I realize this isn't a fresh topic, but I am so frustrated that I have to once again send them into Nintendo for repairs. They did waive the repair fee given this is the fourth time that this has happened, but honestly I wish they would just send me a new or even a refurbished pair so I don't have to deal with this again.

Gameboys can literally survive a bomb blast and keep going. Gah.

Anyway, that's it. Just venting.

Be sure to send video to that law firm handling the class action suit. Include all 4 sets for added effect!

Just invest in some third party joycons. Heard some good things about the Nykos. Assume ALL Nintendo joycons are in some way incompetent until that hypothetical Switch Pro comes out

After my third left joycon started drifting I gave up and got a third party joycon and Pro Controller.

Use a Pro controller instead, you are always going to have this problem with the joycons

Yep, planning to get a Pro controller even before all these issues have been mentioned.

I really dont like using Nintendo's whacky unique controls.

I got myself the Pro controller for the WiiU too since I didnt want to use the gamepad. Too bad the Wii didnt have one (or did it?)

Yup, they are absolute shit and I refuse to buy anymore of them.

I've bought a Hori Split Pad Pro so from now on I'm just playing handheld.

Oddly enough after I broke a joycon stick moving I bought a pair of the cheap 30 dollars 3rd party joycons on Amazon and they are still working perfectly lol

Maybe I just got lucky cuz the reviews for them aren't hot, but they so far have lasted as long as my 80 dollar fucking joycons have.

The drift on my first pair of joycon was really bad after a year of use. When I went to buy a new pair of joycons I was conversing with the GameStop manager about this issue. This angel got me to buy a new pair w/ insurance and told me to return my old pair of joycons and he would replace them with another new pair. I got really lucky I bonded With the manager over FF7R. I was originally mad I had to pay $85 for a pair of joycons so I completely understand your frustration.

Fourth set? So you've had four sets get drift or you've had this happen four times to the same set?

I haven't had any issues with the ones they've sent back to me - I've always wondered if they're putting higher quality replacements in or something.

You're patient. I gave up after my second pair. My switch and pro controller is exclusively for first party games on tv.

I miss playing portable but fuck Nintendo. I ain't spending more on that junk hardware or games that I can play elsewhere.

They're not. There have been plenty of reports of people getting back JoyCons from Nintendo and having them drift again. There's a number of factors behind how quickly the JoyCons start drifting, and it seems that one of the biggest ones is just plain old luck.

the ones I sent in for repair exactly one year ago are already drifting again

it made Super Mario 64 more challenging than usual

As soon as mine started to drift (my playtime on Switch is not even much) and I saw how expensive is a new set and how common its the problem, and Nintendo don't give a shit, I said fuck you, I am not spending on another shit, I bought a 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ and worth every penny so far.

I feel very lucky. I really don't get how I'm so lucky, in fact. I've only had one set of joycons, and I mostly play in handheld. I've played 400 hours of Animal Crossing, 100+ of Smash, 80 or something of Stardew, and quite a bit of time in taiko no tatsujin, diablo, hollow knight, fire emblem warriors, and ultimate alliance. It's only a matter of time before it happens to me, right?

I use a Pro Controller on damn near every game, but did take the joycons for a spin with Mario Galaxy and the drift was front and center. Made doing anything real annoying and I went back to the Pro Controller. These were my launch joycons that came with the system.

Maybe I should look into having them replaced, but eh...I never use the bloody things anyway.

Joycons sticks are weak AF and Nintendo's behaviour around the matter is inexcusable, but in my experience I've found that spraying WD-40 (the "specialist" kind) in them solves the drifting issue for an indefinite amount of time (6+ months and counting) and I've done this to two pairs of drifting Joycons.
Just putting this out there for the peeps that gave up on a fix, you should try that before you give up.

How many hours of play on them honestly? That's terrible luck I've seen a lot of people with drift. Is there a certain number of hours before it happens roughly? Mine all work fine even on my launch switch so that's why I'm asking although I mostly use the pro controller the joycons are too small for me most of the time.

Had one pair repaired twice and my other set repaired once. That pair is drifting again. It makes me not want to play the Switch tbh. I'm just accelerating the deterioration ever time I do. Nintendo fixes them for free here in the US, but it's still a headache.

I'm not spending another nickel on a Pro controller or new set of joy cons until I see some resolution on this matter.

Shame, too. The Switch is a great gaming device when everything works properly.

I've had over 6 sets of joy-cons a (repaired and stuff) and they all started to drift. While I like the joycons, this issue is straight up awful

But the op itself makes it seem like they are talking about having had one set repaired 4 times. hence the confusion.

To clarify, we've repaired one set of joy-cons twice and after the third time they failed, we bought a brand new set. So technically 2 sets I suppose.

About every 9 or 10 months of moderate play.

My new pair of (piss yellow "neon") joycons has yet to drift after I got my olive tree which is absorbing all the air dust. The tree comes with plenty of oxygen

I think it's all the Himalayan rock salts that are disrupting the chakra flows from the Joycons.

i just hope that whenever they release their rumored switch pro they actually fix this issue, and go back and quietly update the SKU for the base model too.

they lazily released the switch lite that still has drift. they knew there was a problem with the base model but released a newer version with the same flaw. incomptent/lazy, whatever you want to call it doesn't matter, the bottom line is there's a big problem that affects a lot of customers and they haven't fixed it.

I don't think we can call Nintendo "lazy". I think the whole issue has shown that Nintendo is more interested — most likely due to financial reasons — to not fix the joy con analog stick design. It's probably better for them to just absorb the complaints and keep producing the current design.

Recently bought Ring Fit and the leg strap can push the analog stick if you are bot super careful
.
What a shitty design when those sticks are already prone to drifting.

I don't know if is the Same thing, but mine was drifting, first set that came with the console, I stopped playing switch, then other day my wife wanted to play Pokémon I just see what happens I updated and calibrated, both joycons are good since then, no problems at all, 6 months since I did, and since it's working I'm playing switch everyday

I'm still rocking my day one joycon, but thankfully they don't have the drift yet. It still sucks to see Nintendo have such a dip in their controller build quality.

Honestly, I just decided that the best way forward is to just keep the pair you have and deal with the bullshit. Not worth spending $80 a pop on defective garbage.
