Spy x Family

There's one of two ways this can go down. Either Yor kills them all or Anya hears her and Loid gets involved. I'm not sure which I'd prefer. 🤔

I kinda want Loid to come in and go full Twilight on some pure "get the fuck away from my wife" energy, and have them simultaneously realize that the other is more than they appear as they are beating down the goons.

Rather than dragging out the whole "what happens if they find out about each other" part.

I'm really digging The Hunters Guild: Red Hood so far. Kinda surprised by the amount of Shonen stuff that I'm enjoying right now tbh.

UQ Holder.

What the hell happened to this manga. Also, its ending soon? I have no idea how they can end this in a few chapters.

Magister Negi Magi at least feel like its progressing with a plot in mind. Love Hina is still Ken Akamatsu 's best work.

The mc slept with basically his entire harem in a span of 5 chapters, the story is basically over at that point.

Today I learned that Triage X is still going. There must be a big story to keep going 23 volumes on.
Either that or Shouji Sato wants to keep drawing huge tits without going back to porn. More money in Shonen manga.

Heroes (Asano Inio)

Bunch of rag tags seal darkness, strange shit happen.
I enjoy it, but not exactly his strongest work., since it basically a cynical take about how everyone have the darkness all along, and that all it took to trigger it is a certain situation. The character design is amusing though, and the final chapter is a trip.

It feels like shonen jump is gathering quite a few series with steady popularity lately. It's been doom and gloom for the magazine with the last few years but idk they might pull through just fine. Of course with big hitters like jjk and mha winding down in the coming years maybe it's too soon to call that.

2020 is gonna be considered one of Jump's strongest years ever in terms of new series.

The system they use to get their roster is rock solid, it's proven itself after decades to be reliable and consistent at getting new hits, and yet every time they have a slow period after some big series end, it's doom o'clock as usual. Don't have to pay attention to it

Now if they'd only allow female editors to be hired.

Sasaki and Miyano vol 3

810a1s4WueS.jpg

Confession on page 17, and the rest of the volume is Miyano wrestling with the idea of "do I actually like Sasaki, or do I just admire and wish I was more like him". When I read volume 1, I thought that the structure of the manga was a bit disjointed, and chalked it up to it being a Pixiv manga, and its very obvious that the writer has improved significantly by this third volume.

Snakes with human teeth look super weird! I'm not used to seeing this come out on the regular, but it's been helping with the pacing. Only that 2nd chapter really felt out of place

World's End Harem: Britannia Lumiére 1-22 END

Well, it was nice (and a surprise!) to see a shoujo show up on Manga+, but it was also a really generic and disappointing isekai on top of it :/ Went on hiatus due to several months due to the mangaka's health, and sounds like it was not axed, but just given a "the journey continues" ending, since they were still not well and wanted to wrap it :/ That's actually pretty sad, but I'm guessing if that was the case, it's worth ending it than just leaving it open forever.

(Topic been moving slowly and didn't want to triple post buuuuut some SJ sub news)
Already has around 80 chapters out already, so I wonder how this will be released? Looks like another series with gaps until the volumes come out for sale?

*looks further* Ooooh it's a Young Jump series. More Seinen for the app? Gladly.

It'll be weird if they start with the latest chapters, and spend forever adding the older ones. Starting the "story" at chapter 80 or so. It's a Slice of Life so it's not as big of an issue as if they were to start something like Dandadan at the latest chapter and not have any of the beginning chapters.

If it's Young Jump, wonder if they'll ever try to get Kaguya or Oshi no Ko.

Kaguya's a weird one... Shows up on the app as volume purchases only. I still have no idea why they won't add these in, and I ask the same about stuff like Yu Yu Hakusho which is also listed on the app as volume purchases :/

Viz already has the rights to Kaguya. No idea why it's not on the app. Same with Real and Terra Formars (I guess both being on constant hiatus has something to do with it).
Nobody has Oshi no Ko but I could see Viz getting it.
I'd say "get Kingdom" but it's currently 62 volumes and is likely far too much to take on.
Seven Seas has 100 Girlfriends so that's a no go.

But yeah, no idea why Yu Yu Hakusho isn't on the app. I imagine with Hunter x Hunter they want to wait until it comes back. ... If it comes back.

Probably easier on everyone's work schedule to translate the new chapters as they come out while slowly working on the backlog for volume releases/big dump updates.

Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible 1-79

This is a cute series about a high school boy mob who is comically not noticed by people, except for one outgoing girl in the class (the titular Kubo) who finds interest in how little people notice him. The series is just very fluffy and the relationship feels pretty natural. Early on I was worried it'd be too much "quirky girl helps dork come out of his shell", but the female lead also has her own growth and struggles to overcome. Highly recommend people check it out when the simulpub hits.

That reminds me... weren't we supposed to get Dandandan on global Manga+ soon? Is there even an ETA?

Rereading Bleach, and... man, this is stylish. But even as early as the Soul Society arc, you can feel the things that'll eventually drag it down. Fights are a series of thinly-justified powerups. The cast keeps exploding in size, with old members continuously forced to job. And literally both of the first two big arcs (discounting the substitute reaper stuff) rely on damseling its female characters, which is a recurring thing inside of the arcs, too - women get done dirty here. But god, it's so stylish. Somebody, please, convince Kubo to be somebody else's artist, or at least character designer, because outside of a few notable overly-horny exceptions everything looks so good.

Did you also notice that the writing makes way more sense when drunk?

Says something about the process, unless it doesn't.
I have not read it drunk, but I could certainly see it. I feel like Kubo just kept contriving reasons to draw cool shit, which ok fair play - he is SO GOOD at that. But aside from the problems that ended up being issues down the road, it felt like he was out of fumes by the time he got to Fake Karakura Town... then proceeded to write a whole bunch more. lol

If you're trying to get at Kubo wrote this shit drunk, you might have a point.

Fake Karakura Town is definitely where the wheels started to come off, yeah. Even before that, you could totally see it, which surprised me - I had basically only fond memories of the series through Soul Society ending. But Fake Karakura Town highlighted the problems that were already building up. So less running out of steam and more finally running out of space to avoid Kubo's issues as a writer. Chad getting a whole fight devoted to him with not one but two lengthy powerups and then immediately going down like a sack of rocks in Hueco Mundo was sort of the inflection point between "good Bleach" and "bad Bleach" imo. But it's the same stuff the series had been dealing with since surprisingly early in its run.

And yes, that is what I was implying. It makes so much more sense this way.

Just going to accept it as fact and move on.

I reread through the ending of Soul Society, then jumped ahead and read Thousand Year Blood War for the first time last year. That was some whiplash, what a mess of a story that last arc was.

Stylish sexism. Sounds accurate.

Anyone else wish horniness and sexism would stop being equated?

Just me? Okay.

I mean, I know they're different, but "horniness" as a watchword for stuff like Halibel's design conveys the idea very effectively. I would call the way that multiple women get taken out with extreme ease only to be saved by the men sexist, but idk if the adjective immediately describes the issue with the character designs specifically like just calling them horny does? But YMMV, I guess.

Kubo has admitted that his crutch is "Make new characters when I don't know what to do".
Unfortunately, this results in a 20-character pileup where the pacing just diiiiies. I still believe that Bleach could have been cut in half and you wouldn't miss anything.
And yeah, the way Orihime is treated through the series is pretty bad. She's got godlike abilities but never uses them. Always just being a damsel or... not do anything in the final arc. Other than get an outfit that lets Yoruichi stick her arm through her cleavage.

The character problem also extends to Hunter x Hunter. Why should I care for half these goons when I know they're just going to get slaughtered? Assuming Togashi comes back...

Every stupid dumbshit fashion spread he does I absolutely love.

Also one of the few shonen series where I thought the main male and male female lead actually had chemistry (Rukia/Ichigo) and then they don't do anything with it.

I blame the anime.
Supposedly, they pushed the Ichi-Ruki pairing hard, adding moments not in the manga.
I don't mean the filler, I mean even in the canon parts, they added stuff that wasn't there.
