Some MH newcomer: " I know this may sound weird, but I'm a bit turned off that this series is about killing wild animals for sport"Most of the voice lines have been weird as hell. Still can't get over the "Daddy needs a new pair of boots" quote you get from carving lol
That one gives you an attack buff, the other one makes your stamina recover a lot faster if you stay still after the evasive jump.So how does Silkbind work for Bow users? I hit R + A and the characters hand starts to emit blue. But my arrows don't change or anything...
So how do you do the wyvern riding with it? In the tutorial mission I wound up using a puppet spider instead. That one gives you an attack buff, the other one makes your stamina recover a lot faster if you stay still after the evasive jump.

Ohhh ok. Hmm I wonder if there are any alternatives now. Thanks! In the full game you will be able change the Evasion Silkbind Skill for an Ariel Attack Silkbind Skill that will allow you to initiate Wyvern Riding without the use of the Puppet Spider
Have you tried dodging while aiming and then A or X (I don't remember which was is it) to do a jump melee ? I think that used to do mount damage on world.Ohhh ok. Hmm I wonder if there are any alternatives now. Thanks!
Omg lmao. I've always kind of hated that kind of response to this particular criticism, like just admit it's blood sport much of the time, but I'd also rather capcom not draw attention to it or joke like thatSome MH newcomer: " I know this may sound weird, but I'm a bit turned off that this series is about killing wild animals for sport"
MH veteran: "Well, you see, the quests are contextualized in a way that makes it more than hunting for sport. Hunters actively help the environment by hunting destructive invasive species such as Deviljho or sometimes some monster is enroaching on a settlement and need to be put down and then there are Eld..."
Hunter: "Hehe, daddy needs a new pair of BOOTS"
Maybe before it became the new hotness, but now that it looks like a weapon you can effectively solo there may be no more shame.I'm enjoying the Hunting Horn a lot, but I'm a bit nervous that I'll be the target of hostility if I use it (as is the case for support weapons/characters a lot of the time). Is it a weapon that you'll be judged for using if you're not super pro?
I've found you never really get that weird 'class choice prejudice' stuff with MonHun. Sure, hunting horn supports the team, but hunting horn is a weapon in its own right that can out-damage some of the others, it's not like they are the designated support role or anything and if you aren't doing the support right, you aren't pulling your weight like in some serious MMO endgame raid . MonHun moves so fast that the only time people really notice if you aren't doing too well is when you cart, or if you mess up traps and sleep/bomb strategies others have set up. not how much damage you are or aren't doing. Given that, the constant buffs means that hunting horn users tend to be very welcome!I'm enjoying the Hunting Horn a lot, but I'm a bit nervous that I'll be the target of hostility if I use it (as is the case for support weapons/characters a lot of the time). I still remember a friend and I playing MHTri and having a Hunter ask us to assist with Aleotron, the final online boss at the time. He then proceeded to wait in the camp while we killed it for him. After 30 minutes of slogging away, we went and literally kicked him into the arena where he, as expected, carted immediately, and so we sighed and settled in to finish it with just two of us. Presumably they just wanted to see the end credits or something, it was weird though, never seen it before or ever since. Agree on hunting horn being welcome for new players joining a hunt to take on something they aren't familiar with yet. Ranged weapons too, as long as they aren't charging in with an all-out attack style and triple carting inside of ten minutes, multiple hunts in a row I'm easy. We all have bad hunts. In my experience* Monster Hunter isn't that kind of game. It's a pretty chill community where it takes showing up in low rank armor to an end-game encounter and carting thrice in the subsequent fight to get kicked from a pick-up group. I don't think the huge popularity of Insect Glaive ever resulted in more than mild ribbing. And, honestly, if a bad player joins my hunt, new Hunting Horn is the weapon I want them to bring because that way they'll be most likely to still contribute to us doing well.
*based on the 3DS gens. If World's mainstream success in the west changed the attitude of the playerbase, I'm not aware.

That's true, I've defo had that where one player carted twice and then stayed in camp so as not to be responsible for everyone failing the quest.Never had a case like that. Almost reads like the person didn't want to type out an elaborate explanation on the Wii keyboard so settled for a simple request and silence. But it reminds me of plenty times when the group I was in took on a tough monster that was new to someone. And if they carted once or twice and weren't comfortable continuing but stayed back in camp while the rest of the group finished the mission, never once did anyone have a problem with it or make them leave afterwards. It was the least toxic multiplayer game I've known.

Honestly, I'm wary about online communities myself and I absolutely never had a problem in any monster hunter game I've played so far. And a big part of that is simply that interaction via messages or voice chat is minimal to non-existent. I think I can count on one hand the amount of times in my 800+ hours in World where I got any sort of interaction with another random player, not counting stickers and gestures. And I easily played 70% of my time online. It really is a non-issue from my experience. I obviously can't speak for yours, but I'm pretty sure that you will be able to play Rise without having to deal with toxicity. There might be a few passive-aggressive automatic shout-outs when someone faints, or sarcastic sticker usage, but that's honestly the worst of it. I can't speak for PC, and I heard that mods like damage meter foster a bit of toxicity, but on consoles and especially Rise I wouldn't worry about it at all. So I'd absolutely encourage you to give it a try, because even without really interacting with anyone, hunting together can be a good bit of fun.I have to confess, I've played over a 1000 hours across all the MH games I've played (I started with Tri > 3U > 4U > GU > Rise will be next) and have never ever played a single game online. Pretty much every online multiplayer game (where communication is a thing) I've played was full of people being toxic towards me, most likely because of my background (without going into too much detail). Because of that, I automatically avoid some online multiplayer, including MH despite loving the series. I know I shouldn't just write the community off, since on message boards and discord I've had a nice experience and the community has been nice. But the toxicity I've experienced just ruins my enjoyment of some games.
I think I'm going to give it a go with Rise, since there is no voice chat anyway, so that should decrease the chance of me getting annoyed. And if the community continues to be nice, that's even better and might help me get over this prejudice of "online communication in multiplayer games is bad!"
Thank you, your post is reassuring. I'm certainly willing to give it a try, and it's something that I think could be really fun.Honestly, I'm wary about online communities myself and I absolutely never had a problem in any monster hunter game I've played so far. MonHun is the only online game I play, the co-op nature helps I think, plus it being a system with a lot to learn. It's a really friendly community!Thank you, your post is reassuring. I'm certainly willing to give it a try, and it's something that I think could be really fun.
Either way, I can't wait for this game to finally release!
I could say the same thing about PC. Also speaking about the Damage Meter mod, out of the 985 hours I put into World on PC, I think I've only encountered 1 person out of all my hunts that linked one in chat, and when they did the other people talked them down lolHonestly, I'm wary about online communities myself and I absolutely never had a problem in any monster hunter game I've played so far. That makes me happy. And you're right, it being co-op helps against possible toxicity.MonHun is the only online game I play, the co-op nature helps I think, plus it being a system with a lot to learn. It's a really friendly community!

That's very good to know haha, I don't like the idea of a damage meter in Monster Hunter. Nice to hear that it's basically just the same on PC when it comes to the community.I could say the same thing about PC. Also speaking about the Damage Meter mod, out of the 985 hours I put into World on PC, I think I've only encountered 1 person out of all my hunts that linked one in chat, and when they did the other people talked them down lol
It's just information, nothing harmful! (Sarcasm)Using a dps meter in MH? Wow
Why would anyone even do that, so many factors can impact a fight with monsters in the game, only the arena is a more controllable environment. This isnt an mmorpg like ffxiv where mechanics are set and once the fight is memorized it's all about dps optimization. Lots of things can change how the fight plays out in MH.
Well I won't lie and say I didn't use one on the PC version. Before I stopped playing , I started using one for a few months. Never linked it in chat or used it in a toxic manner though. I was just used to having one for so long after playing WoW for years and was curious, and I got more into solo speedkills a bit so it was nice to see what I could improve on as it didn't just show damage if I recall.Using a dps meter in MH? Wow

Yeah, such a thing isn't inherently bad - when utilized as the other scenario, it's toxic, but without that it's totally not a problem, and likely even a benefit. Seeing improvement is super cool!Well I won't lie and say I didn't use one on the PC version. Before I stopped playing , I started using one for a few months. Yeah, the lack of voice chat actually makes me want to try online lol. I'm more comfortable with the idea now.It is a fun online game. You wont really see too much of people freaking out or being rude. Especially as there is no mic support. I think I have only run into someone truly being an asshole once. And we just kicked him because lol at getting mad over this.
I think you'll enjoy playing online.
A discord would be great to find certain hunts. I've read about how hard it can get to find hunts for certain monsters in GU, because there are so many monsters in that game. A discord would help with similar situations.I expect a discord to pop up from this community and ppl are more than helpful. So finding ppl to hunt with when they know you are learning will be easier than on past games. It used to be tough to fill certain missions but the improvements to mission structure and drop in probably make it a better community.
That's very true hahaha! After all, nobody is gonna help you farm a monster if you act like an asshole.
Generally if i cart twice ,i just leave the session immediately in shame :/
