Dual Analog -> DualShock:

I was about to mention the original Playstation controller -> Dual-Shock. The Playstation controller that lacks analog sticks entirely is long forgotten.

My non-gaming example would probably be Windows 3.1's UI to Windows 95. Not only visually iconic but the Start Menu was a huge addition.

Am I missing something? Whether it be an actual difference or a joke? These look exactly the same

Original Dual Analog had slightly longer "handles", and had concave analog stick domes. (and, obviously, no rumble)
Actually, i didn't like the convex domes of the DualShock (and DS2 and DS3 / SixAxis) as they became super slippery after a while.

Honestly, the 3DS -> 3DS XL was also a very decent upgrade. (better materials, smaller bezels, better ergonomics)

And while the original Game Boy Advance was pretty neat, the GBA SP was a god tier handheld (imho).

We're kinda lucky that the first gen Switch actually looks pretty decent.

3GS to iPhone 4 was pretty big. That was such a great redesign.
probably one of the best examples.

the iPhone 4 was fucking iconic

The Dual Analogue has no rumble pack and the L3 and R3 buttons are concave and normal plastic instead of the "mushroom" shape and rubber coating of the DualShock version.

It also has longer grips than both the original PlayStation controller and the later DualShock controllers.

The L2 and R2 buttons also have different shapes than the DualShock:

The L2 and R2 were also shaped differently, being the same shape as L1 and R1

They are all beautiful, while staying true to their original theme.

Since we're posting iconic product redesigns.....
One that comes to mind is the way Macintoshes used to look like VS the initial iMac G3's Bondi Blue Exterior .

The two designs are still too close for this thread, imo.

Original PS controller to dual analog fits much better.

Another that could be considered an iconic one, at least for Console refresh history is the original PS1 design to the PSOne Slim refresh.

Remember that time when Rare redesigned its logo?

593378.gif

It didn't take too long before that intensely boring logo was changed back to something more akin to the original.

The change in design from the Samsung Galaxy S5 to the Samsung Galaxy S6 made Samsung phones stylistically appealing.
