The comics are inexcusable.

I really enjoy James, Justin, Kieran(sp?), and Tony...but Mike has always been insufferable.
Are the rental review guys shit bags too? I think James and Mike are life long friends, so I can kinda understand why James doesn't cut him out of his life. I have childhood best friends who hold questionable views, but I still love them as friends, life isn't quite black and white in that sense. I guess it is different if we're discussing a business and your moral stance of the business however.

Whatabout context:
Mike posted his dick pic publicly on his Twitter and the Cinemassacre subreddit, both of which were not flagged as 18+.
So basically, he exposed himself to minors as well as adults who probably did not want or expect to see that on their subscription feed when logging on to Twitter or reddit that day.
Y'know, it's probably only a matter of time before Mike gets called out in mass for this stuff. James is a genuinely nice guy, he even called out racism in some of the old films recently. But Mike... man...
Has Mike explained why he does that? Could it be satire. Although if it is satire, then it's the worst satire ever and shows that he has issues. TBH I reckon James also has issues because you see how obsessed these guys are with toilet humor and violence. And I am not talking about the Nerd character but the let's plays and other stuff.
I sporadically check in on the Cinemassacre channel 2-3 times every year and I kinda wish James would just make a separate channel devoid of Mike where he talks about movies, as that seems to be where his passion genuinely is these days. It feels like the only reason he's still doing AVGN lately is purely out of obligation.
James could easily branch off on his own without issue, whereas Mike would probably be fucked if James ever abandoned him.

When James sweared it was comedic due to several elements, whereas Mike just thought swearing itself was funny.

I think it's just because it's not news. He was drawing these in 2004 (when he would have been 24) at latest, and the comics were dug out on Reddit in 2017. Mike Matei is a major part of the Angry Video Game Nerd empire and doesn't give a shit about what he did, so he's probably not going to get any consequences except fans no longer watching. I gets brought up in other threads about associated things - you'd see these comics mentioned when Channel Awesome was imploding.

He's like 40 now, it's been a long time and not everyone feels the need to retroactively pick through their past. If someone wants to question him on it at a panel or meet and greet that's fair game. Judge him them instead of trying to drag a person for a past they might have put behind.

Between those two, I'd rather the ProJared path than the Vic Mignogna one. I've heard some nasty things in person that have come out of that.
But I'm mostly familiar with the Angry Video Game Nerd as a footnote in internet history. Maybe there's some reason that it didn't take that sort of direction within this fanbase. Since it already hit Reddit and it's spread enough that non-fans like me know about it, I think it already successfully slipped the radar, but I suppose you could try posting a thread or posting about it to social media if you think it can still happen.

I still watch AVGN videos when they come out. But anything with Mike I pass. Even before I knew about the racist comics I didn't think we was very funny. I could tell Mike knows his shit when it comes to games, but he's not very entertaining and comes off as an annoying prick. And in the Mike and James videos Mike seems to do 80% of the talking & playing, while James will add a comment every now and then.
