The universe doesn't have much very exotic locations, most exotic stuff is usually the stuff like moons and martian like landscapes.
I'm part of the "Exclusive Discord" and they will probably announce the normal pre-order campaigns tomorrow. They have scheduled a Development Status AMA.
The closed beta is set for early-mid August. Here we see probably the new previews from the media also.

I missed out on the other preorder they did but after this is out I doubt I will touch much of MWO either way so guess its no biggie

I would be *extremely* happy to eat crow if MW5 becomes somewhat decent, but I just can't see that happening :(

Are there tanks, other vehicles and aircraft as well as ground troops in the game as opponents (and allies) or is it just Mechs?

I'm hoping it's not on EGS, if it is it's a pass from a hardcore fan.
Judging from the youtube footage I just searched for, there are helicopters, tanks, airplanes, and other types of vehicles in addition to regular robots.

One thing I find particularly exciting, is PGI has a ton of mech assets already made for MWO. This will probably be the mechwarrior game with the biggest roster (though perhaps not initially).
I haven't heard anything about clan mechs, but they have been absent from everything I have seen: so guessing pre-invasion setting?
DLC set during the clan invasion could be very fun considering how greatly IS and Clan mechs differ in MWO.

This would be something that actually gets me into VR if they went that route.
This does look great. Now I will pay more attention. Hopefully mouse and keyboard support will be good. I do have a hotas as well all ready to go.
I had no idea this was happening! I played the everliving hell out of MW2 Mercenaries back in the day.
I very much look forward to it but I'm still really sceptical since we've seen nothing of the metagame outside the cockpit yet and we still can't really tell how much mission variety there will be.
I played a bit of Mechwarrior Online back in the day and Keyboard & Mouse worked really well there.
I searched the forums and apparently VR will be patched in, if not at release - as well as the modding tools that will allow it. Apparently because it's made in Unreal Engine 4, the engine automatically has built-in VR support.
Depending on what people say once they see if it's good or not I will jump in if positive.

I guess you need to prepare to die. I think it's only a question of when.
HOTAS & joystick support will also be present, based on what I'm looking at right now.
