What is the record (units and rev)? 09 Wii I'm guessing?

Whatever it is, 04 21 - 03 22 will eclipse it for sure, regardless of what this current FY pulls off.

I honestly have no idea.

I'm not sure 2021-2022 would be higher, considering we have no idea what kind of software they're releasing this coming year. Remember their revenue for third party games is much lower per unit than first part, and they're about to sell ~30-35 copies of ACNH alone at full price, not to mention all of the other evergreens.

Next FY might do better with some evergreens though, so we'll have to see what the release slate looks like to be sure.

CY or FY? If a system releases at November/December and that month counts as the first full year it gives the illusion of later peak comparing to a release outside holidays. FY covers all bases.

CY, Famitsu, I agree with your statement but FY can be biased too depending on the hardware release date.
In any case it doesn't change the big picture for the 3 hardware mentioned

So I went and check
  • PSP peaked in his 5th year as it was basically revitalized by Monster Hunter.
  • PS4 (if it's considered a success) peaked in his 3rd-4th year
  • PS3(if it's considered a success) peaked in his 4th year after a disastrous launch
  • PS2 peaked in his 2nd year
  • PS1 peaked in his 4th year

I don't think any other platform can be considered "successful"
I fail to see how "always" apply
I fail to see any common pattern between these and the Switch
The 3 real "success" as hardware peaked in their 4th , 2nd and 5th year in a chronological order and PSP was a big anomaly due to Monster Hunter

I have no clue why you made this statement, why you didn't check data that are easily available, and what your point even is trying to say that.

dont these data proves my point? there's also the xbox 360 (worldwide) in 2010.

I mean I dont see how this trend is irregular. certainly doesnt happen everytime but the switch was always going to grow year over year.

Well to be fair Mochizuki said that some his sources expressed concern about Nintendo being dominant.
Maybe the bosses of those sources will make them work on the Switch version of games. "The horror." But really, is not Nintendo or Japanese people's fault that Sony isn't making a product that they want.

unless Nintendo is coming over to break their knees, if their concern is simply because Playstation is failing to cater to the market, then mayhaps a pivot on their side is in order

I find this interesting and when looking at the Wii (peaked FY2 I believe) and the DS (peaked FY4 or 5 I believe) the Switch is showing a later peaking potential. Switch may have the potential to peak later.

If I looked at it correctly, the 3ds peaked FY3, Wii U peaked FY1.... anyway the GBA, GB/C, GCN and N64 I don't have access to that data on a year by year basis. :(

Edit: saw that you referred to CY and not the FY. Wii peaked CY3/FY2 I believe, and I found the other data. But not for the portables like GBA and GB/C, I'm assuming statista is as close to accurate as possible.

N64= CY2
GCN= CY2
Wii= CY3
Wii U= CY1
NS= TBD

If I understand it correctly, FY is a number less than the calendar year because of when Nintendo's fiscal year starts? Except for the Wii U and the NS at the moment, I'm going to assume the FY peak for them to be: FY1, FY1, FY2, FY1 and TBD for the platforms respectively.

If I did it wrong please correct me.

I do agree we should slow down with repeating the same jokes over and over, these threads don't need them nearly as much as they are right now.
These are not the jokes we need right now, but the jokes we deserve.

Anyway, Series S/X tripled its sales WoW, WOW! If these trends continue... discostu.jpg

Love these graphs. Hiska-Kun!

So, he 3DS is close to be overtaken, next stop DS (although that is a mountain the Switch might not have the duration to climb).
I hope NSW can build up a lead so it will be above YOY to 2020 by the week Animal Crossing was released. I don't see that Monster Hunter week > Animal Crossing week

Persona 3 and 4, Etrian Odyssey anything, just ANYTHING.
EO Next is in development, probably also on Switch and also on UE4 - at leasts what i assume. Next up they have Fantasy RPG for PS4/PS5.

On Persona i dont know if they will be able to go with non-Sony system for Remasters - going by P4G it doesnt looks like it but i can see Sony being cool with the Remasters being also on Switch as long as P6 is an exclusive. Time will tell either way until at least on Switch things will pick up speed once SMT V has been released.

Things already picked up last year. They released 3 Switch games in 2020.

Are there any receipts on this idea that Sony has a say in what Persona games go where? I hear both sides of the argument but its crazy to me that a deal would exist privately like this.

I don't think anyone realistically expects it to do AC numbers that easily. Not sure if this is a controversial take, but despite selling 3 million more as a series and having more games, Animal Crossing is a stronger brand than MH world wide, especially in japan.

Maybe the bosses of those sources will make them work on the Switch version of games. "The horror." But really, is not Nintendo or Japanese people's fault that Sony isn't making a product that they want.
Well of course, sucks for those who are adamant about sticking to making PS exclusives and refuse to adapt. A problem of their own creation though not the fault of the market
Yamauchi reign of Terror die hard
unless Nintendo is coming over to break their knees, if their concern is simply because Playstation is failing to cater to the market, then mayhaps a pivot on their side is in order

Hey, I never said it made sense. Just pointing out that the "concern" isn't isolated to Era threads.

There is no monopoly. People are simply choosing not to buy the PS5 because it's not an appealing product.

This post his made on a alt reality that PS5 are taking dust on Shelves?

I am not saying if there was stock the PS5 would be selling tons of consoles on Japan, but let's not pretend that PS5 (and Xbox) are available on stores waiting for customers. In Japan or elsewhere..
