my thought was why it was so important/the need to swim at 1am?
All in all, it is a unfortunate matter.
She rented the boat at 1pm, and was missing by 4pm. Where'd you get 1am from? They did call off the search overnight and began again this morning.
All right the over night search got me confused. Thanks for clarifying. That does make more sense now. But i was kinda hoping it was 1am too because if she has been missing since 4pm yesterday that makes me feel alot worse than i did because i'm hopeful for a happy outcome.
He was being charged for possession of child porn and was already reportedly severely depressed while going through the legal proceedings. He also had just came off of settling a sexual assault case just a few years before the child porn case. Mark being likely financially ruined and just heavily guilty about everything...I don't think there is any reason to assume foul play here.
At this point, I doubt she's still alive, it's so heartbreaking. Dying at such a young age, in such circumstances, must be horrible. I can't even begin to imagine the kind of trauma her son will now have to deal with for years to come, this is so incredibly sad.
For what it's worth, Piru Lake does have currents in it as it feeds from one end of the river into another on the opposite end. They warn swimmers in the deepest parts might feel some, especially on windy days, they can get pretty strong. I assume that might be the cause.
I'm still just stunned by this. I used to watch Glee a lot especially for her character since she was the best part of the show. Her poor fucking child too. I hope he is doing well after seeing what he did.

That poor kid, this made my heart sink. I can only imagine how horrifying it is for your mom to go missing like that, especially for a kid that young who won't fully understand what's going on. I can only hope they somehow find her alive, though it's nearly impossible at this point.

Press conference was tough to listen too. No new info but it is now considered a recovery mission and not a rescue.

Lake has some current due to being fed into (or feeding into, I forget) a river.
Exhaustion or any other sudden issue (stroke, heart attack, etc) would basically be a death sentence if you're swimming in any depth of water.
Numerous other reasons, but speculation is in bad taste IMO. Just stating that drowning happens to thousands of people a year and it's usually not in some sort of deep ocean / massive waves condition.
While not directly related to this case: Undertow can, and will, fuck you up and kills people pretty regularly.
Bodies of water in California aren't generally warm. Or clear. Mostly all of our lakes are dammed valleys and canyons that fill with melted snow.

So sad to think about.
The sheriff in the video said the spot where the boat was found had alot of plant life under water that could easily lead to entanglements which makes rescue attempts harder as the divers trying to rescue/recover her are dealing with the same issues right now in looking over the suspected area of the disappearance.
This is horrific and tragic in every way possible

Oh that is sad. Yeah I guess I never thought about the plant growth that occurred during the big drought. Looking at satellite photos like half the lake's surface area was exposed and had growing plants and trees.

As a proficient swimmer, I'll say that it's much easier to drown than people think, especially in a body of water with low visibility. You get snagged in a branch, seagrass, or a foot stuck in a submerged crevice/hole and that's it. Always swim with a group and vests in a place like this.
The police believe she's dead. They are just looking to find the body to give her family closure.
Very true but my take is if it is her body, at least her family can finally lay her and be at peace...as opposed to forever be in limbo wondering... sad sad sad..
I hate that they do this. Let the family grieve a bit before they have to announce horrible news to the world
