This is so laughable. You should get out onto a park, smell the grasses and play some sport. This I can guarantee you that it will prolong your life instead of using that time to sit and watch someone sit and play a game for a long period of time.
What's more laughable, you telling people to not watch sports or you coming to a game forum to tell people to go outside?

The classic "you should go enjoy the stuff I enjoy" post.

How about you go to the park if that's what you like, and this person can relax and watch some high level gaming?

Me? I just ate some eggs while watching tsm_viss go ballistic on a lobby in Apex. Now I'm gonna go shoot some hoops with my son, and then bike with my daughter, to relax after I'll probably play some apex or watch some. See, sometimes it's a 'both' situation.

Sounds to me you not only have your priorities (being a Father) you also have your own time. That's a great way to live. Sometimes it is a good idea to take a break on forums, way too many like to judge others and be critical.

How's it different?

Maybe make an argument instead of pointing a meme, bro.

When Ninja is playing, you are watching a dude play a training/pick-up game with randoms. No loser penalties, no prize pool, no stakes. He plays 6h+ nonstop, literally nothing matters (including the small tournaments that he plays in). Win or lose the same Fortnite matches will continue forever.

When you are watching the NBA game, you are watching many people compete for money/career, survival in the competition and fame. If you follow one team, you have like 2h of airtime in one week.

The argument can boil down to literally "you are watching something on the screen, how is it different", and then there is no difference in the content preparations, production value, importance, stakes, continuity.

Both are quite unproductive activities, but come on, watching your NBA team is not the same as watching your daily streamer. If you value his personality or skills more than the sports broadcast, then hurray, enjoy superior content for you.

Some may just enjoy the sport of the game and maybe learn some of his tricks to help you play better. It is still just entertainment and lets' be honest here, how many NBA or other sports athletes play 100% every game. They sign a guaranteed contract where it doesn't matter if they have some shitty games or not. They can pour it all on in the playoffs and nobody remembers the regular season. That's why Golf to me is a better sport, they play like crap and they miss the cut.

I think you missed the argument.

If you boil it down to "It is still just entertainment", then who gives a shit if you are watching NBA, Ninja, Pewdiepie, Avengers or Simpsons.

You have a contract for 2 years in NBA, and after that, you will be reevaluated based on the performance. The regular season NBA players get 30 minutes of gametime, 82 times a year (+ more in case of playoffs). Most NBA players will get like 40h/year to showcase their performance, Ninja does it in a week. However, this entire concept of measuring athletes vs streamers performance is not the point of the argument.

The point is that sports broadcasts and daily streamers are vastly different types of entertainment, and either all entertainment is the same shit, or there are real differences between NBA broadcasts and Ninja streaming Fortnite.

Funny its 2019 and people have still these comments about streaming. And feel the need also to judge and decide what people need to like or do.

Why are they vastly different? Each practices, each has earned their ranking, each has an audience. is Snooker not a sport are they not an athlete? What about a race car driver? Talent is talent no matter how much you want to marginalize it. There are also many contacts signed before they even play a game and most of those contracts are guaranteed. I've seen it multiple times, singing bonuses and many of those athlete don't even pan out.

Funny its 2019 and people have still these comments about streaming. And feel the need also to judge and decide what people need to like or do.

Exactly. They just see it as enterainment and no real skill.

Your conclusions: "It is still just entertainment" and "Talent is Talent"

I will ask you the simple questions based on your understanding.

Pie Eating, Singing Acting, Writing, Basketball and Streaming Fortnite. All of these things require talent (and usually reward people based on talent).
Is America Got Talent, Pie Eating Content, Avengers Movie, Theater Play, NBA and Ninja streaming session the same thing?

Do you stand-by your conclusions that all of those activities are the same (and people watch them for exactly the same reasons) because it is still an entertainment and it requires talent.

Also, your understand of contracts is lacking. Contract aren't given to random people, there are dedicated scouts who evaluate potential players based on their training/amateur/college performance and present them with the fitting (or undervalued) offer.

I think that you are seeing red because you think that different means inferior. There is a world where different entertainment attracts different kind of viewers and there is no need to judge anyone for their preferences.

It is cheap and pointless to make this generalizations without responding to the actual discussion, just throwing this comment.
Do you support the previous conclusion that NBA Broadcast = Ninja Streaming because talent is talent and it is all just entertainment.

Why are you trying to marginalize Ninja's success while trying to defend many athletes that are overpaid? I understand how scouting works but as I said not all of those deals have panned out have they? Many of them failed to live up to their contracts. Tom Brady isn't even the top 20 paid quarterbacks, so a lot of this doesn't really come down to getting paid for performance.

As for comparing NBA broadcast to Ninja playing Fortnite? Yes they are comparable because each will pay to watch for the entertainment value. The person at home most often doesn't care about the hours they spend practicing on and off the basketball court, they just view it as entertainment.

I think the vast difference you are arguing over is the physical attributes as a sport versus entertainment (Ninja) but I have a question for you. Don't coaches also get Superbowl rings? Why if they are not athletes on the field and is he more entertaining to watch than Ninja?

i think people really underestimate the toll of playing 14 hours a day of video games. Dudes wrists are completely wrecked and will need serious healthcare for them probably by 40

This gets posted so often. Do you seriously not understand that people like watching other people compete at a high level? We've been doing it for centuries. Enjoying watching Ninja (or any other streamer) is no different than watching the NBA on TV.

+ its socially interactive. I cant communicate with say Tiger woods like I can on a stream :) funnily enough I found streaming some 2 years ago and it basically killed my gaming time I find watching streams much more entertaining. I actually "found" ninja when PUBG blew up and he was small (say 1500 viewers) and remember he whined saying like "im the most underrated streamer ever". I never liked fortnite so never rly see him whem he became mr twitch...

Now its followgrubby 6 days a week for last year xD

I don't really have a horse in this race. Ninja can do whatever and I'm sure Twitch can do whatever. It's their platform. It also just kind of seems to me like Twitch defaulted to showing the "Fortnite" section on Ninja's old Twitch URL, which really isn't an "endorsement" of anything.

I might be wrong. Maybe it is a curated list of people to watch, but I somehow doubt it.

As for the porn stuff, I get the feeling it would've also shown up under the default Fortnite section as well and it was only at the top because it's the Internet and people flocked to it.

Dude this is legit awful. I've been starting to stream myself as well and have started primarily on Twitch. Stuff like this is really making me consider moving to Mixer...

There's a way to be professional about it, and then there's this. Putting other streamers on his channel is obviously a blatant cash grab from Twitch trying to get that traffic to stay on their site instead of finding Ninja at Mixer. Which, I understand makes sense for them. But then throw in this porn situation and the fact that Ninja's audience is primarily kids... Yeah, that sucks.

You see if you go to Ninja's old twitch site now (twitch.tv/ninja) Twitch is promoting other fortnite streamers on that page LOL

Which.... has never happened before. Usually streamers who leave just have their VOD's and what not up. Weird that Twitch is actively promoting other competitors on his channel.

Don't really see the issue with Twitch advertising other streamers on a page they know wont be used for the foreseeable future, especially considering they advertised Ninja on other people's streams previously. And that porn thing is just typical bad Twitch moderation, people streaming porn happens quite frequently.

It's weird that his twitch page is still highly viewed so they would advertise their streamers that play the same game as him? You people like to read into things way too much.

If Twitch is this petty about this, couldn't they just delete Ninja channel? They already don't allow any new subs to it, and he is not coming back.

Huh? They don't do that with literally any other streamer. Also, i'd imagine he'll file some type of claim to get his channel completely taken down after this (which they'll have to abide by).

Advertising other streams on HIS channel is absurd. Essentially promoting other businesses. How you don't find that odd is more alarming.

Yeah, this is supremely fucked up. They're leveraging his brand and popularity for their gain. Hope he comes out on top here.

I don't know how he can complain about it. They did the same thing for his New Years bash this past year. They advertised that on every channel on twitch

Whether people want to admit it or not, Twitch is quickly becoming a platform that isn't brand friendly because they choose not to act on things and it could be easily manipulated, resulting in it becoming difficult for sponsors wanting to continue investing its resources in it.

This is the perfect time for Mixer to jump in even more.

That's literally not even the point LOL. It could be the lowest of low streamers. The point is, they're promoting other businesses on top of someone. Ninja is just a name, and it just so happens he's one of the largest.

Like me walking into your store, telling everyone how shitty your store is, and then promoting my shop (while in your store) which is right down the street.

C'mon, what did you expect Twitch to do to his channel? Build a shrine or a hall of fame around it? He took the $ (and good for him) to exclusively go elsewhere. Not offering a viable alternative would be shortsighted as hell and I don't think they "owe" it to him.

Twitch moderation needs to improve, but that porn "recommendation" is peak "internet going to internet."

I just saw the Ninja tweet pop on my feed.

It's actual porn too lmao.
