I don't keep track anywhere and my memory is shit but I think it's between 15-20 this year. I think most years maybe 12-15 though.

I've completed the 52 games a year challenge since 2017, so I'd like to think that my backlog is actually shrinking. I don't know for sure, though.

Between 2014-2017 I was averaging 52, but 2018-2020 I've only been able to muster enough enthusiasm to finish 6-10 games a year.

2014: 52 games
2015: 74 games
2016: 54 games
2017: 41 games
2018: 11 games
2019: 7 games

2020:
  1. A Short Hike --- 1 hour 30 minutes
  2. Eliza --- 6 hours
  3. Kentucky Route Zero --- 14 hours
  4. The Return of the Obra Dinn --- 8 hours
  5. The Outer Wilds --- 26 hours
  6. Super Mario Odyssey — ??? (508 moons and finished darker side of the moon)
  7. The Last of Us Part II -- 23 hours 38 minutes
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons -- 100+ hours

My goal yearly is about 50, or one a week. If I have a very social year, relationship stuff busy, etc... I sometimes end up like 30-40.

This year with Covid lockdown, my social group completely stopped and I happened to be single going into lockdown so since I have absolutely nothing to do outside work and exercise/cooking/house chores/life chores/walks/drives, I'm at 91 games this year haha. I'm hoping to hit 100 games by Dec 31st just to have a clean number.

While it was great for getting through some backlog, hopefully 2021 is a more social, fewer games year for me. This is the most videogames I've ever played in a year in my life.

Idk on average per year but I've beat 34 games and counting this year. Not really a huge issue for me

COVID definitely has me playing more games this year. I typically play 10-15 games per year, but it's going to be about 21-23 this year.

I'm anticipating quite a bit of gaming this winter with lockdowns and not many places we can go.

My games beat per year has gone done pretty steadily every year. Most of it is just due to me getting bored faster with them. Hell, 2020 a year that should probably be up there, I have beat maybe 5 or 6. In the early PS4 days for reference it was probably in the 40-50's easily.

I also play a lot of WoW off and on and when I am playing that other games get put to the side.

I started keeping track in 2014, and since then:
2014 - 37
2015 - 44
2016 - 47
2017 - 51
2018 - 56
2019 - 77
2020 so far - 70

And I'd say that ~80% of these are old games, more specifically not even 5% of the games I play in a year were from that year.

Hell, i i've only completed around 5 or 6 games this whole gen.

When i feel like i've gotten enough out of a game i tend to just move on, unless i'm really into it.

I'm often too busy with multiplayer titles to beat too many games, so usually between 10-20. This year, with the lockdowns, I have so much extra time (and games, with Game Pass everywhere) that I probably beat over 20 already.

The most I've ever done is 40 in 2018. I'd say I usually average about 10-15.

I realized this year that I'm never catching up with my backlog. I've been at home since March with so much extra free time, and I've only finished like 10 games.

Granted I am also 130 hours and counting into Persona 5 Royal.

I don't keep track, though it may be around 10 or more, but I doubt more than 20. I'm having trouble remembering everything I've played this year. I played through quite a few at the beginning of the lockdowns, but then got pretty busy, and lately just haven't been motivated.

Honestly, I'm doing huge backlog cleanup with the pandemic going on. I count 26 so far. I usually do 6 a year

10-20 seems about right, I'd say it's mostly in the lower range of that though. Without thinking too hard, I'm on about eight or so now, set to maybe finish out two or three more depending on what I play.

To add to my previous post: this is actually a really weird year, because I've been playing (and completing) a ton of demos from the various game festivals (steam and GOG both). So I probably played a lot more different games, but they probably wouldn't be considered full games, though.

Maybe 30-40 but this year I'm already at 50.
So yeah I fo have a backlog but it's not too crazy. I also manage to replay older games all the time, otherwise a bocklog probably wouldn't even exist

It feels like I never played as much as I wanted. Duties, time, and economic position never allowed me to enjoy more than 3-5 games per year, for most part of my life.

Trying to change that.

Managed to complete The 52 games 1 year challenge twice in 2018 and 2019. 2020 not, however. Too much time spent messing around in Dreams :P

Currently at 64, doing the 65th as we speak (Age of Calamity).

Tho this is not the norm for me, this year is special. I usually do about 30-ish.

I guess my average is around 3 a year.
The truth is, a lot of the time I like the beginning of games better than the late-game part. I find that nailing the ending part is really difficult, not many games pull it off, and I stop playing as soon as i'm not having fun/i'm not invested anymore. If that's the case, I might restart a game more than once (if I loved the game in the first place) but i'm not chasing completion or trophies so my average stays pretty low.

I still have to finish Skyrim after 300+ hours of playing.

I play very long games so it's difficult to finish a lot of them. This year during quarantine I played many adventures games, so I think I've finished 20 games

I'm probably with you OP. I'd say I average about five games a year and between those I'm playing continuous live service games like R6, Warzone etc.

Saying that I'm not sure how much of that was simply not wanting to constantly be spending money on new games if I was enjoying myself playing multiplayer.

After a week to Game Pass I can feel that habit changing slightly.

Since games can take a while to beat I did always find it funny how common it was for people to have Top Ten lists every year.

The list is basically every game someone has played in a year.

From 2014-2017 I managed to finished the 52 game challenge, so it's just 2018 and 2019 that drops my average below 50 (2018 was particularly brutal, I only finished 9 games that year). This year is my comeback year for the challenge, I'm on track for 52 games (barely!).

It does start to influence the games you play, if you're dedicated to doing well in the challenge. There are a few games that I've sort of shied away from because they can't really be completed in the traditional sense--American Truck Simulator, Factorio/Infinifactory, stuff like that. Roguelikes tend to suffer as well because it's hard to know whether you'll ever finish one and how long it'll take to do so.

I don't remember the last game I finished it might have been RDR1

Rn i'm working on Gears 3, about to finish it too after like playing it on and off the last 2 years.
I'm half way thru Jedi Fallen Order, taking me long there too but i'll get on it after gears
and thennnnn im playin thru the spyro trilogy where in like 2/3rds of the way done for the first game 😭

And then next i wanna continue MHW after not playing for a few years
i'm going to attempt to knock games out more often but it is hard to be in the mood to play them vs like hopping in for a quick few rounds of multiplayer games

I've finished Persona 5 Royal and TLoU 2 this year. Ghost of Tsushima has taken me about 3 months so far. Just reached the second region.

I can barely do over half hour sessions these days. Feel like I've had my fill very quickly

3-7? I don't keep track too much. I know I start more games than I actually finish. That's probably why my count gets all fuzzy.

I selected 3-5 but I really think it's around 1-3 games a year. I don't really have the time but due to the pandemic, I've started playing a bit more than usual.

Usually:0 to 1. I don't tend to complete games, just jump from one to the other always thinking I will go back but never do.
This year though, I've beaten 30 already and on my way to complete Bugsnax, Astro and Miles this weekend. It's a mixture of having more time at home because of no commutes during lockdown and a conscious decision to try and stick to 1 game until I complete it. It feels good.

Used to beat at least 8-10+, but in recent years sometimes only 2 or 3. This year I've beaten 10 so far though, as not really had any service games hook me.
Edit: Games. Can actually do playtime now.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales. 20 hours/Platinum.
Dark Souls 2: SoTFS. 76 hours/Platinum.
Nexomon Extinction.62 hours/Platinum.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey. 192 hours/Platinum (though started in 2018, probably 40 hours this year).
The Last of Us Part 2. 25 hours.
The Last of Us Remastered (replay) 20 hours with some Factions.
Shadow of War. 44 hours.
LoZ: Breath of The Wild. 75 hours (started last year).
Pokemon Sword. 65 hours. (started last year)

Currently replaying Dark Souls 1 and finished 5 games last December during a little Game Pass binge.

I've been tracking that number very recently and have at least done 50+ for the last two years (this year included). I'm currently at 49 finished games this year and intend to beat 52 games for the 52 game 1 year thread again. Currently playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and Dragon Quest 11, might try to fit in two other games that will ensure 52 games completion this year (I know RDR2 and DQ11 are both long as heck)

EDIT: Also, most games I play are not from the current year. For 2020, I've completed 11 2020 releases

It strongly depends on my current gaming habit.

There are times where I am beating game after game after game and then there are times where I am just diving into multiplayer games.

I just checked my Backloggery account and I am between 10 to 20 games a year. That is ... fine but not all too good, considering my large backlog... *sigh*
