What is it with anime/manga fandoms and their constant cries about censorship? From the sound of their tone you'd think they're talking about some serious shit, but it's usually just about the dumbest stuff possible.

Rosario + Vampire, which they drew a bra over bare breasts in 2008 for the physical volume release (likely so retailers like B&N would approve it for stores). The only thing he did was transfer it to digital platforms and MUH CENSORSHIP
HOLY SHIT THAT MAKES IT EVEN MORE IDIOTIC

Like I thought these dumbfucks were raging over something in a new manga, but these clowns seriously misattributed something that happened more than a fucking decade ago to this man?!

the fault lies with the readers. if they haven't learned japanese and don't import all the issues then they're part of the problem and are ruining manga and driving mangakas out of the industry. if you want to end censorship you need to end translation because you can only truly appreciate drawn boobs if you can read the katakana surrounding them.

Threats of any kind are bad. But I still think it good question how much we can/should edit original work.

I read about Tor editing sexist language out from The Three-Body Problem trilogy. And editions probably made the book better but at the same time I think we lost something. Same as editing old Mark Twain books. It opens window to certain time and place in society. I think there is serious talk to have if Mark Twain is actually suitable read for young audience, considering they might not grasp the gravity of certain words.

Also original creators often don't have say how their work is edited in foreign countries. Most authors/artist don't have influence on publishers. Yet, I suspect nobody lost any sleep over the boobgate. Well, except couple of anime nerds.

I thought this was about the British comic company Viz so was very confused.

Still am actually, I recognise the words and situation but still don't understand people.

That's fucked up.
Weebs are among the worst internet population, together with neo-nazis and gamers (often there's correlation anyway)

I don't get it either. There's an endless well of uncensored and explicit anime and manga. It's arguably just as easy to find the uncensored version of censored content too. This particular Rosario Vampire manga is old as dirt. there are plenty of ways to find the uncensored version online.

It's just a weird hill to die on. Niche manga publishers aren't leading the charge of taking away anime tiddies from the world. Neither are the random video streaming services they sometimes get mad about either. If anything you'll probably see this charge coming from legislators from Japan, not online SJW boogeymen.

These kind of anime/manga fans are so disgusting. Over a decade late and harassing a black man who had nothing to even do with it. And the only "censorship" they are ever upset about is when some anime girl wears a little more clothing.

The impression I get from these people (the ones doing the complaining, not the general readership) is that they view their manga/anime as some form of high-class pornography, which would explain why they utterly and violently reject any attempt to tone it down. Looking at the frame in question, I fail to see how the addition of the bra really changes what's happening in the story.

They don't even view it as pornography. These are the people who fill their Twitter's with it, it's all they have on the book shelves with their anime titty statues in front.
Ones we wear their favorite titty images on hats and clothes and stuff.
To them it's a lifestyle, a beautiful perfect god given lifestyle.

Where are these supposed "artist integrity" fans when anime adaptions add ecchi scenes that weren't in the manga?

Surely they would be mad that an anime company added that shit just for the sake of profit?

this is all for Rosario + Vampire? as a person who actively read the series monthly (i think i even have a viz volume or two somewhere), I'm so confused that people have the energy to be mad about it now. and to tag the wrong guy too, fuck weebs are embarrassing lol

That's the hilarious thing about it, frankly; the "this has gone too far" outrage and slippery slope concern for a totalitarian censorship future over something that happened when Bush was still president.

Looking at wiki, Rosario + Vampire looks like one of those properties where all the bare-breasted girls are 500+ years old but look like teenagers in schoolgirl outfits because reasons and the art is extremely gazey otherwise.

And stupid weebs found a way to attack a person of color over a change made 12 years ago to this peerless literary classic. Well done.

I shared this story with my wife last night and she shared with me an amusing anecdote that actually falls in line with this.

She follows the BL community, and some of their fans go above and beyond in their fan translations. They go so far as to hire artists to actually draw over the censored bits during sex scenes and "add back" genitalia. If by chance the manga gets licensed, it gets released in it's ORIGINAL FORM (which remember, was censored) and some unaware fans thing it's the Muricans censoring their stuff. (Maybe some fans are aware, who knows)

Regardless, it's apparent that many people don't understand what's allowed to be drawn even in Japan and how localization works when products do start moving overseas.
