According to the story the independent body - the electoral commission - suggested to delay until autumn, i.e. 4-5 months. Or am I misunderstanding?It's an independent body who recommended it. It is the safe thing to do.

Is the rationale here that the voting papers - which are handled by many people - can effectively transmit the virus? I thought it doesn't survive on surfaces for an extended time.
Are there so few polls in elections in the UK that people gather around them in the hundreds? And if so are shopping centers and sports games and schools going to be closed for a year too?It's probably to do with a) gathering at the polls, and b) not wanting to disenfranchise the quarantined.
