Keen to see how they plan out a schedule with a new Paper Mario, SM3DW Deluxe + 3-4 Mario remasters/HD remakes/ports.

Seems a little excessive unless I'm missing something? Although I would not complain to see these older games come to Switch, would it not make the second half of 2020 a bit too Mario heavy?

Hoping Mario 64 and Sunshine (and Galaxy 1/2 if possible) get the remaster treatment.

Man this news is overwhelming, I've very much wanted remasters of those games but didn't expect any to be remastered other than maybe Galaxy 1/2 far down the line. I'll finally play Mario 64 and Galaxy 2 for the first time!

I think it's really unlikely the classic 3D games aren't bundled together.

Probably something like:

September: 3D World Deluxe
October: Paper Mario
November: Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Sunshine better have analog trigger functionality with GameCube adapters or else don't even bother remastering it.

This is such great news if it turns out to be true. I'll be there day 1 for all these rumored games. Been wanting to replay Galaxy 1 and 2 and 3D World for a while now. Hope 3D World "Deluxe" includes 3D Land levels! But that may be asking for too much.

Boy Nintendo can't do anything wrong with Switch lol. I'd imagine the PS5 and Series X having a much tougher time taking over than people expect.

Idk why people assume they're going to rerelease everything individually at full price for no reason considering SM64 was 10€ on Wii U and both Galaxy 20 each.

Sunshine + 64 + Galaxy 1 + 2 in a 60€ package fits actually pretty well. That's assuming they only give each an uprezz, some controls adjustments and not full on remasters.
Honestly? Because they can. What's the cheapest port/remaster they've done? The Zelda games were games of similar scope and they were what, 50€ on release? What's the cheapest port they've put out? Captain Toad on Switch?

I don't think we'll ever see a regular retail Mario release for less than 50€, if only because it would compete as a product with stuff like Odyssey for the younger demographics. Would love to be wrong, but I don't see it. Even Super Mario All-Stars Wii was fairly pricey on release.

Edit: Also, now that I think of it, both Xenoblade Chronicles and Metroid Prime Trilogy were sold for 10€ for a while on Wii U, and they sure aren't charging/won't charge that for their remakes/remasters.

I've never played the Galaxy games so I'd buy it just for that. Obviously there for a Paper Mario game also.

I hope they expand 3d world a bit, maybe add another bonus world.

I'm guessing they're gonna package Galaxy/Galaxy2 and Sunshine/Mario64 together

I'm mixed on Mario 64. On one hand, YES. On the other, oof I've been hoping for a Nintendo Online N64 to be released similar to NES/SNES.

Though I guess both could happen eventually, especially if this is a full blown remake of Mario 64.

Can't sneeze at Galaxy. Loved the first one (and the second was fine too)

This will be my first time playing Sunshine.

Looking forward to seeing how disappointed I'll be about the new Paper Mario and how they completely forget what made the first two great.

As much as I liked 3D world, I don't think I can play it through again with 5+ characters. They need to change things up and put content behind beating levels and finding hidden things, not replaying it over and over.

Xenoblade is a full on remake rebuilt from the ground up, and with new story content. These Mario ports sound more like remasters.

I just don't see Nintendo having like, half a dozen 3D Mario games in the same year for full price.

When we get SNES Mario all stars packaged for switch can we at least get the version with super Mario world ?

It does sound like a lot, but maybe if there are a bunch of games with their development/release cycles affected by coronavirus, these remasters could be an easier way for them to fill up the year while they get things sorted out? Not that remasters don't take work, and I'm sure they would have had to have been working on them for a while up til now, but certainly they'd be easier to get out than whatever the planned slate of new games might have been, if the schedule's been seriously affected. Maybe they had been planning on spacing these remasters out more but moved them up in place of other, most resource-intensive releases.

ETA: I'm also not expecting Spyro or Crash-style full on remakes of these games - if anything they might increase the resolution and make some of the textures look prettier, maybe redo Mario's model to be more modern-looking. But I'm not expecting entirely new assets, which I think some people might be imagining.

WW or TP aren't comparable to Sunshine in scope?

I don't think they can just upres SM64 and call it a day. That one, either they remake in full or is part of a bundle/NSO thing.

And me neither, for what's worth, which is why I'm having some trouble wrapping my head around how exactly are they going to put them out, if not in a bundle. But then again, I don't think they will bundle them (at least not the meatier ones), for the reasons stated previously.

I do wonder if anniversary years will become a renewed thing now, with the Switch being HD and Nintendo's plan being getting all their older games remastered in HD.

Zelda and Metroid next year, Kirby in 2 years, etc.

Zelda and Metroid have better cases it seems however, with WW and TP already being in HD and Nintendo having the Zelda games in HD been ready for a while apparently and the infamous MPT.

(Although certain franchises like AC don't seem to make much sense like Wild World HD/City Folk HD/New Leaf HD with New Horizons existing. Smash could be one of the few series that can get consumers to play their older entries despite he latest being the superior entry (shush Melee fans, move on lol))

Didn't NSMBU Deluxe leak as well?
Not only that but NSMB Wii leaked before the E3 announcement. There were the infamous booth photos, but also I distinctly recall a leak that made mention of a 4-player Mario game being Nintendo's big announcement that year. (One-upped in my book by Mario Galaxy 2, though)

[Delfino Plaza Theme intensifies]

Hell yeah, can't wait to replay Sunshine! Huge fan of 3D Land too. I've really missed each of these over the years.

Super excited to finally be able to play SMG1+2 and 3D World as well, all since I didn't own a Wii or WiiU.

This is massive is Sunshine is getting a remaster, or even re-release. I don't know how they'd do the analogue triggers, but I know I'm in day 1.

Why would you want the terrible SMBAS when you have the superior original games?

Excited for Galaxy 1 if they fix the terrible motion controls that almost ruined the game. I wonder how they'll do all the pointer stuff, the Wii games need a lot of reworking.

I wonder how they'll do 64; remake the DS game and add stars to complete 180? That could work.

Sunshine needs a complete remake, such a mess of a game.

3D World is by far the one I'm most excited about. With just two pair of joycons, you can play with 4 players, that's awesome.

Edited the threadmark to include a link to Jeff Grubb's article on VentureBeat in order to avoid further confusion on the source for Galaxy's 2's remaster. Apologies for any confusion — editing existing threads whilst keeping an eye out for my bus stop is confusing business. :P

For anyone not aware, an official HD version of Galaxy for the Tegra X1 already exists in the form of the Chinese Nvidia Shield version.

Kind of yes and kind of no. That was using an emulator rather than being an actual port. I'd really be disappointed if they just emulated the games rather than actually remastering them and improving textures and cleaning up menus/text boxes and the like.

Nintendo has fucking killed it on Switch

Just amazing quality and strategy on all of their titles

Feels like they're firing on all cylinders

If 64 through Galaxy 2 are all one bundle I'd be incredibly excited and get it day 1, but no 3D Land would be a bummer.

Still day 1 on a 3D World port.

Also feel like a bundle of the first three NSMB games would be warranted and also something I'd buy. After that the only Mario platformers missing on Switch are, like, the Land games.

I wonder what the scheduling would be? Maybe 3D World launches around September and the full on collection in November? A big fat 3D Mario collection would be a good holiday title if BOTW2 can't make that deadline.
What if the extra levels in 3D World are the 3D Land levels?
