What an absurd thing to say.
What was absurd in my post?
That the Demon Slayer franchise was at its peak in popularity from December 2019 to February/March 2020, and that it won't reach those highs again?
Or that the Switch in 2020 is a stronger console for a third-party anime game than the PS4 in 2021?
Both of those are undeniably true.

As for the numbers, yeah maybe they aren't exact. For the 300k one, I just considered it would do a bit better than the first Attack on Titan game (Humanity in Chains) which is a bit under 300k in 13 months. The game came out on 3DS a few months after the franchise's peak in popularity. Considering that Demon Slayer is currently more popular than Attack on Titan has ever been, I thought it made sense.
For the 100k one I simply considered it unrealistic for the game to sell better than that My Hero Academia game that came out in 2018 (on both PS4 and Switch)

300k would never happen and there are no Switch games which performance you can back your statement with. And you said 300k "easily" so why is a game that came out on a different system and never reached 300k a good example?
And a 2021 PS4 game is also playable on the PS5.

Of course there is no precedent, no anime franchise has reached this level in popularity since the Switch came out (since ever? we can't know since we didn't have precise numbers before 2009.), we don't know the effect this popularity could have on the game's sales
And you said 300k "easily" so why is a game that came out on a different system and never reached 300k a good example?
It did reach 400k with a rerelease on the 3DS (so on the same system) a year later. Though the rerelease had to boost its sales a little, its safe to say the game would have reached 300k anyway. But, yeah, maybe it was exaggerated to say "easily"
And a 2021 PS4 game is also playable on the PS5.
Let's not act like the PS5 will be anything close to relevant whenever this game comes out in 2021

the subject is how the game will perform on switch v PS4. Do you disagree with my statement?
The game will not perform on Switch because it's not coming out on Switch. That's not the argument.
The argument is the hypothetical scenario where the game would come out today on Switch and how much it would do. And since you believe it would do 300k easily (since you chose to contest me instead of the person I replied to) maybe that's what you should be explaining instead.

lol knock it off. I don't believe it would necessarily do 300k. I do think it would easily do better on Switch and its a poor business decision to release it PS4 only. We could argue that if you want, or you could continue to chase the 300K boogyman and avoid the main thrust of the discussion.

Well that's not what I replied to so really you're the one avoiding the discussion. But that's my bad I should have known better and not replied to you in the first place.

Yup, or at the very least they didn't correct that assumption from interviewers.

www.gamespot.com

Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom Could Be Taking The 'J' Out Of JRPG

We saw Ni no Kuni II in action, and spoke to Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino about the direction Level-5 is taking with the critically acclaimed series.

Also in terms of wonky accounting we should probably shout out any market analysis which talks about the resurgence of home consoles in Japan off the back of the Switch.
Couldnt that be a seperate part , only being mentioned in the article (as in not being mentioned in the interview)? I dont know where they got the 1.9 million number from though.

The time for Animal Crossing to explode at west too has come.

It's not unlikely Nintendo will give PR for first week WW sales.

Nintendo just created another 20m hit just by sticking to an IP and make smart decisions on how to improve or innovate. Being persistent and patient is a good thing. I think some companies should look at these examples and take notes.

Like, we all knew AC was gonna sell well on switch, like potential 20 mil seller, but with this quarantine and people hyping it up as THE stress relief game during it, I'm kinda scared at the momentum monster Nintendo created

Releasing a PS4 game in 2021 is so questionable lol. Even if the game is playable on PS5 it will still be a PS4 game.

Animal Crossing is going to feast.

The first game for a popular manga can sometimes do very well. If CC2 can avoid controversy like it got into with the F2P mechanics in JJBA All-Star Battle then I see this game doing very well.

This will be the most interesting thing to watch out for ACNH.
AC in Japan is a given since the series have more or less already maximized its performance in that market.
In the west though it has room to grow even more especially on NSW which is performing well in abroad markets and is the first popular Nintendo console with a strong digital adoption.

ACNL had almost 50% of its sales recorded in Japan which is unusually high, think what would happen if the percentage for ACNH will fall more in line with other Nintendo's properties.

A lot of demon slayer's game sales in 2021 will depend on timing. Will it come out close to the anime? Will the manga still be ongoing by then? Will it still be as popular?

It's unfortunate that the game's release date feels like they are playing catch-up with the popularity given the series didn't even get super popular till after the anime.

I don't think anyone expected it to be as big as it is. I'm just glad they are treating it with care. It could have just as easily gone to Bamco where they would have contracted Spike Chunsoft to make more shovelware like a Hero Nobody Knows.

PS4 - 7

Total: 2076 (+1726 WoW)

Animal Crossing has over 90% of the points this week.
And as already stated bigger week on COMG than any Switch title.

You can even combine Smash (1842) and SwordShields (1821) first two weeks and they are still behind in points.

Dengeki Online Sales: Week 11, 2020 (Mar 09 - Mar 15)

02./01. [NSW] Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX (Pokemon Co.) {2020.03.06} - 46,367 / 184,843
Will this spark a slew of classic remakes? Link's Awakening didn't do too badly, and this is exceeding expectations.

03./00. [NSW] My Hero: One's Justice 2 (Bandai Namco Games) {2020.03.12} - 18,250 / NEW
11./00. [PS4] My Hero: One's Justice 2 (Bandai Namco Games) {2020.03.12} - 6,375 / NEW

Wow. Chris was right when he said it'd be 3x higher on Switch. The drop next week will be interesting. Can the Switch version follow the longer legs trend of most PS4-Switch releases?

08./06. [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo) {2019.10.18} - 9,029 / 687,470
18./17. [NSW] Luigi's Mansion 3 (Nintendo) {2019.10.31} - 4,312 / 618,454
RFA held back by stock shortages, possibly set to get a boost by the time Golden Week rolls around? It would make sense to stockpile enough to give it a good kick come the strong sales period. As for LM3... I thought the multiplayer pack DLC might have boosted it, but it's just not taking off, which is a crying shame as it's amazing. Hopefully, word of mouth will keep it going to at least surpass LM2's sales eventually.

09./00. [PS4] Winning Post 9 2020 (Koei Tecmo) {2020.03.12} - 8,206 / NEW
14./00. [NSW] Winning Post 9 2020 (Koei Tecmo) {2020.03.12} - 5,365 / NEW

Slightly stronger than the last Switch version, heavily down on PS4, right?

15./10. [NSW] Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training for Nintendo Switch (Nintendo) {2019.12.27} - 5,112 / 172,868
The free update and championship mode keeping this alive. Considering its lack of hype pre-release, and talk of doom in these threads, it's managing to hold its own quite nicely. Well done, Kawashima-san!

17./14. [NSW] Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games: Tokyo 2020 (Sega) {2019.11.01} - 4,628 / 301,236
With the Olympics being talked about so much at the moment, this is getting good, free advertising. Delay, no delay? Either way, it's keeping the Olympics in people's minds and helping keep this game's legs quite strong.

20./12. [NSW] Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix (Sega) {2020.02.13} - 4,067 / 79,977
Speaking of legs... this might have a chance at hitting 200,000-250,000 when all's said and done. Amazing result, and hopefully enough to encourage some updates/DLC, perhaps?

16./16. [NSW] Super Mario Maker 2 (Nintendo) {2019.06.28} - 4,806 / 828,431
21./18. [NSW] New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (Nintendo) {2019.01.11} - 3,835 / 827,207
Mario vs. Mario... quite the battle indeed! Did NSMBUD get any sort of update? I know SMM2 has had extra content, but wasn't sure if the Wii U port did, as well.

22./07. [PS4] Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers (Atlus) {2020.02.20} - 3,725 / 153,659
24./15. [NSW] Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers (Atlus) {2020.02.20} - 3,100 / 68,246
Atlus, are you seeing this? If anyone doubted Switch's ability to sell what many deem Sony-based games, surely even the most hardened Nintendo haters/Sony lovers must be changing their minds.

26./00. [NSW] Just Dance 2020 (Ubisoft) {2020.03.12} - 2,740 / NEW

I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised to see this so low. Looks like retailers didn't have a lot of faith in it.

33./31. [PS4] Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2019.11.07} - 1,447 / 26,073
The game that never stops. Surprised it's not been ported, even in a stripped-back form. If it's selling so strongly on PS4 after all this time - not just in Japan, but globally - then there's no doubt it would find a foothold on other systems it's yet to grace.

38./00. [NSW] Towaware no Palm: Refrain (Capcom) {2020.03.12} - 1,292 / NEW

39./37. [NSW] Kirby Star Allies (Nintendo) {2018.03.16} - 1,282 / 821,362
40./44. [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Nintendo) {2019.09.20} - 1,254 / 257,132
43./33. [NSW] Fit Boxing (Imagineer) {2018.12.20} - 1,176 / 71,040
45./43. [NSW] Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate [Best Price] (Capcom) {2018.11.15} - 1,110 / 54,653
46./36. [NSW] Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Nintendo) {2019.07.26} - 1,088 / 311,460
48./38. [NSW] Disney Tsum Tsum Festival (Bandai Namco Games) {2019.10.10} - 1,076 / 158,030
I love watching a lot of these "under the radar" titles, bubbling along nicely.

- I do wonder if Kirby can get to a million sold, lifetime. It would take 2-3 years at this pace, though, not factoring in holiday boosts. Not impossible, but a new Kirby might kill it off.
- Fit Boxing didn't take advantage of the Ring Fit stock shortages as much as thought, but maybe retailers were wary to buy too much stock to fill the gap, just in case it backfired.
- MonHun still chugging along nicely. You do have to wonder if Capcom would be better off doing another Stories effort, revamping something like Tri from Wii, or making a World spin-off or DX/bundle version. The market's there.
- It looks like the new DLC didn't help FE quite as much as expected, but with another push it could end up reaching 400,000 at retail in the long-run.
- Anyone feel a little underwhelmed by Tsum Tsum? Personally, I felt it could have gone through the roof, being a Disney led craze. Maybe the kids market hasn't quite migrated yet.

35./54. [PS4] FIFA 20 (Electronic Arts) {2019.09.27} - 1,311 / 68,897
50./46. [NSW] FIFA 20 Legacy Edition (Electronic Arts) {2019.09.27} - 1,041 / 56,287
Looks like despite a little resurgence from the PS4 version, the Switch edition will more than likely match, if not overtake the non-legacy edition. Bodes well for FIFA 21, right? Ha...

Japan isn't the market of reference for those kind of games.
Or as Miyamoto has put it not so long ago:
If all you aim is to sell 300K in Japan then it's not worth to make games, the aim is 2M worldwide.

Holy crap AC.

I think we're looking at a >10M WW opening shipment. Digital is going to be utterly massive for this game.

Nioh 1 sold 2.5M WW on 2 platforms (they didn't expect that much), and they want Nioh 2 to sell higher.
Of course just 100k wouldn't be profitable. Pretty sure it's their biggest production, just like Ninja Gaiden was their biggest production in the past.

CyberConnect2 should be banned from making anime games if they keep refusing to make multi-platform games.
CyberConnect2, like PlatinumGames do contract work and are beholden to whoever publishes them. These decisions are all on Aniplex, just like any previous decisions are Bandai Namco's for things like Kakarot. CyberConnect2 is trying to get into self publishing and having IP of their own though, and those games are planned to be on all platforms, including Switch.

... Calm down. Yes ACNH is huge, but like... Just no.

What's so unrealistic about that? Reports show that it did absurd numbers at retail and this game will naturally skew more digital than most of Nintendo's games for a number of reasons.

By opening shipment I'm referring to physical+digital for its first month, we'll get exact figures on that in May. I think 10M+ is well within the realm of possibility given what we've heard.
