I wonder if a lot of the surprise games have already been named and we will see this mostly bolstered by the games we've seen in Genesis Ultimate Collection last gen with maybe 5-6 swapped out, something like:

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Alien Storm
Altered Beast
Beyond Oasis
Bonanza Bros.
Castlevania Bloodlines
Columns
Comix Zone
Dynamite Headdy
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco: The Tides of Time
Flicky
Golden Axe
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III
Gunstar Heroes
Kid Chameleon
Madō Monogatari
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
Puyo Puyo Tsu
Rent a Hero
Ristar
Rocket Knight Adventures
Shining Force
Shining Force II
Shining in the Darkness
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Space Harrier 2
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Sonic Spinball
Sonic & Knuckles
Sonic 3D Blast
Streets of Rage
Streets of Rage 2
Streets of Rage 3
Super Thunder Blade
Vectorman
Vectorman 2
Wrestleball

So I'm still playing catch-up but is Madō Monogatari going to be on the Genesis version as well? Really excited to stick this thing next to my other mini's.

I wonder if this is why the switch games are taking a while to get released. It makes sense. I'm probably going to buy 2 of these

Depending on the final catalogue I will probably pick it up. And the fact that those controllers are USB is a part of that decision.

Why? The snes mini had super casltevania 4 and thst is in the upcoming collection. Same goes for contra 3.

NES/SNES Classics are no longer being produced, so the games will not be competing with each other.

Meanwhile, the Castlevania Collection and the Genesis Mini will be released very close to each other.

I hope the game is included in both places, but I really doubt it.
Maybe the game will be included in the alleged Castlevania Collection 2.

you are thinking of the master system, which was the 8-bit console before the sega genesis:

1200px-Sega-Master-System-Set.jpg

The master system is perhaps better known in the US as the Game Gear.
The master system was called the game gear in the US? In the UK, game gear was the handheld console.

Judging by the poll, if we only get Shining Force 1, it's kind of a let down. SF1 is a great game but very inferior to its sequel.

No
They use the same internal hardware. Some people are therefore saying they are the same but from a user point of view they are 2 different platforms. Its not like the sega nomad where you could use genesis carts on a portable console.

I love how that western page is dripping with classic Sega slogans. This is so freaking awesome. I can't wait to see what the US advertising looks like. I fucking loved the US advertising for the Genesis.

This is so blinkered as to be bizarre world.

Nintendo has been doing Virtual Console since 2006, and is the one that brought mini consoles mainstream with superb emulation from NERD. Even before that with the NES games in Animal Crossing, e-reader cards, Famicom/NES classics on GBA. Their emulation quality has been at or near top of the class at every point, outside of some odd missteps on Wii U with brightness settings.

Sega on the other hand has been spotty as hell over a long period of time. Until this point, they allowed their name and games to be sullied by turd outfits like Atgames and Tectoy's garbage. The various Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Collection releases from the PS2 era onward, all the way up to the recent poorly emulated PS4/Switch stuff, have been farmed to the cheapest c-grade developers like Backbone/Digital Eclipse, as well as there having been some good releases by Whitehead and M2, particularly the superb 3DS releases.

But the cognitive dissonance to say that Sega has done a good job and Nintendo a bad one with their 16-bit and earlier back catalogue is mind blowing.
I primarily play on PC so you can see why Nintendo releasing 0% of their catalog on PC is at odds with the numerous legal Genesis games I can get there.

I also get to keep my games every generation instead of being locked out of my backlog like Nintendo does with their virtual console.

Even though I own all these on the original genesis I think I'll still pick one up

Would love it if they included games were from third parties as Sega themselves have re-released most of their genesis library in some form that don't have some form of purchasable re-release

Games like
- Rocket Knight Adventure
- Quackshot
- One of the genesis Madden games
- Road Rash 2

Would be particularly interesting to see this hacked to add extra roms, especially since Sega sell Mega Drive roms on Steam, so it would be relatively easy to buy and add roms to it.

If M2 are doing this I'm in. Hope the other 30 games are well selected. I'd personally go with something like:

Story of Thor/Beyond Oasis
Shining Force 2
Landstalker
Shining in the Darkness
Streets of Rage 2
Sonic 2
Sonic 3
Sonic & Knuckles
Aladdin
Speedball 2
Mega Turrican
Ristar
Jungle Strike
Zombies Ate My Neighbours
Alien Soldier
Contra Hard Corps
World Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck
Rocket Knight Adventures
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist/Revenge of the Shredder
Rock n Roll Racing
Mega Bomberman
Earthworm Jim
Thunder Force IV
Warsong
Strider
Steel Empire
Dragon's Fury/Devil Crash
Phantasy Star IV
Contra: Hard Corps
Dynamite Headdy

Dunno how easy Disney is to deal with for this stuff though

Don't know if this has been answered, but what are the controller ports? They look like the regular ports and there's now mention of USB-controllers on the website.

That doesn't necessarily work the other way (Game Gear games on a Master System) due to the Game Gear supporting more colors, right?
Also, to my knowledge, there is no way to play the Sega Card games on a Game Gear. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If a game gear game doesn't use those extra colors, it'll work. The vast majority of game gear game releases are actually normal Sega Master System roms, using normal sega master system color palettes, just on different shaped carts. If you straight pin convert those, they will run right. See this post for an explanation of the difference: https://www.resetera.com/threads/me...doing-menu-music.108509/page-10#post-19372371

For game gear games that use the extra colors, you can use rom patches to make them use SMS colors and they'll run on a SMS. Example:

yzrTjan.jpg

the vast majority of the "GG" library is literally SMS games.

You can use a My Card Catcher to play SMS card games on a Game Gear. It's just a different pin out. It's like the difference between the western turbo grafx 16 and japanese PC Engine.

There is actually greater incompatibility between the Mark III and the SMS today, than the SMS and the Game Gear.

I seem to remember when they first announced it with ATgames doing it there was going to be cartridge support. I'm guessing that's no longer the case? It looks way too small for it.

Please be good, please be good, please be good...

Also, I wonder if they'll actually manage to put Sonic 3 on this thing with the supposed music copyright issues.

Sega needs to bite the bullet and just patch the game to change elements with any potential legal issues. They've done the same for Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi Arcade already before so it's not even new ground for them and M2.
