On the one hand, it's fine to think your party - including the head of your party - has serious problems and still think the other party is worse in our shitty two-party system. I honestly never liked Clinton, and didn't vote for her in the primary, but never for a nanosecond did I think she wouldn't be infinitely better than Trump, so I voted for her.

On the other, she still promulgates shitty Republican/conservative ideas, so fuck her. She doesn't even deserve to be on the View. She should be a nobody.

Integrity and principals don't mean shit to people like McCain. They see a guy doing damage to the country and to their party and they're still putting party over country. They stand for nothing. Fuck her and fuck everybody like her.

I love her, but I know I'm in the minority. She's the face of the "Better of two evils vote."

I've been there before.

I watched nearly the whole thing to see if anything interesting happens between the two and it's the same reach across the aisle garbage vomited out before and after Trump. She literally talks about being triggered by criticism aimed at the GOP.

I was expecting this thread to be about how white people fail upwards in the GOP and that she's a poster child for estate taxes.

She will line up with Trump because in the world of political terrorists like the GOP, every candidate that could run on the Democratic ticket is a socialist. They will find a way to make Joe Biden, who has a policy history more in line with the GOP than current policies the public holds, as a true red commie. You see it now with her nonsense about AOC and quoting dead parasites like Margaret Thatcher.
Her faildaughter status means her survival is linked to supporting a man that constantly trashes her trash father's memory and a husband that has called her a pig.

It's an arrangement that brings great joy...to me.

I can't really say that I'm all that surprised about anything GOP'like people do now. That's pretty sad.

This is all you need to know about McCain:

"You clearly know everything and I am just the blonde thing."

She jumped into that victim role with the quickness.

the fact that she would vote for a person who blasts her late father is so fucking pathetic and spineless that I'm not sure the english language has a word to describe it

I wish Joy Behar would come for her way harder on the view. Whoopi also seems to let her do as she pleases. In fact she seems to get away with a ton of shit on the view that most co-hosts probably couldn't.

I swear 90% of comments under any view clip on YouTube is some variation of fire her or just dragging her for her idiocy. Then again the view helped birth Elizabeth Hasslebeck, so...

Whoopi isn't there to pick fights - she seems content to just give lightweight Whoopi speeches - and the other three seem cluelessly incapable of handling McCain's doublespeak and dogwhistling.

So at the end of the day there's no one stopping her from running the boat the way she wants. And she wants to run it like a wannabe Fox pundit.

Whoopi acts mostly as a moderator (and Joy has been performing that role while Whoopi has been out with pneumonia). She speaks up when she's really bothered, but usually she lets the table talk. With that said, people definitely need to challenge both Meghan and Abby more than they do. It's weird that the most heated things typically ever get is when Meghan and Ana get into fights about Being Republican.

Regarding this topic, it's funny because yesterday they were talking about what Trump said about John McCain, and she just sat there in silence. She eventually said something like "he keeps going after men who are greater than he is, and he will never be great" and that's about it.

It's not about principals or politics for most people; it's a branding for them. GOP/Conservative = "tough" and "patriotic" and.. well.. "white."

I think Meghan McCain goes beyond being a poster child for what is wrong with the GOP. She's actually the poster child for what is wrong with American capitalism. She is not intelligent, has no moral principles, limited talent in her field, but she's led a life of extreme wealth and privilege because of her parents. It's peak nepotism and a perfect argument for how generational wealth has a corrosive effect on our society. The estate tax for estates over a certain amount should be 100%.

As far as her feelings around Trump, it's a unique case. Trump has gone after her father personally on numerous occasions, in ways that are totally beyond the pale. But because her only guiding principle is "protect my money" she STILL supports him! McCain is a piece of shit human being. The apple didn't fall far from the tree...

What's amazing is Trump is everything that party has symbolized. He's only come home to roost.

Neoliberal policies and a propaganda of ideals that any form of business is good? A person who doesn't need to use the dog whistles and breaks the shackles of civility? A person acting on emotion often against the world of reason and fact? These are traits of an entire political party, so I'm always bemused when former Republicans act as if Trump came down from a meteor and effectively invaded their party. Nah, all he did was cut through the theater and gentlemen's agreements when it came to public decor.

All of the people upset with Trump and "left the party" would likely still be there if Trump was the same person but chilled out with saying the quiet parts out loud. And that says so much to their intellectual and moral bankruptcy.

Absolutely. Trump isn't something new. He's just louder and lacks the civility. He replaced the dogwhistle of the neocon with the bullhorn of fascism.

Look up "Trump's white women demographic" in the dictionary tand you'll see Meghan's face

I'm hardly a fan of Meghan McCain, but you're giving Republican white women an awful lot of credit.

Think about the average white man that's a Trump voter. Now imagine the white woman that would marry that man. That is Trump's white women demographic.

Megan McCain is probably the most insufferable political talking head right now, just abysmal. She pretends to be a moderate yet jumps on board every false Republican outrage and shares the bed of the editor of the batshit crazy Federalist.

She couldn't even blog competently for her father's campaign, why does she have any prominence?

There's been a multifaceted push on NTs lately that either pushes them to come back to the flock due to Individual-1 not going to survive till Aug. 2020 (and the bloodbath that would precipitate) or that the instant he loses they memory-hole them and everyone can go back to singing Kumbaya and to regroup for 2024. Im not sure this is germaine to her framing her thinking like this or just this weekend's flopsweat libel, but take note of it.

That said, Type 2 Never-Trumpers like her (soft on ideology, strong on identity, haven't bailed), are hoping for a miracle that will not come and at best, like above, will cause a reset to 2012 and a new one will come about, one not paralyzed by NPD, stupidity, and being owned by a foreign power.

And that simply cannot happen.

You should listen to her on the View, she's a republican through and through
And she tries to pretend otherwise. She doesn't have an original thought in her head. Her father was the same. Anti-minority, Pro-Christian ideals that you hide behind concerns of neutrality and "civility". She whines and plays the victim on a dime because she's never actually had anything to struggle about and never had to actually form solid opinions or principles, simply absorbing them from the white men and women she was surrounded by. All her life has been coddling so even a simple argument makes her feel attacked. Her only merit is that her vapidity is so all-encompassing and relentless that it manages to become tiresome. Saltines and white bread become more flavorless and stale when consumed in her presence. She is the distilled essence of privileged mediocre white woman.

This right here. Don't let her fool you.

What's wild to me is that she'll let this mothafucka shit-talk her own father and just be like w/e. I'm pretty sure someone would have approximately 0 times to bad-mouth my family, after which we're not cool anymore.

Republicans are good at rallying the troops. Droves and droves of people will go into the polls next year to vote for Trump even though they're not MAGA hat wearing loudmouths.

John and Fail probably were never that close. I couldn't imagine McCain being a good father. She gets to use him as a weapon and to shield any criticism thrown at her ignorant ass.

I spent my entire life in a cult. This sounds exactly the same. A total mental disconnect from reality and an indoctrination of the party into what they themselves are. Not just a set of beliefs.

If she had any integrity, she would have very publicly left the GOP when Trump criticized her father's war record and the majority of her party were silent and still are as the attacks continue posthumously. She is was and always will be a sad political animal.

She and Raphael Cruz are cut from the same cloth.

The dirty little secret about much of this Trump revolt as that most of it is driven from a place of shame on the world stage, than that of honest opposition.

The idea that Trump is the cause of the GOP's issues rather than the most inevitable symptom is frustrating.

If we ever emerge from this, the media should have a soundboard of the multiple times every single GOP politician - INCLUDING JOHN MCCAIN - voted with him, defended him, lied for him, humiliated themselves for him and directly attacked the constitution, reputation and security of our country on his behalf.

She's one of the last remnants of the "center-right", the so-called "sane" GOP that supposedly died with Trump's ascendancy. I doubt they were ever as reasonable as they pretended to be but their supporters (and a lot of Democrats) bought into that narrative cause it was more convenient than confronting the dormant strain of white supremacy in that entire party.

I think she's more emblematic of #nevertrump conservatives rather than the GOP as it currently exists, and her and Chelsea Clinton form a perfect portrait of white feminism in America, the banality of "civil" and "bipartisan" politics.

Do you expect her to suddenly become a Democrat or something? Is that what we are banking on, a uprising of Republicans to switch parties? Give more young people voices, you'll have a better shot in the future.

I think people are not expecting to hear from her at all, which in a sane country you wouldn't.
