Might as well rename this the comg thread for when Famitsu inevitably follow. And their numbers aren't estimates so they're the ultimate tracker!

I'm talking across that genre in general not just switch games.
Hmm

I'm not actually sure how you would make this comparison

Animal Crossing's visual style and something like, say, Crash Bandicoot are both "cartoony" but completely different

I guess technically Crash would have more complex environments and geometry by virtue of being designed for PS4 but it's an apples to oranges comparison, I'd still say it shows that Animal Crossing has a much bigger budget than Crash despite that

Let's not have an actual earnest discussion about "best in class cartoon games" in Media Create, lads.

Nintendo kind of sets the bar for "cartoon game" visuals because no other big publisher is putting a big budget into family-oriented games. Stuff like Sonic and Crash Bandicoot are definitely not AAA, as evidenced by being below full price.

I did wonder if this week was going to be counted as March or April.

Well then, it will be interesting to see how Nintendo will play this year.

Nintendo sent Animal Crossing and Switch shipments to retailers at 31 March. These are the last that will be counted for last fiscal year.

I lurk both the Media Create topics on here and on gameFAQs (not sure if I am allowed to bring up that website here) and the differences are very interesting. Here we got a lot more data to look at (kudos to all the users who consistently post data and news) and the discussion is nonchalant even at its most contentious and on gamefaqs you have one funny guy named 'SonytheBest' or something like that who always shows up ironically praising Nintendo and bashing Sony. Quite the oddities over there, so I am more comfortable posting here haha.

PS3 Vs. PS4 physical software visualized. 2006 to 2013 is Famitsu and 2014 to 2019 is Media Create. 2019 is an estimate of what PS4 sold and not far from reality. PS3 maintained good sales at its late years benefiting from quich death of Wii and increasing third party support.

Glad to hear that this community provide interesting thoughts, data, and discussion. :)

New Horizons launch feels like a second Switch launch.
Same, like the Switch launch but even bigger haha

Next shipment for Animal Crossing in Amazon.jp is set for 15th April, more than ten days later. Thus the Download code of the game is now outselling the physical version.

Final Fantasy VII is also taking advantage and jumped to first position outselling AC for the first time since the game appeared.

Pokémon is the definition (in Japan) if front loaded sales. That said SWSH will be different, I can see them passing the others quite easily.

It sold 540k+ This quarter so shipments should be Over 100k, so I'll say 200k (none have got 100k in the past 10 years)

These pictures of Switch/Animal Crossing demand three weeks out from the game's launch remind me of the DS situation. Animal Crossing may be that catalyst in Japan. I knew it was going to push units but not at this volume. It is bringing in a new audience.

It will be interesting to see how Brain Training and Clubhouse Games perform over the next few months. If they can ever ramp up production on RingFit that could see monstrous sales too.

It's time to release…the Nintendogs.
