My dog just died

Cardiac arrest after complications after surgery. Didn't even get to say goodbye. $10,000 and I didn't even get to see him before he died.


he didn't even die from the surgery itself. He was getting his gallbladder removed. The surgery was fine and he was fine for most of the day after but apparently his Trachea was torn most likely from incubation from the surgery. Idk. They're going to do an autopsy I guess.

his name was Rocky. He was a half beagle, half English bulldog. 12 years old.

I'm sorry. My dog died a few weeks after what was supposedly a life saving surgery too. The pain is unbareable for the first few days. Stay strong, OP.

I'm sorry fam :( My huskey is approaching that age bracket and I'm trying my best to prepare for his death but all I know is that I'll just be crying non-stop.

I'm so sorry for your loss, OP, losing a pet is disheartening. Even if you didn't get to say goodbye, I'm sure he knew how much you loved him going by the way you talk about him.

Rocky was my childhood dog's name. All Rocky dogs have a special place for me. I'm so sorry for your loss. I was lucky enough to have a feeling the doctor would put him down when my parents took him to the vet, so I wrote a note to him the night before to try and understand how I was feeling.* I can't imagine having a successful surgery only for this to happen. I hope you find the proper time to process this in whatever way you can. =\

*I just found that note. It was actually addressed to a dog I never got to say goodbye to and telling him about Rocky and what he came to mean to me. It's not the time or place but I really needed to read some of the things I wrote. 10 years younger me had some hubris that maybe wasn't earned, but was definitely prescient of my.depression.

I'm happy at least these last 7 months my family and I spent more time with him than usual due to WFH. I guess that's one positive from this fucking pandemic.

I'm sorry. I know you're sad right now, but I hope the pain goes away soon and you can remember the fond memories and love you and Rocky had the last 12 years. You'll be okay, and at least you know you did all you could for you Dog. You loved him tons and he knew that, and he love you unconditionally as well.

mine are 6 and 7 years old and I'm dreading the day I will have to say goodbye. I hope I get to say goodbye as I can't even imagine how you must feel having that taken away from you!

I understand how it feels to not get to say goodbye.

My half beagle, half terrier got hit by a car while I was in the hospital, because some idiot left the door open. I just got the call that they found her. She was just gone and I had to deal with it then and there with no closure. She would never go outside without my permission when I was there, I feel like she was looking for me when made it hurt more. Her name was Lucia.

I don't really have any magical bullshit to say to you. Losing a loved one is rough.

I'm so sorry you lost your doggie like that. Abrupt loss is the toughest to deal with, and there's no words that could make it easier. I'm glad you got to spend twelve years with a companion you clearly cared deeply for.

Sorry, losing a pet can be devastating. I remember when I lost my boxer, he got me through so many tough times a a teenager. It broke my heart. I remember the shittiest times of my life and coming home and that dog was just there for me to keep me company. As an adult now I have 2 other dogs that do the same. There's a special bond between a dog and it's owner and it's ok to grieve over your loss.

My cat died from a heart attack after tooth removal surgery recently so I know how you feel. I am truly sorry for your loss.

We've lost 2 dogs in the last 2 weeks, it's not easy to deal with.
