Famitsu is 200k off with Smash digital, and this with Nintendo giving eShop numbers. The joke continues.

Talking out of my ass, but I'd say Ace Combat is not even close to AAA game. The amount of assets and animation is way less than modern AAA games.

Bamco do many things, over budgeting their games is not one of them.

Not gonna lie, its pretty cool that Monster Hunter fans showed up for MH:W. They complained a LOT about not getting HD entries and how the handhelds kept getting them. At least they stayed true to their request and bought the hell out of MH:W when it came out.

KH3 has shipped 5m copies already and yes the US is basically KH home

Oh hells yeah, now that sounds more like it.

Smash is 3.17m (I think), it's Splatoon 2 that is at 3.33m.
Check page 5 of this presentation: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2019/190201_2e.pdf

The number is as of Week 8 (week 4 in the CY), mind you. Just subtracting the units sold from the end of december until that number, we have a sell-through of 2.91M, which includes retail up to the end of December, and digital up to and including the 4th week of January. This leaves 545k units for digital in December and January. Famitsu have 309k for December, so either January was massive for digital (probably not), or Famitsu is way off the mark. Most likely the latter. They could be as much as 200k off the mark, depending on what they project for January (inb4 january has 250k units sold digitally).

Edit: Chris narrows it down even further for us:
Nintendo said Ultimate became the best selling Smash by week 4. Smash for 3DS LTD is 2.880.000.

Even if they rounded numbers a bit that gives at least 500k digital for Ultimate in December.
So yeah, 200k difference between Famitsu and reality.

Famitsu Sales: CY 2018 (2018 Jan 01 - 2018 Dec 30) - Physical + Digital Estimates

01./00. [PS4] Monster Hunter: World # <ACT> (Capcom) {2018.01.26} (¥8.980) - 2.811.563 / NEW
02./00. [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate # <FTG> (Nintendo) {2018.12.07} (¥7.200) - 2.669.884 / NEW
If it makes you feel good, great, but reality (as opposed to Famitsu's "data") is different:
2018 eShop sales for games with physical release

01. [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (ε) _Nintendo eShop Download Version_ |DL| <FTG> (Nintendo) {2018.12.07} (¥7.200) - 3.170.000 / 2.614.960 [555.000 / 18%]
It is very telling that for Famitsu data, you say "any data is better than no data", yet when we have far more reliable data (based on actual Nintendo numbers!) you still prefer the Famitsu data.

What? I never said that. The witchhunt is really strong here.
That number you quoted is shipped. I don't think you can infer digital sales without knowing how many copies are on shelves.

Any information is good information. It's the interpretation of that information that can be flawed.

I'm talking about Ultimate outselling 4 3DS after 4 weeks of release.
Page 5 of this document: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2019/190201_2e.pdf

Nintendo said:
This chart shows the Japanese sell-through of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from the time of its release up to the present. Within only 4 weeks from its release, this title exceeded the lifetime sell-through of the title with then greatest sell-through in the series to achieve the highest sell-through ever.

Those are Nintendo's own numbers. Calculations show that digital must be over 500k, since Smash Ultimate was at 2360k retail only by the end of december, and Smash 3DS was at 2880k lifetime.

I think they mean what is said on page 5:
"Within only 4 weeks from its release, this title exceeded the lifetime sell-through of the title with then greatest sell-through in the series to achieve the highest sell-through ever."

The graphic mentions they used media-create + digital sales as source. MC was at 2,355 million after 4 weeks.
Hmm interesting thanks. But if it did 525k in month 1 then it did only 30k in month 2 and that's pretty questionable.

Nintendo's own data about their online sales are questionable Famitsu estimates are the golden standard.

It had very early pre-load access with a double gold coins promotion, so the bulk of digital sales probably happened on day 1.
These numbers are rounded to 10k and could be a few k off during the compression of graphs.

But who can trust Nintendo's own numbers when we have Famitsu estimates.

Compared to last year, we have two major titles doing considerably better than Splat 2 & Mario+Rabbids. While the real story is the titles that are adding to the tally lower in the rankings
It will be interesting how hardware performs next week for the Switch, will the bundle effect be a short term boost or a long term accelerator compared to 2018.
