WiiU will be the star of this direct, Nintendo had a few unreleased games and will show them to those still owning the console.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm sure there are very serious problems internally at Nintendo right now if, years after almost completely shutting down development for 3DS and Wii U "so they could have a unified pipeline", they STILL cannot reliably release a game a month without resorting to countless direct ports and publishing 3rd party exclusives (they even gave Xeno2 DLC a physical release to pretend they had something to release in September!). Like, where we used to have around 2 games a month (one per platform) now we barely have one, and pray it's not a direct port of something you've already played before, and the absolute radio silence leading up to this Direct doesn't help much.

Are we expeting a repeat of the 1-2 Combo Animal Crossing+Pokemon like 3DS? (with really close launch dates).

I'd hope for Fire emblem really early (like march-april) then AC in May-June - Luigi's Mansion in Juli-Aug so I can play all of those games before a real Pokemon drops and I forget about every other game.

Too soon for both Luigi's Mansion and Animal Crossing.

At least one of these two (if not both) is going to be a big fall release alongside Pokémon gen 8, and i can see AC getting the big booth at E3 (although some people think the game doesn't speak to that audience)

A significant portion of Nintendo's 3DS releases were ports or 3rd Party pickups. It's always been a significant part of their portable libraries.

Midgar, With Love
Truncated list of predictions from the other thread:

*Direct starts. Kit Harington from Game of Thrones appears. He says Nintendo has seven kingdoms' worth of announcements today.

*Mario & Luigi: Seven Kingdoms is announced. Navigate through war-torn Westeros evading the bloodthirsty Bowser Boltons. You can have either Varys or Baelish join you in combat. Out this summer.

*Dragon Quest XI S. The new content is shown. Akira Toriyama's hand-drawn Ygritte and Tormund are shown. They beg the hero to help them conquer a frozen land beyond an impenetrable wall. June 30th.

*Pokemon time. Not Gen 8 though. It's a spin-off. Pokémon x Essos. Command a Dothraki horde and catch Pokémon along the way. Free enslaved Pokémon from Volantis and Meereen. Your rival in this game has "over 100 wives" and "has brutally slaughtered thousands of civilians." No release date given.

*One more Pokémon announcement. Free software out today. Fly a Charizard over the Narrow Sea. But be careful because three full-grown Dragonites will try to kill you.

*Kit Harington on screen again. He has drawn his sword, Longclaw. But we don't know why yet.

*Fire Emblem Three Houses time. Reggie narrates. He says the development team was having major troubles. They rebooted the story concept. Take control of House Stark, House Lannister, or House Targaryen. Wage wars in classic Fire Emblem battles to compete for the Iron Throne. There are 27 dragon waifu... things. May 19th.

*Yoshi. All they show today is the Night King in wooly form. Weird tease.

*Kit Harington is back. Thanks us for watching. "Oh yeah, one last announcement." He lifts Longclaw over a table. A Nintendo 3DS is on the table. He slashes it to ribbons and Ghost eats what's left of it. "Thank you for eight incredible years with 3DS. But now it is dead. You're welcome, Era."

Weird Direct.

Does anyone expect any Operating System / stupid mobile phone app / New Switch hardware announcements today or is it more than likely software announcements and updates only?

I wonder if they going to announce a switch mini, that means you don't can use any motion beside gyro functions. I would expect a dpad, because you can't play sideway. Isn't mario party with motion required?

This is some Fosko level sensationalizing.

Even if that was the case, they still managed to release a couple of games a month and now they're still struggling at just one with constant delays into oblivion like we're still in the fist half year of a console life. It's not dramatic, it's just... apathy from my side. Like they're just back to their worst years on the Wii and there's absolutely nothing we can do about it except waiting.

Hopefully without the weird emulator artifacts around transparent textures :)

One of the rumors (I think from Easy Allies?) is that Retro did the trilogy port themselves as a way to basically prove they could take on MP4 after they found out it wasn't going so hot.

So if that's true I don't think we need to worry about the visuals quality.

I wouldn't expect these. HW announcements are better suited to second half of the year to prevent buyer's remorse for Christmas purchases. Nintendo is also downplaying Switch firmware features. I guess mobile app stuff, especially for particular games, is more likely.

EDIT: Well, that's specifically for new Switch model. Colors, bundles and, to a lesser degree, peripherals are somewhat more reasonable.

Nintendo releases the most exclusives by far. WHAT are you talking about?

2 games have been delayed. I guess 3 if you want to count Metroid Prime 4 but it technically never had a release date or window.

This is odd timing to proclaim gloom and doom, maybe wait until the Direct disappoints you.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo has some internal problems at all. Their president died and they've transitioned through two in a short time. Planned transitions which went smoothly but that still leaves a scar. That are putting out quality product regardless
