Man this game is fun as hell. So far it reminds me of playing Arkham Asylum/ City for the first time. You already know you want to do every single thing in this game.
Yeah they should tone it down. Clashes with the aesthetic they have going on, kind of cartoony.
People told him the combat is different.
Not that it won't have certain things in common with Arkham \Open world games.

This new version is going to stay exclusive, Marvel are the ones who wanted the partnership with Sony in the first place.
And tieing it in with the movies would hamper what they could do with the story, its better that it's an original story.
Please god, no movie tie-in games. Let Marvel make their own Marvel Video Game Universe.

Ok, so I called my local Best Buy (PST), and they told me that they're also releasing Spider-Man at 9PM tonight.
I wasn't hot on the dive momentum and handholding pre-release. All that stuff just kind of went away once I started playing. Now it's morphed to being greedy that there aren't enough swing animations and certain swings can look a little wonky depending on what you're surrounded by. Posted impressions and a swinging video last night.
Nice! I should have pre-ordered and set my PS4 to rest most before going to work. But i imagine i won't have trouble getting it downloaded before midnight when i get off at 6.
Many people in the review thread. Alot of people take 'arkham' as an insult at this point when it is just a comparison. It's good or bad depending on what is wanted.
Just from the first hour or two, I can see many, many things that are similar to the Arkham games. The combat is very similar with the counter button. Much like Arkham you can pretty much zone out and mash square whilst waiting for the prompt to dodge/counter when a enemy is about to attack. Spiderman will automatically jump to the next enemy when you kill one. There's also alot of web zipping to vents and getting around the areas through vents. Take downs from vents etc.
I wonder how much this was a design choice from insomniac or if marvel or sony were involved in making it pretty safe like this. I usually expect insomniac to experiment with their games.
But people who like Arkham will really enjoy this game. It's certainly playable and enjoyable enough for me.

I just wish Amazon would give me the code so I can pre-load the game. They gave me the code early with God of War to do that but this one just says available on September 6 9PM PST. Such a bummer since it means I either need to stay up late tonight to start the download or do it tomorrow morning before I leave for work.
Is there a pre order bonus? Is it retailer independent? And can I still get it if I go to Gamestop today?

Have you managed to get into a rhythm with 1 arm swings? That feels the most like SM2. Certain animations have an outstretched hand so instead of jumping from that swing you let go of R2 and immediately press it again to start the swing in that open hand. Check my post history for my video on it. Once I found that style it felt way more active.

My first verdict after 6 hours with the game and 32% completion:

You really feel like a superhero.
The story missions are well paced so far and offer quite some variety. I also like the quieter sections of game.
Only the random events feel repetitive already.
Oh and it looks amazing on a PS4 Pro with downsampling on a 1080p TV.

Thanks, I will give it a try. Pretty sad I'm not enjoying it though but maybe I wouldn't enjoy Spiderman 2 anymore either. Just one of those things.
I have at the left costume unlocked ingame as well as the gadget.
Ohh, so is it confirmed that Marvel are partnered with Square Enix for another super hero game?
If you're not enjoying anything about it, it may just not be your thing anymore. That's okay, if a bit unfortunate purchase-wise.
Base console graphics and performance are pretty great. Noise on my orig PS4 has been good while ramping up on cutscenes.
