I have to say, they definitely made Mizu more challenging compared to MHGU. That freaking water hose attack as he slides always gets me clutching lol.
Call me sentimental but the way it changes areas from the lower river to the upper river by moving into a path you can't follow- it would have been really cool and thematic if they had it swim up the waterfall and you could watch it as you climbed up in pursuit or something! :D I appreciate it's not worth the time to make an animation for one zone shift though.Definitely. He was never made much of an impression on me in GU but I've got a whole new opinion of him now (in a good way). Just really thrilling stuff.
Only while getting distracted and stupidly looking around the new interface/shortcuts in combat rather than paying attention :DSo did anyone else cart against Great Izuchi? I went for Switch Axe, but I only ever did aerial switch axe in MHGU so it's quite new to me and I wasn't expecting it's attacks to hit as hard as they do!

It became a Silkbind move so now it is on cool down.So they got rid of the descending trust attack that marks and the monster making the kinsect pierce it?
In sword mode, you can enter something called the amped state if you land enough hits (this is denoted by a secondary meter building up on the sword power icon.) When you're in the amped state, all your sword attacks do bonus damage (you should see little explosions going off after every hit,) and it lets you do the amped element discharge, that move where you latch onto a bit of the monster and explode. All you have to do is press X+A while close enough to the monster and you'll automatically latch on!After playing many times trough the demo, I can safely assure I will stay a GS main.
But I'm also going to play a little with the switch axe.
In the sword mode I managed to stag on top of rathains head with the x+a combo, but only managed to do it once.
How do I have to do it?
Okay, I always build up a meter with the axe mode, but there is another one building up in sword mode? Because I do the explosion attack many times but my hunter never latched onto a big monster. I'd guess that'll be there in the training room. For now you can go to your hunter notes to see weapon moves and combos.Anybody know if there's a Display Moveset option in the HUD like World during training?
That's something I remarked the moment I saw them for the first time, and as someone who also likes to hunt completely solo from time to time, at the moment it really does seem that dogs are absolutely mandatory. There's the 'wait' option, and at first I had hoped it might be the solution, but it's not good enough unfortunately. Once you call for transportation, waiting is disabled and you have to activate it again when you reach your target, which might be just a small nuisance, but the bigger issue is that the monsters don't ignore your waiting pets. Rather they start wailing on poor sitting, defenseless dogs and cats. So there's no solo experience at all anymore if you want quick movement on the map, which is a bummer.* Dogs are super fast, the maps are huge and monsters move often. Again, this in and of itself makes them absolutely mandatory. The drifting move makes dogs insanely fast btw. There is room in the UI for multiple camps, so this will be less of a problem later on. But still, it is an absolutely superior way of traversing the map.
Yeah, there are two separate meters: the one you're talking about building up in axe mode is essentially your sword charge. It builds up on its own over time, but increases faster as you attack in axe mode. Attacking in sword mode decreases the gauge - certain attacks, like the explosion, deplete it much more quickly. If it runs empty you'll be forced back into axe mode, and if you try switching back before it's around 1/4 or so full, you'll get stuck in a "reload" animation that stops you in your tracks.Okay, I always build up a meter with the axe mode, but there is another one building up in sword mode? Surprised that not more people are talking about the real game changer
sharpening your weapon the go on your doggo
Gonna give this a shot! Monster Hunter is something I'm always interested in but never gave a fair shot, and also I feel bad hurting the cool monsters :(

Thank you so much! Now that I understand the weapon better I even love it more!Yeah, there are two separate meters: the one you're talking about building up in axe mode is essentially your sword charge. The second meter is the amped state gauge, and that *only* builds up as you attack in sword mode, decreasing slowly over time when you aren't landing hits. In world there were certain combos you could do to make it build more quickly, but I'm not sure how much of that's carried over to rise. Basically, sword mode is heavier hitting than axe mode anyway, but being in the amped state makes it even more damaging.
Having some time to think about this, there might be pretty simple solutions to this. Hunters could be able to use the same shortcuts as monsters for example. Or there could be a "dig underground and wait" command for dogs. That's something I remarked the moment I saw them for the first time, and as someone who also likes to hunt completely solo from time to time, at the moment it really does seem that dogs are absolutely mandatory. that was on iceborne, the mounting there seemed like a prototype for the palamute mount.Surprised that not more people are talking about the real game changer

There might be more commands available for the action bar beyond what's shown in the demo, and I hope there's one that basically makes the pets wait and be ignored by monsters. Wait underground or something, as you said. I think that's the most straightforward and probably easiest way to solve the 'play solo' issue.Having some time to think about this, there might be pretty simple solutions to this. I am going to go out and see if it is possible to figure out where the other camps might be located, as they could very well be distributed close to every battle area, making this a non-issue immediately.
I suspect you'll be able to deselect all pets at the buddy facility in the village, that's how it worked with felynes in previous games. There might be more commands available for the action bar beyond what's shown in the demo, and I hope there's one that basically makes the pets wait and be ignored by monsters. I've never bothered with longsword after getting tired of being endlessly tripped by LS hunters, but I might have to give it a go this time aroundI finally have mastered the weeb sword. Foresight slash is addicting and then using helm breaker with the silkbind skill on a red gauge which does massive damage and instantly can mount.
Thanks to some advice and practice, I have killed Mizu in 14 minutes. Proud of myself lol.
The owl replaces the scout flies in this game.Enjoying the demo overall, though I was sad about the lack of things like the savage axe mode (though apparently that might be in the game with the leaks). Charging with both the switch axe and charge blade felt slow compared to world, though maybe that is due to the equipment? Hope the full game has some sort of monster tracking too. I didn't like scout flies but getting rid of tracks entirely seems like too much. Online play felt pretty sluggish as well, hopefully they iron that out.
most likely going to wait for the PC but I'm looking forward to having another MH game to play soon.

yes, you see it fly when you start the huntIs the owl in the demo? Every hunt I did just pointed straight towards the monster.
So...what does it do for tracking the monster outside of it all being automatic in the demo?
