Biggest question for Nintendo 64 Mini was and remains what happens with Rare. Nintendo has the games to replenish almost everything else from them but GoldenEye is a game that defined an entire generation.

Event with Rare, GoldenEye would be a pain in the butt since it's a license game.

Man, Nippon Ichi's Destiny Connect looks really cool! They released a new trailer today. The game will cost 7200 yen + tax, and it is coming out on 14 March 2019 for PS4 and Switch.

What do we think of its market appeal in Japan? Will it appeal to a wider audience than the things NIS put out in the last couple of years? They seem to be targetting a younger audience (more like 10-12 y/os) with its clean, kind of western CG art style, and the game has a CERO A rating. However, do the story, characters, and gameplay? Or could it perhaps be better-suited to the usual adolescent demographic NIS used to aim for?

I'd love to hear thoughts. I hope this game will be good and have Coven-like success (70k+ LTD sales in Japan on its initial launch platforms).

A good rule of thumb is to never expect anything from NIS sales wise and then be pleasantly surprised when they release a Coven or Yomawari.

That said, I can't see this one doing anything at all. They releases that Hachi-something Works game ages ago that looked to have some moderate mainstream appeal, which went on to uberbomb. And none of their PS4/Switch releases seem to have done anything to write home about in Japan.

Maybe they'll throw some advertising behind it and I'll be wrong. Hope so.

Although I think the Virtual Console will have done wonders for the legacy of the Nintendo 64, if there is a chance that a Mini Classic wouldn't sell quite as well as the others (which I don't think would dramatically be the case), I wonder if Nintendo would try to combat this with multiple colours for both the system package (with 1 controller) and for the separate controllers (which could also come in a 3 pack), as a way to bolster sales from the collectors for whom these releases obviously already appeal to.

Getting Goldeneye would boost this thing's charge immeasurably, but on a selfish note I just want Diddy Kong Racing. If they do include Goldeneye, I hope they troll us and reveal it right at the end just as it seems the trailer has finished.

Disk drive versions of OoT and F-Zero would be nice bonuses. Perhaps they could even translate Animal Forrest as the Star Fox 2 type surprise.

Apparently Hakoniwa Company Works wasn't a good game. And that was PS4 exclusive, and the audience of the PS4 is of course older than the Switch. But I'm afraid you're right about expectation management. At least The Liar Princess And The Blind Prince had a decent FW, at 17.418 combined sales, according to Famitsu. That's one to follow when the CY 2018 list comes out next year.

If you're going to say something along the lines of "Bamco should have known when to stop making MonHun clones when the real deal is already on the system" you can't exactly ask people to not engage you with that claim.

Otherwise what would be the point of beeing on a discussion board

Now you can either back up your claim and explain why Monster Hunter World beeing on PS4 means there's no market for God Eater 3 or you can act all offended and not engage.

I know that this is the internet where every single sentence is seen as a gauntlet thrown to the ground, ready to be picked up and picked apart so people can force an argument but I am kinda scratching my head here at what exactly your aim is. Me saying that I see no point in making that distinction between their "strategy" and their "execution" was me being polite, not an invitation for you to double down with an argument based on a technicality that I find to be extremely irrelevant and inconsequential considering the situation at hand.

I already told you that trying to appeal to the MHW fanbase with significantly inferior or less appealing products (like God Eater 3) doesn't seem to yield the wanted results, making this decidedly different from the state of the hunting action genre on the PSP or your example with Call of Duty and Battlefield. No, releasing a MH-clone on PS4 isn't inherently a bad idea but it also wasn't my initial claim. I was specifically talking about GE3 in my very first reply to another poster who said that it had failed to garner excitement. The series has carried its influence on its sleeve from the beginning but while it used to be a viable alternative and/or complementary to Monster Hunter, it is now just similar but worse. It seems obvious to me that the UBP of a hunting action game on a home console is significantly weakened by the extreme gulf in quality to the market leader. Yet you keep insisting on a separation between what the game set out to be and what it actually is when I have no interest in the former. I know that the entire crux of your argument hinges on looking at the nebulous concept of GE3 in isolation but outside of context this only yields fruitless discussion. It's like saying "he shat his pants but he was trying to cure cancer so at least his strategy was sound". I mean, what is there to engage with? You got your answer but you keep going.

We've no idea if Destiny Connect will be a good game or not though. Hakoniwa looked fine before launch too :P

And yep, it was PS4 exclusive, but PS4 is one of the platforms here too! It's a lot to ask Switch to do all the heavy lifting when it's been hit and miss for smaller games like this so far.

Like I say, hope it does well, because it looks nice and I like NIS.

Goldeneye 007 seems to be a legal nightmare to get in in a supposed N64 mini since there's Rare, Microsoft and Columbia Pictures.

The various rights being split up between so many companies is supposedly what initially killed GoldenEye 007 HD on XBLA. Those companies could potentially come together and make it happen if they wanted to but the question is if it would be worth it financially.

Yeah, I agree with you. I want to see NIS succeed though. I have a small soft spot for them.

I didn't say that. I said the next 3 weeks should be higher then the last 3 weeks of last year.

And even that, with the current promotion, is not totally impossible. PS4 2018 is 120 k behind 2017, it would have to do something like 75 K, 100K , 75 K. Last week did 75K, so I think its possible.
The user made a low effort response, not the first time towards PS4 numbers. In NPD November was negative YoY it was dificult to him to accept that PS4 is Positive YoY. Some of us have preferences, mine is PS4/Sony, but some effort to contain our inside fan is appreciated.

I dont think those numbers would be enough.

Nocturnal wrote up this earlier in the thread:

Week 50: 62.965 | PS4 Pro 17.804 | PS4 45.161
Week 51: 67.257 | PS4 Pro 16.595 | PS4 50.662
Week 52: 49.631 | PS4 Pro 12.456 | PS4 37.175

The promotion is certainly good enough to improve upon these numbers but doubt they can improve with 120k. But who knows, stranger things have happened =)

You are right. I make a mistake and look to the wrong table. I was making mat with numbers from this board, and this is PS3 numbers!!

With the correct numbers is almost impossible to be positive YoY. But will be close.

The promotion at least proves that there's still life in the PS4, they just need to lower that damn price.

For this threads I know that promotions games/Consoles are more complicated in Japan, and with games at cost of the retailers, but in Europe (and sometimes USA) sony is much more aggressive with prices. Every Holidays, blackfriday, sony reduces temporarily PS4 and First party games. Now its possible to buy a PS4 for 199 € the launch price was 399.
What is the diference with the actual PS4 price in the promotion and the launch price?

I knew I recognised him somewhere. So it was him from the NPD thread. Yeah it was a very low effort and lazy post. You'd think you'd make sure you know what you're talking about before openly mocking somebody.

Figures are biased because of holidays. Also it's a price cut + free games.
Well yes, it's having a good holiday (so far, we'll see if it's really up WoW) because of that price cuts. Without it it would probably have been a disaster. But it shows that it still has the potential for good sales at a lower price.

I don't think that Golden Eye aged very well. It was big at it's time but is outdated today. In addition Nintendo could put Donkey Kong 64 as representation for the Rare games on the N64 Mini. The bigger questionmark is Nintedos online service because it is the successor for the virtual console. Nintendo stated they want to end the classic editions after the holidays. And i have the impression Nintendo never intended such a long life for the classic consoles. They were meant as a stopgap product during the transition to the switch.
The production of the NES Classic was resumed after high demand.
Don't think it matters how the game is today.

Just having it on the box would create a ton of buzz. It would be big news if Golden Eyes was on a Mini 64.

Hitman 2 has joined the club too and Red Dead Redemption 2 is one step before. Fallout 76 escaped because retailers started with low shipments.

Things didn't turn well for most western titles this quarter.

At least we have Black Ops 4 pulling in high numbers to make up for the other western failures. Activision was really quite strapped.
