I was having this exact issue with my game when I was running on DX 12 w/ultra settings (what it defaulted to). I was playing at first and got to (very very early spoilers)
The monsters jump on you and the guys start pulling them off you
and it froze up there. Then after playing again it froze about 20 minutes into it after that.

I switched it to DX11 and turned hairworks off and for now it seems good, I only played about an hour though, so fingers crossed that it's not going to do that anymore.

What is your system specs by any chance?

I'm on a 2600k and a 1070 w/newest drivers and the newest 1809 windows 10 update.

I switched to DX11 and upon start up the game freezed on the first splash screen animation :D
I restarted the PC again and then it ran well for 20 minutes. Ran benchmark twice and also stable, with same exact results as measured on RPS.
I have Ryzen 2700X, GTX1070 with latest drivers and latest windows. They really fucked up DX12 on Pascals I guess.

is the difference between ultra and extreme really noticeable?

Running the benchmark tool I did not even see any difference between high and medium.

In a comparison I saw some minor LOD diferences but other that that I can't tell you what other diferences are.

After some testing I think Ultra is the way to go. I get 60 FPS 99% of the time at 1080p with MBlur at Low and any nvidia stuff disabled. I have a GTX 1070 and this was tested in the Volga level.

No it is not massive, but you will see differences in the volumetric resolution most readily if you checked. The other htings it has slight influence on, like shadow resolution and vegetation look in the distance or tessellation distance are not really ultra noticable, just nice pluses.

Anybody else experiencing fps slow down on the desert level ?

I've got a gtx1080 and got all settings on extreme at 1080p and had no issues upto this level. Had 50-60fps in previously levels now significant fps drops on this level.

Anybody else experience this ?

Help please ...

I turned my settings back up to Extreme. Don't hold 60fps now but I found the LOD pop-in distracting and noticed some low-res textures on Ultra that look better on Extreme.

Is it possible to change individual elements of the presets? Would like to turn motion blur off as well

edit: nevermind, found the user config location on the Steam forums

Game just straight breaks when switching to DX12. In-game menu runs at about 2 fps and soft locks my PC when attempting to quit.

i9-7920X @ 4.6GHz
RTX 2080 Ti
32GB RAM

Guess I'll just wait until they fix it, was looking forward to playing it with RTX enabled.

I think I will refund it. I have hitches when entering new zones or maybe when the game saves. Used a RAM disk to the save folder and the problem remains. I can't play with hitches :(

This game is really making me itch for a 2080ti. I told myself I was going to hold off but this is the game I was waiting for. Might just have to suck it up and see what's next from Nvidia.

I need to sell my extra 1080tis ASAP.

The game keeps on crashing for me unfortunately. Happened once when transitioning to the first outdoors area, and a second time when transitioning to the next indoors area. This is with a 9900k and a 2080 ti, running in 2560*1080 resolution, raytracing ultra, dlss off, everything else maxed out. I really like metro, so I may have to delay my playthrough until they have fixed the game-breaking bugs

Increasing the FOV doesn't affect performance much and I prefer it higher, but some guns have issues like this:

Metro-Exodus-2019-02-16-16-59-21-354.png

There are other issues too with some HUD placement but it's mostly fine. Kinda strange this is still happening in 2019. BTW the menu is affected as well, top is default and bottom is max FOV of 90:

DX12 or DX11? There have been reports that switching from DX12 to DX11 has stopped people freezing/crashing.

Friend of mine says that Steam version is still on 1.0.0.0 while apparently Epic Store version is on 1.0.1.0

Is this true?

I have the steam version and I can confirm that it's on the 1.0, I don't know about the epic version

Edit - apparently the patch was already included on the preload

Shouldn't then that be on same version as Epic Store?
That's what i was thinking but there is also the patch notes available:

https://www.metrothegame.com/it/notizie/patch-notes-summary/
  • Tuned HDR saturation
  • RTX Improvements / Bug Fixing
  • Added DLSS Support
  • Additional HUD removal options (coming soon to console) when playing in Ranger Mode
  • Added Motion Blur options (coming soon to console)

and it doesn't seem that anything on the list is missing on the Steam version of the game. At the very least I can confirm that an option for the motion blur exist and also the HUD removal options for the ranger mode. (I don't have an rtx capable vga)

It is really strange to keep 2 versions of the same game on different stores.

What should be the vFOV value for 21:9 resolutions?

Have you had any more crashes today on DX11?

Played a couple hours and none here, just wondering if it's the same experience for you.

Have some severe stutter when entering new areas with my 980ti 6700k. Also stutters when saving. It's annoying because it runs constant 60fps on ultra at 1080p. Not sure what is causing the stutter/

Forest level looks unbelievable but damn if the 1440p 60 fps raytracing dream doesn't go crashing there. Steady 60fps in other areas to always in the high 40s to low 50s

I ordered 2080Ti yesterday so I haven't played any further, will wait for it to arrive and hopefully 4A will fix the other issues in the meantime (like that fucked up controller sensitivity).

Playing on ultrawide 2560x1080, 2080 i7 8700k, game is gorgeous, rtx set to high game on ultra the lighting is sick, the fire effect looks very cartoonish and out of place is only complaint

Yep, same here. I thought it was due to my quad-core CPU. I'm on i5-3330 + GTX 970. Have you installed the game on HDD? Maybe moving the game to SSD will solve it.

Im pretty sure its gotta be the HDD, im not on ssd. Id be curious to know of people that dont stutter when saving and are on a normal 7200 HDD.

Yep I've seen both of those.

The white splotches seem pretty common. The black one actually swarms up like a void, only seen it twice. Likely both a bug in their denoising alg.
