How about someone define "political" in games because it seems the definition is so broad that merely existing is political and I don't think that's what a significant amount of people are talking about when they say politics in games.

Gambling is a serious problem, and using cartoon imagery to allow old casino games to reach newer, younger audiences should be stopped in its tracks.

I was gonna go with "You have to eliminate the outlier orange pegs and leave only the uniform blue, which promotes conformity"

but that works too

Football Manager?

Self-edit: Actually, in some versions a Brexit policy roll is done, to determine soft/hard/non-brexit, and then you simulate the financial and competitive outcome of denying soccer players work permits.

Considering that for a certain audience, "political" is as broad as "the protagonist is a woman", the current discourse for politics in games needs to range from specific political leanings to merely taking an inclusive stance when providing character creation options.

That's the state of the medium right now

The Deer on Steam

"The Deer" is an educational interactive experience for children. You'll be an ancient Deer during the Pleistocene (Ice Age) epoch and you'll discover everything about this marvelous era.Unfortunately there were no T-Rex during this age since they were already extinct millions of years before.

No one can do anything good by themselves. Being alone will eventually turn anyone into their worst selves, and acting alone can only hurt yourself and the world around you.

I mean it's not exactly deep or anything but it's there.

Ok because I think these types of threads tend to lean on interpretations, which can be decided by individuals rather than actual messages or themes present in games themselves. Gender politics also mostly exist outside of the games.

Fat shaming, which can be considered political, right?
What political discussions around fat shaming have taken place? If a topic has more than one view point is it suddenly political? If so is the word "political" inherently meaningless because it applies to all "things" as broadly as the word "thing"? I feel like a topic isn't political till it becomes politicized.

The entire backstory of the "Southtown Saga" (Art of Fighting series -> Fatal Fury series) is one that gets into various levels of political intrigue. But the most personal level pertaining to our central protagonists (Terry and Andy Bogard) revolves around Geese Howard. In his past, Geese was the Commissioner of South Town, but it was largely just a front to run his underworld enterprise and facilitate other criminal activity. By the time he stepped down as commissioner and instead headed up his own "legitimate" enterprise of Howard Connection, Geese still effectively ran South Town and its police force. And when he finally offed his long time rival, Jeff Bogard, he did without the threat of any legal repercussions whatsoever. Long story short, the only means that Terry, Andy and their friends were able to extract some measure of justice was because they had to take things into their own hands.

Now, if this isn't showing shades of how the police only really serves the interests of capitalism and its proponents (among other things we can unpack here), I don't know what does!
