Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is firing back at her Republican colleagues after one of them rescinded an invitation to visit a coal mine in Kentucky.

"GOP's getting scared that up close, their constituents will realize I'm fighting harder for their healthcare than their own Reps," she goaded them on Twitter.
Barr had made the invitation to Ocasio-Cortez after the self-described democratic socialist ardently defended her Green New Deal at a congressional hearing against criticisms that the environmental policy goals outlined in the plan represented "elitist" concerns.

Ocasio-Cortez told the congressman she would be "happy" to make the visit, noting that her proposal would include funding coal miners' pensions with the aim of ensuring "a just transition" and investment in jobs.

But Barr rescinded his invitation last week after Ocasio-Cortez got into Twitter tangle with Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, for his criticism of their fellow freshman Illhan Omar's remarks on a completely separate issue — the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
GOP Rep. James Comer offered an alternative reason why his fellow Kentucky Republican, Rep. Andy Barr, might want to rescind his coal mine invite — and it isn't because of Barr's stated rationale that she had gotten into a Twitter spat with another GOP member.

I don't see any upside to bringing Ocasio-Cortez in," Comer said, adding that it's "not likely" that a visit would change her views about coal in part because, he thinks, "she's pretty set in her ways."

Despite his own caution the day before to his GOP colleagues, Comer tweeted Tuesday in response to Ocasio-Cortez's remark, "Lol, my constituents know that your Socialist policies like#MedicareForAll and #GreenNewDeal will not work."

It was the plan all along. Invite then disinvite to look like the tough guy

Go anyway. Barr's district doesn't actually have any coal miners (and he's a moron who feels entitled to his seat and doesn't give a shit about who actually lives there), but nothing stopping her from holding a town hall with his constituents and roasting him.

Pretty much

Dumb question, she can just go couldn't she? Not like they were going to commit to invite in good faith anyway
She just might.

An apology's not likely to happen, though. Corbin Trent, a spokesman for Ocasio-Cortez, told The Courier-Journal, "Luckily, we still have open borders with Kentucky. We don't need Congressman Barr to meet with coal miners and have a town hall, though we'd love his participation if we do."

In the next 6 year's, she is paving her way to be the first women to be president. GOP doesn't realise that right now, she is going to these hard red states and although she is not their representatives, but by showing her face and show that she cares about both Republican voters, she will slowly start to win the rust belt in her favor. I pity the GOP that would have to run against her in the future.

Could you imagine by 2024 when she reached the right age to run for president, all of these red states are going to remember this woman who went in and tried to fight for their jobs and environment. She is paving her way to a eventual landslide for the presidential position as long as she doesn't screw up.

This might be a dumb question but does she need an "invite"? It's a free country...can she just visit the mine anyway?

Her team should have her go anyways and watch the look on their faces.

Mine owners own the GOP, so they would probably refuse to let her come. She could freely visit their community though.

The invite was for a bipartisan event. It was obviously a sham, because Barr thought this Dem congresswoman is as terrified of unfamiliar voters as he is. He's obviously not going to make an appearance in her district.

She probably will go anyway - for the Green New Deal to get momentum (like Medicare 4 all) its backers will have to convince the senators (or their constituents) from 25+ states.

We just need more people like her. Hopefully she sparks something in this area.

It's like watching that chicken scene from Last Action Hero where the kid rides a bike and lands in the bushes.

AoC needs to visit these sites or even hire people who can go into these rust belt states and start informing everyone (even the Hardcore Republican areas) of the New Green Plan and how it will benefit them in the long run as well as new job opportunities. Also inform them that their current representative is currently blocking them from passing the green plan. If your a democrat and you can at least have half of the rust belt in your favor in the long run, you can win any national voting event.
