To be fair, I would hope they prove they can make a great film first. Heck if this does well, maybe they will get the budget Tamer's requires to be great!

...honestly, I finished tri., I never finished 02. That should tell you something how I feel about 02. While I do wish things could've been better (and the whole "licking" scene with Gennai was... no), I honestly finished it and liked it better than 02's second half. Majority of the first half of 02 was good, though, and a little into the second half things seemed good, then something went wrong with the series plan there. I also heard there was executive meddling there, especially on the last stretch of episode, where Vandemon (Myotismon) came back, which was forced on them and entirely screwed up the writing and plans (and probably production, animation wise, for those episodes).
Honestly, besides story issues that started to crop up a bit into tri., I was still really disappointed with the re-casting of the humans on the Japanese side. Though, honestly, it seemed was a decision after Taichi's voice actress, Toshiko Fujita, was unable to come back due to health issues (we were lucky she was able to come back as Dai in Jump Force, but she'd likely recorded it over a period of time and was a more relaxed schedule). She was asked and had to decline due to it and actually asked the staff to keep it a secret (likely both for personal reasons and likely to not worry people).
They probably figured if they couldn't have her come back, it didn't make sense to keep the rest of the cast as a whole. AiM, who'd voiced Mimi, did still come to perform several songs, and an interesting casting decision, though Sora's voice actress was replaced (she'd had to been anyways eventually, given she unexpectedly passed away), they had Piyomon (Biyomon)'s voice actress voice Taichi's mother. In the original, it was Sora's voice actress who did it.
I was about to have an existential crisis, because that did not sound right :D
Honest question: when does it get good? I stopped watching it because I found the main 3 human cast members to be insufferable (though I liked all the Digimon. And Cameramon was my favorite villain in ages).
If you don't like the main cast than I'd drop it.
I was enjoying it from Day 1 because I enjoyed them and the sense of humor. It pretty much stays that way throughout even in the darker moments.
I'd check out the episode with Agumon though for fanservice. Oh and one episode is a pretty cool call back to Our War Game.
I have yet to see Data Squad & App Monsters. However, I think 02 was terrible easily the worst season of Digimon. So Tri leaving them out wasn't exactly a miss.

Leaving them out is not really a problem. The story in Tri feels outright vindictive to them. Like a fanboy was able to write the script and poured all his fan rage upon the characters.
It resulted in the OG characters coming off as the biggest assholes on the planet.
"Oh they're out on a trip!" Would've been a way more tasteful way to do without them
after seeing Konaka's plans for a Tamers continuation, I don't really want one.

I am sorry but other than Ken, who got all the character development focus, the 02 cast are just not that interesting at all, especially Daisuke who does nothing to earn the role of leadership or go through any character growth in course of the show.
Zero two is only decent from the start and end of the Digimon Emperor arc. The rest is just an unfocused mess with plot thread that goes no-where and a final episode that is just straight up terrible fan fiction.

Nah. Fuck Tri for its treatment of the 02 cast. It didn't have to make them the main characters, but it very easily could have given them fine supporting roles.

That Imperialdramon was visually different from theirs so I'm pretty sure they figured it wasn't the one they knew. They never even acted like they legitimately thought The Mysterious Man was Ken.
