what about all the direct x features that aren't just pc related? are we just ignoring those?Pretty much. There's no reason for PS5 to have DX/PC related features.
That info was leaked by a dev who posted messages from a Sony Engineer. It is fact.
Look at all the hand-waving going on in here and people trying to cover their ears and eyes...or just burying their head in the sand. Seems like that is the trend this upcoming generation when it comes to a lot of variables.
Of course they didn't directly say this but come on, it's clear what they're trying to insinuate.
I should be more clear. PS5 is RDNA 2, but it is based on Navi 10, while xbox is based on Navi 21.you think both sony and AMD would openly lie on stage about it?
Yup Smells like Aaron Greenberg got his fingers all over this article.I would like to congratulate MS for a masterful troll job with the wording on this press release.
hasn't been confirmed as far as I know. This is what I've been saying MS is taking advantage of Sony's silence by steering people to assume PS5 is worse than it may or may not be. Everyone saying PS5 has equivalent features really have no idea and are just assuming. Possible? Sure. Likely? I think so. Confirmed? Absolutely not.It says "FULL" rdna 2. That means it uses all features. Not that the PS5 isn't an rdna 2 console. To my knowledge, please correct me if I'm wrong, the PS5 does not do VRS.
PS5 is RDNA2 based, but Sony has their own custom implementations. It's not 1:1 to RDNA2 that AMD has on PC. MS using their smart wording again to attract some console warriors.
I dunno, maybe, sometimes, they just dont have any agenda.Of course they didn't directly say this but come on, it's clear what they're trying to insinuate.
You've doubled down. I'd strongly advise you not to triple down on this. That info was leaked by a dev who posted messages from a Sony Engineer. It is fact.
Well, what they can do. The Xbox Brazil thread showed enough to me that this is the public MS is aiming.
Both console makers do that "only on" or "exclusive to" or "as seen on a" stuff. Full stop.MS PR is feeling increasingly petty to me as we approach launch.
Lets not just drag this in here maybe?Well, what they can do. The Xbox Brazil thread showed enough to me that this is the public MS is aiming.
We don't know if Sony has a VRS or SFS implementation, unfortunately. We do know it has the Geometry Engine for primitive shaders, but we don't know about mesh shaders either. This means Xbox is getting the whole RDNA2 feature set directly from AMD. This means nothing in regards to PS5 not having their own custom implementation of the same features. Looking forward to Digital Foundry bringing the common sense to those who love feed into the PR.
This is it. Exactly it.
this...lmaoWow at people being offended that MS is marketing their consoles.
those are not facts. What the engineer was trying to convey is that their feature set is a mix of things and not just one thing. the system IS RDNA2 as a base. That info was leaked by a dev who posted messages from a Sony Engineer. It is fact.
Of course they didn't directly say this but come on, it's clear what they're trying to insinuate.
This is like claiming their tweet about "How to move your Xbox from vertical to horizontal" had nothing to do with the PS5 lol
MS PR is feeling increasingly petty to me as we approach launch.
This was a PR released after AMD embargo about RDNA2 and 6800 series lifted...Just like that 'xsx need no stand to change orientation' tweet, right? /S
Aren't the Xbox Series consoles using a form of Windows as their OS? I'm assuming so since the Xbox One consoles apparently did.what about all the direct x features that aren't just pc related? are we just ignoring those?
You're right, sorry. Just still pissed because of that.
I don't see how it's petty for Microsoft to promote technology that they own. (DirectX 12 Ultimate features)MS PR is feeling increasingly petty to me as we approach launch.
TripleYou've doubled down. I'd strongly advise you not to triple down on this.
"Only on" isn't spin, it's promotion of a fact. Reframing "custom RDNA 2" as "incomplete RDNA 2" is spin. It's seizing on the general public's ignorance to imply something that isn't actually implied by the facts. Both console makers do that "only on" or "exclusive to" or "as seen on a" stuff. Full stop.
I am not really in this tech talk. But doesnt the DX stuff makes the "only" happen.
I mean PS5 wont have that right? So its kinda a PR blurb in the end.
I mean depending on which feature RDNA2 PS5 skips this could be just a marketing talk.
We don't know, because we don't know for sure if Sony has their own implementations of SRS, VRS, and mesh shaders.I assume this will all have very little benefit when comparisons come?
PS5 is RDNA2 based, but Sony has their own custom implementations. It's not 1:1 to RDNA2 that AMD has on PC. MS using their smart wording again to attract some console warriors.
its weird talking about xbox Brazil because the girl that got fired just got an xbox series X to show the unboxing on her youtube channel.........Well, what they can do. The Xbox Brazil thread showed enough to me that this is the public MS is aiming.
Pretty sure it's the custom route Sony went with the custom SSD controller, surely that means that Sony had to design their own I/O solution rather than plugin into the DirectX Ultimate API? So yes, Sony's hardware doesn't support that natively because it's designed to work in a complete different way.People seem very sure about what this means from what is pretty limited information. The way this is worded:
"Xbox Series X|S are the only next-generation consoles with full hardware support for all the RDNA 2 capabilities AMD showcased today."
implies quite heavily that the PS5 GPU does not have full hardware support for all the RDNA 2 capabilities AMD showed today. What we don't know is:
- What full hardware support means in this instance
- What RDNA 2 capabilities, if any, are impacted by the PS5 not having "full hardware support" for them
- What other capabilities, if any, might exist for PS5 that weren't shown today
