How is Steamworld Quest? It and Slay the Spire have drawn my interest but I am concerned about too big a time investment being required to get any real meat out of it. I'd like something that I can just sort of pick up and play whenever (think: Rocket League, Picross, etc).
SteamWorld Quest is great and is a good pick-up and play game as a card combat RPG. It's combat system is great and decks are easy to set-up to take advantage of the combo system that rewards you for lining up cards from the same character.

Yeah I think it's a good pick up and play RPG-Lite. The game is pretty much all battles, very little filler outside of deck management.

It's only about 12 hours with a solid NG+. The OST is so great, check it out in YouTube. Makes the game enjoyable to sit back and listen to the OST.

Spire is also excellent but a completely different kind of game. They're really not related at all. spire is basically a board/card game. Quest is a RPG with a story and character progression. It's like a typical DQ or FF turn based RPG where your action selections are "random" . It sounds like it shouldn't work, but it does 100%

Same. The game wasn't even on my radar a week ago, but all of the positive stuff I've read since the sale hit has me on the verge.
Man, I didn't like Dragons Dogma. My biggest problem was a lack of damage numbers. It made it hard to know if you were progressing and getting better. The enemy HP bars would just move down slightly and it's hard to know if THIS setup/class/weapon was better than THAT setup.

I dunno, lots of people love it. It's so cheap, I'd recommend it if it looks interesting.

Steamworld Dig 2 is one of the best platformers and metroidvanias I've ever played. You absolutely should not pass it up.

I just started it again earlier this week after not playing for a year or two and cannot put it down.

I didn't like it and I wanted to. I tried it on PS3, but the image quality was unbearable. When it came out on PC, I bought it day one and played for a while, but it's just kind of bland and obtuse. I have to admit to not liking games that don't clearly explain game systems well, and I feel like Dragon's Dogma was yet another game where nothing really makes sense unless you read a guide.

There was some fun to be had, but I thought it had a poor map system and it wasn't easy to find quest objectives, the quests weren't that interesting, and the pawn system seemed kind of broken in that you could get high-powered allies. I don't know, it's got its fans for sure, but it just never grabbed me. I dropped it after about 5 hours or so.

Anyone else pick up on the trend of the sale price being the "real" price and the base price being inflated so that the sale price seems like a deal that seems to be the norm now. It's not every game out there but it is more and more common. They go on sale like clockwork for the same % off. I understand why they do it, the economics of it and whatnot, and it definitely makes sense with the way the eShop is organized. Was it always this way and I just didn't notice? I guess I just pay more attention to the trends now because of deal tracker sites.

How is Towerfall without multiplayer?

It's great! The single player campaign is quite meaty and there are lots of achievements and hidden worlds to unlock.

FWIW, the first half year of the Switch had virtually no eShop games on sales at all. Now, with many 1000nds of games, the game publishers need sales to get a focus on their games. But as you said, a few publishers now misuse this policy and have the sales price most of the time.

After dancing around the idea and thinking about it too much, I caved and used whatever gold coins I had to get the BOTW Expansion pass. If it ends up going on a sale in the next few weeks, then I'll eat crow.

But the general consensus was that any new BOTW players need to check it out prior to starting it. I also checked out A Hole New World but I need to start finishing more Switch games rather than buying more. The only game I finished was Mario Odyssey and Bury Me, My Love (one run at least). Mario + Rabbids is one of those games I feel like I can only play in short bursts due to its structure. Otherwise, I tend to bounce off it too easily.

Thinking of getting Alliance Alive. But I got Gal Fighters on Switch in the meantime, and I can't seem to unlock Yuki by beating the QOF mode? Is this a bug, and is anyone else experiencing this?
