it accessible and still maintaining that classic Metroid feel.

Overall ranking: MP1=MP3>MP2

I'll be honest-I wish Mario 64 got a graphical overhaul in the collection, as the game looks dated these days.

Look at the trees, they're just 2D sprites.

I'm very close to considering getting the prime trilogy on Wii U. Waiting for the inevitable switch version has been torture. May just get it on Wii U as I really want to play them.

Throwback Galaxy in Galaxy 2 spoiled us.

If SM64 got a full blown graphical overhaul like Crash or Spyro, I feel that it could easily be sold alone at $60. A collection makes me think they are going to do the bare minimum.

I hope so too. Or maybe just upres visuals. Feels like Galaxy and SS would be fine with a really low amount of work, so it would be nice if they polish M64 with that. If it's just a collection without any fix then i don't want it. But i feel like they will atleast upgrade the resolution and that will do it.

Do we know if Nate was just speculating that Mario 64 was like the Turok remasters? A full-on remake would be amazing

I played it on Wii, I imagine it's the exact same experience on Wii U.

The original Metroid Prime is one of my favorite games ever, and I was surprised how good Corruption is. It's more cinematic, and it has more of a focus on story with actual voice acting. The world is segmented as opposed to being one (sort of) continuous open world like the original, but it doesn't detract from the experience. They also gave Samus' gunship a lot of really cool upgrades.

Echoes is by far and away my least favorite. It's still good, but it's just so punishing. Just existing in the dark world drains your life, and traversal is just so counterintuitive.

Every Prime game ends with a sort of relic hunt, I feel like Corruption is the most smart about it. The relic hunt in Echoes is just mean.

I was always under the impression he was speculating based on the idea that it was a collection of games. A full remake of Mario 64 with remasters of Sunshine and Galaxy just seems too generous a package for Nintendo.

If Nintendo is preparing a Pikmin 3 Deluxe for Switch then it is my opinion that it should be a trilogy release instead. Pikmin 3 sold around a million copies on Wii U which, in the scheme of things is not good. Not even for Wii U. Pikmin is not a very popular franchise, let's be honest. However a trilogy of Pikmin 3 on one cart would be a more enticing offer and is something I, who have never played a Pikmin game before would be much more interested in buying. I don't really feel a lot of people will want to pay $60 for Pikmin 3 on Switch if they didn't have much interest all those years ago on Wii U. Nintendo's two choices are:

-Pikmin 3: Deluxe $30-40
-Pikmin Trilogy $60

Those feel like the only two realistic choices to me. I was always curious to play these games but I don't want to bother at a full $60 pricetag for the third entry in the series. Just my 2 cents.

I thought the same thing. In 2018. Honestly, that's why I held off playing it. I'd say go ahead and start it up on Wii U. You'll probably at least finish the first one by the time the HD version comes out (if it even exists).

I'd rank the Prime games 2>1>3 personally
Curious to know why. I've consistently seen MP2 ranked as the lowest and I always hear complaints about getting lost in its maze-like worlds, that it's too long or feels too difficult.

I've never played MP2 or MP3. 3 is often celebrated for it's environments and characters, mainly everything it contributed to the lore. I've always been excited to play it because of that.

But I've been long dreading Metroid Prime 2 due it's reputation. Would be nice to hear a more positive opinion.

Are people overexaggerating their complaints?

**Edit This post right here is basically everything I've been hearing about MP3 v MP2 for the last 10 years:

If you get a graphical overhaul, you'll get a price overhaul too. Nintendo never sell something like Mario 64 remake for such low price, it would be regular $60 game.

Best you can hope for that they're using DS version of the game as the base. Trees are not single polygon there.

I need to get zero mission on there anyway since the Wii U is the only way I can play that one. May as well. I'm trying to play through all the main Metroid games.

EDIT. Fusion, not zero mission. was getting them mixed up.

Atlus needs to stop being weird with Persona and just bring it to Switch. Same with SMT should go to other systems like PlayStation.

They honestly should also port their back catalogue to the switch.

Honestly I'm kind of surprised by Sega being so lenient when it comes to Atlus porting games. You would think Sega would push Atlus to port more games, but here we are.

Edit: The fact it took them that long to port Persona 4 Golden to PC off a dead system is crazy.

I'd say they're overexaggerating, yes. They're both good games, but I like 2 a lot more than 3. 2 is harder, and can be more punishing, yes, but I don't think it's a negative. The only thing I will say is that the dark world CAN be a bit obnoxious at first, but it gets better pretty quickly. It's still a bit on the empty and oppressive side, but overall I liked it.

And my opinion on 3 is more negative than most, but I'll respond to that quote with my thoughts:

"I was surprised how good Corruption is. It's more cinematic, and it has more of a focus on story with actual voice acting."

It does have these things, but I feel like they mostly just get in the way of a good Metroid experience and don't really fit the game all that much. The story and VA weren't BAD, but whenever you'd get a really cinematic sequence or a bit with a lot of VA it just didn't really feel like Metroid anymore, IMO.

"The world is segmented as opposed to being one (sort of) continuous open world like the original, but it doesn't detract from the experience."

I would argue that it does. There's a lot less emphasis on connecting different parts of the worlds together than in Prime 1 and 2, and as a result exploration just didn't feel as good and rewarding. It's sort of like... well, Dark Souls 2's world layout versus Dark Souls 1, to use another franchise. Having different planets was a neat idea, but I feel like one large world that can be better connected works much better and is more cohesive.

" They also gave Samus' gunship a lot of really cool upgrades."

That you almost never use. Nothing worse than going through a tricky puzzle section and getting.... oooh boy, it's a ship missile expansion! Now I can use my ship missiles one more time than before! Which was never!

I realize this sounds overly negative of Prime 3, and I don't mean to be so down on it, I still really like it as a game. I just have it lower than the other two mostly for those exact reasons.

Thank you once again for this intel. I find this kind of stuff extremely fascinating. Glad to hear devs have the choice to return or not.

Interesting analysis. I've said it plenty of times, but I have it on very good authority that Zelda was never happening this year, that was word I got at the end of last year. There's absolutely no way it's done. Now whether it'll show up in the Direct or not, who's to say.
Ah, fair enough. I haven't kept up with every insider post, I suppose.

Addressing each point:

Idk how Echoes can be called maze-like really. The map layout is actually pretty linear. Prime 1 has a comparatively less linear map. Echoes entire world is basically one hub area with 3 areas around it, like a circle. I can get getting lost on a first play through, but that isn't unique to 2 at all.

Length is maybe true, but I find it not that much longer than Prime 1. Corruption is a bit shorter but that's in large part due to the lack of a fetch quest (which is time consuming on the first 2 games on your first play through). Granted there are 3 mini fetch quests in addition but those are really not that bad or difficult to do.

Echoes is the hardest, undoubtedly. If you play on Trilogy then one boss in particular becomes pretty easy though.

3 is generally well received but like every Metroid it has detractors. Personally the dialogue never bothered me and I enjoyed how it expanded the universe. But minimalists aren't a fan of the dialogue for example.

I prefer 2 to the others but each has unique strengths that shouldn't be discounted.

Nate's probably on the money with that.

It's important to remember, this collection is a side project. EPD Tokyo/1 Up Studio are hard at work on a new game besides this, of course.

Aye, that's what I'd figured. This isn't "basically your Odyssey sequel for the time being." It's a sweet, sweet package that ain't gonna FFVII Remake itself. I'm stoked to play 64 for the first time, though, so I realize I'm fairly lucky here.

These are valid points. The ship was under-utilized and outside of first getting them the upgrades are almost entirely useless (the same can almost be said for the Hypermode abilities, though they get use at the end at least).

I need to get zero mission on there anyway since the Wii U is the only way I can play that one. May as well. I'm trying to play through all the main Metroid games.

I wish you luck on your admirable quest! All the 2D entries are worth playing, and all are pretty varied in what they aim to accomplish as well.

Playing through all the Metroid is something I want to do this year. Yeah I think I'll go ahead and get the prime trilogy on Wii U. At least with a switch version I'll have an excuse to replay them. Super Metroid I have on switch online and my snes classic.

Zippo's 2D Metroid rumors a while back got me interested in playing them. I played the original Metroid last year.

For me, MP2 has the most interesting story and world-building, with stuff like the Ing, Luminoth, and Light/Dark Aether. It's just a much more creative and interesting setting than the other games for me.

It can get difficult, but tbh I don't think the dark world is that bad, since there are a lot of healing light bubbles you can stay in.

Exactly. It's meant to be a celebration of Mario's past. The next big game will come next year, methinks. Should be pretty far along.

You're gonna enjoy the shit out of 64, my friend. It's very dated, but it was a life changing game for me.

Echoes is good, I'd like to say that up front. I liked it quite a bit. It falls short of the other two.

The dark world is just brutal. I know you have those healing orbs, but I can't tell you how much time I sat there and waited to fully heal before making my way out again. Any amount of time spent doing this (of which I spent quite a bit of time) is time wasted. Metroid games are based on exploration and this one punishes you for doing so. That is a problem, for sure.

I played all three games without a guide, and according to How Long to Beat, Echoes is about 17 hours. It took me 26 according to the game clock. It took me 14 to finish Corruption and that's about in line with How Long to Beat.

Echoes does a lot of things right, I love the lore, I love the setting, I love more Metroid frankly—but it's the weakest of the three with some serious traversal issues. Also, I mentioned it before, but Echoes' relic hunt is the hardest in the series and not in a good way.

I hope to give the, all a fair shot though I'm starting with the 2D ones and then the prime trilogy, and considering I like to give every game a fair shot, I'll be trying other m as well.

My copy of Ring Fit came in about two weeks ago and this thing is just amazing. My doc recently advised me to avoid weightlifting which up until now was my main driver for working out. I've since redirected my focus on body weight exercises and the like, and the release could not have come at a better time.

I know there's 20 worlds and I'm only on world 4 but I really hope they're going to pump out either more levels as DLC or a sequel/new game that uses the Ring Con. Doing a bit of crossover content with Zelda would be dreamy. I'm guessing if they did have more to announce they wouldn't do it at a Direct tho.

Oh man, if there's not a Direct this time there's going to be some very angry Nintendo fans.

What's new? Feels like we've been cycling through anger and insecurity for almost a year haha
