Code Vein is what you get when you try to clone something without understanding a single thing about what made the original thing popular
Isn't Shift Code Vein's developer? They are pretty damn good at making a clone without understanding anything about the original they are making a copy of!

Jokes aside, I can kinda see Code Vein doing decently. I think there is a hefty audience for edgy anime games, especially on PC, and it being another Soulslike game, no matter its looks, will definitely attract the most hardcore of the fanbase that plays pretty much anything that resembles Dark Souls.

I expect it to sell about what a mainline Tales game sells worldwide which will most probably lead to Bamco greenliting a sequel with 1/3 of the budget instantly.

Snipperclips - 2017
1-2 Switch - 2017
ARMS - 2017
Sushi Striker - 2018
Nintendo Labo - 2018

5 new IPs.

While the Switch is similar to their other home consoles, the company is generally making less IP than when they had two systems. Of course I know about production costs being higher and etc, but I think at the end of the day you'll get a more streamlined number of releases that keep aiming more and more to core western gamers. Feels like they're developing less smaller/casual games and letting indies fill that space.

I didn't say this is making Nintendo lose power in Japan (even though I think they needed a bit more of casual focus), just that it's part of the movement of japanese console game devs focusing more in the west than the shrinking market of Japan.

Nintendo's advantage is that their biggest IPs are beloved and mainstream in their home country, while the same can't be said about Sony's IPs, more AAA focused and that get hit even harder by being on home systems only.
Astral chain adds to the pile btw, I also dont think it's too fair to separate the switch and WiiU for new IPs

In general Nintendo doesn't get enough credit for that. There were jokes about how many anime games there were in the direct but I think it's a good thing that Nintendo is more willing to push games like DQXIS, Fire Emblem, Daemon x Machina and Astral Chain.
i think the only reason these games didn't sell like in the 7th and early 8th gen is because they werent getting pushed enough, and now they are back to getting pushed again publishers are suddenly finding out that the west never stopped liking japanese games.

Word of mouth has already killed Jump Force hype. Even the tiny legs that were expected could not happen.

I find it strange to say that Nintendo is not pushing Japanese games enough when Dragon Quest XI has already received more time and exposure than Wolfenstein 2 and Doom together.

March will be a tough month for many games.
Dead or Alive 6
Devil May Cry 5
Tom Clancy's The Division 2
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - Prologue
Blade Arcus Rebellion from Shining
Destiny Connect
One Piece: World Seeker
___

Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland
Super Robot Wars T
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Things for first group don't look good so far and for some of them isn't turnaround.

Second group is still a question mark.

So when do we expect Yokai-Watch 4 to ship. Will the game release before Mario Maker 2? The second half of 2019 is already packed with blockbusters. Officially Yokai-Watch is releasing in spring. So i assume this is a may game because this is the latest possible month in spring. This would only leave february and april without major releases. In april there are the Final Fantasy games releasing but i don't know their sales potential. If Yokai-Watch does indeed release in may H1 is very strong and not weak as many say.

January: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Deluxe
March: Yoshi's Crafted World
April: Super Dragon Ball Heroes*, Final Fantasy X/X2/XII
May: Yokai-Watch 4
June: Mario Maker 2

Super Dragon Ball Heroes is the big April game in Japan. 3DS entries sold 200 to 300k LTD.

If it doesn't release before Golden Week, I kind of expect it in the first two weeks of July like all the other mainline Yokai Watch games.

I was only adding IPs released in the first two years for the consoles (where we're currently at in the Switch's lifetime).

The Daemon x Machina demo has "© 2019 Nintendo, Marvelous Inc." in the title screen.

Marvelous holds the trademark alone. The official site even has only © 2019 Marvelous too.

Not gonna lie. Astral Chain kinda looks like the Code Vein like game I would wanna play with the sorta similar visual styles. I think Code Vein is coming out too late to really have an impact. It does have coop right?

Don't have a ton of experience with the genre since I've disliked all the games I've tried in it, but DxM is a Hunter game, right?
Is that what armored core was?

Was honestly expecting more of a mech action game. Not exactly sure the impact the demo will have, probably lots of negative feedback but it doesn't sound like they have enough time to fix too much?

Think Nintendo might regret funding this one, but who knows. Would've probably gone for something more visually similar to MH if they wanted to fill the gap myself.

You can't really see anything in DXM and the game is way too slow and the shooting feels like garbage and the framerate is less than 30 even though it should be 60.

Other than those 4 major issues though, looking pretty good.

Didn't notice too much with the frame rate, but only played up to the third mission.
Shooting is shockingly not good. The sound mixing being bad in general doesn't help, but there's basically no feedback. They need to either make the shots much louder or record new sound effects.

no. I mean, if you squint, I guess? but DxM follows in the footsteps of the AC series which predates MH

nearly 500k for dragons dogma is pretty surprising

It will do though I don't think it will reach the 250k+ mark previous 3DS entries got. Or maybe it will in the long-run.

DB is popular; Switch is popular; DB on Switch is popular; release window is good.
these two thoughts contradict each other

if u think its popular then clearing 250k should be a given

Not really as 3DS was way more popular, at least in terms of installed base ;)

What Heroes games benefitted on 3DS might be a bit lacking on Switch, that is very young gamers.

The game will be successful? Yes.
The game will be as successful as 3DS entries? A bit hard to say at the moment.

Well, Kirby is going to do better on Switch than 3DS despite similar audience "woes", so I don't think it's an issue myself. I expect the Switch game of DB Heroes to do better than the 3ds game.

It took and extended rerelease to achieve that though.

Honest question btw as I didn't play the game but how fair is it to combine the sales of the original SKU and Dark Arisen compared to, for example, a Monster Hunter extended rerelease ?
Is there a notable difference in term of content between the two aforementioned examples (DD -> DD:DA, MH"X"->MH"X"U) which explain why it's ok for the former but not the latter ? Or is it because DA is seen as cheaper budget rerelease ? (5k vs 8ky)

If Iceborne happened to have less additional content that 3U XX or 4U and is closer to what Dark Arisen did (which I assume has a lower additional value) both in content and pricing, should we combine it with MHW? If so where do we draw the line?

I'm sure there's no clear cut answer there, akin to the port/remaster/remake discussion, but as I lack knowledge on the case of DD I would be curious if I'm missing something important or not.

most switch games that have a moderatly popular brand attached have sold more than predecessors, how big the installbase doesnt matter much at this point

The DxM demo confirmed what I've been thinking from the moment the game was released: it does not seem like a good video game. At all. I predict that it'll bomb. The problems of the game go way beyond the sad framerate, the lack of gyro and the poor shooting experience and I doubt those will be fixed before release. 2019 is now packed enough so it doesn't matter anyway.

"Anthem debuted at 1st place. It gets high sales nationwide because it is an overseas open world multiplayer action RPG. At GEO, we were able to sell at maximum power by doing launch campaign including original benefits.

In addition, NieR: Automata - Game of the YoRHa Edition ranked 4th. This is a special edition with added DLC and various benefits etc to the main part of NieR: Automata which was released in 2017 and recorded sales over 3,5m worldwide. It can also be predicted that NieR: Automata - Game of the YoRHa Edition will attract new users and is likely to sell in the long run."

With the other releases you can purchase DLC individually, and that's what majority of those who owned the main games did. This doesn't inflate numbers and limits double dippers almost to zero.

With Monster Honter G rank it is either buying the original game again or not buying at all.

This will show at sales if MHW expansion gets a physical release with full content.

IIRC there wasn't a DLC option for Dark Arisen either. To get the expanded content you needed to purchase the new SKU.

So Dark Arisen was available as DLC for original users?
Guess that's the info I was missing then, thanks.

No, it wasn't. The original DD had DLC, which in turn was included in DA the following year, but DA also had considerable amounts of exclusive content that owners of the original version couldn't access with DLC.

Therefore, MH and DD are comparable examples, whereas RE5 largely isn't.

If Dark Arisen had big amount of extra content, Yakuza 4 takes its place.

[PS3] Yakuza 4 <ADV> (Sega) {2010.03.18} (¥7.600) - 582.889
[PS3] Yakuza 4 [1][PlayStation 3 the Best] <ADV> (Sega) {2011.01.20} (¥3.800) - 54.443
[PS3] Yakuza 4 [2][PlayStation 3 the Best] <ADV> (Sega) {2011.12.01} (¥2.800) - 53.159
Total - 690.491

There was a number of retailers that moved into price drops for KH3 last week.

Oh ok, small mistake I assume.

I guess the difference is the pricing then? Dark Arisen was significantly cheaper than the original release while Monster Ultimate releases cost the same as the original titles.
It's kind of an extended budget rerelease, are there many other examples like this or is Dragon's Dogma the odd one?

The DxM demo confirmed what I've been thinking from the moment the game was released: it does not seem like a good video game. At all. I predict that it'll bomb. The problems of the game go way beyond the sad framerate, the lack of gyro and the poor shooting experience and I doubt those will be fixed before release. 2019 is now packed enough so it doesn't matter anyway.

Not a good video game wut? It bring that wonderful Armored Core Experience lol. And this is still damn early and we are already fighting gigantic mobile Arsenal which bring tons of depth. I cant wait when we face even crazier Rampaging A.I in mobile armor or even mobile fortress.

While there is of course rough all around the edges, there is a reason why they asked for feedback lol.

Guess we are seeing another FFXV huh.

DxM, at least in Japan, is getting a pretty good reception so I don't know where this talk of the game being bad is coming from.
The demo is still in the early build and the devs are asking for feedback to improve, and the complaints about the game speed is unfounded too since its dependent on the customization.
Regarding its sales potential, Armored Core series were never a good seller, so that's gonna be interesting to see.
