I wont talk about the story openly because people should play it and experience it for what it is.

I had purposely been holding out on playing this game until I had my PS5 and I'm sure glad I did. Yes this game had a rough start by wow it turned into something phenomenal. The character development was absolutely amazing, the storylines were great and the environments and atmosphere are insanely well done. The horde mechanic is so fun, the bike gameplay loop was great as well.

I saw the reviews for this game and I cannot understand how it was rated so low(well technically frame rates etc I can) this was one of the best PS4 exclusives of the generation.

Apparently it sold super well too.. but unfortunately it seems a sequel might not be coming? With the Game Director moving on and the Story writer revealing recently he hadnt been at the studio for over a year now. I do hope the story is continued.

Stable organizations have the capability and capacity to go through leadership transitions.

Whether or not DG2 exist or not is beside the point.

Bend is a fairly small studio though right? Additionally it seems the writer left right around release. Thats a bit worrying.

If there's no sequel it's no problem - Days Gone was as long as 2 normal length games.
It was a very very long game indeed but it was great.

130+. Also, he was the sole writer- but since then they've hired at least two writers. Design team also hired a few new people.

In general, across the board Bend does seem to have more people across multiple divisions of the team compared to when they shipped the game.

Thats great to hear I do hope that means there is a Sequel on PS5 coming. This game already looks amazing as a PS4 game imagine the sequel cant wait.

I really liked the game but it might've been a lot buggier which might've caused the review scores. That and the open-world fatigue and all of that.

I remember thinking that besides the hordes there wasn't that much unique about it, and though I wasn't completely wrong, the things aren't unique, it still does really well.

There's nothing cooler than encountering a certain animal while coming across a bandit camp and some type of freaker comes and it's all these systems colliding together to form this great moment. Driving from a jump into a freaker to kill it, or a lightning bolt killing one of them is really cool.

The hordes are also some of the more intense things I've experienced these past few years in games.

Days Gone is amazing. It was one of my three favorite games released last year (Days Gone, Disco Elysium and Death Stranding). Characters/story, world design, core gameplay loop, player progression from a weak starting state with crooked pea shooters, to being a one man, horde-destroying army - Everything was fucking fantastic.

I started this recently after another thread recommended it.'Im still pretty early but I'm blown away by how much I'm enjoying it.

Feels very sim like. I started on survivor because I didn't want the option of fast travel but I don't know what else is different about this mode.

Some things I like -

Motorbike traversal. This is way, way more enjoyable then I was expecting. Coasting down hills to conserve fuel, refueling quickly to avoid being overwhelmed, really nice Arcady driving model. Haven't unlocked boost yet though.

Combat . The shooting with the weapons is very satisfying. Reminds of Far Cry 5 when you set it to realistic. Enemies go down fast if you're aim is good but you'll be overwhelmed if not. Melee and stealth work fine.

I'm super early so can't comment on the story but I like the writing so far.

The bum not for me is while the graphics\HDR are amazing the dark scenes are too bright. You have a torch and can turn on\off your bike headlight but it's so bright at night, it's pointless. It can go from night to day without you really noticing.

Actually this is one of my concerns I originally thought the TOD didnt have night time, turns out its just super bright for no good reason. Would have made night time traversal far far more scary.

I also feel that this game does an RE starts out very survival horrory in that you need to conserve and be careful and slowly you become an action hero which was a cool development over time. Kinda reminded me of how Dying Light slowly made you go from Parkour novice to pro and it felt like a natural progression.

Cool, that's good to hear.

I like the permanence too, though maybe it's just because I'm early. Went passed a cross roads where I'd gotten dragged off my bike and ended up barely surviving before and all the bodies were as I'd left them.

I'd be amazed if they're not already working on a sequel, especially as I'm pretty sure they've expanded since the game came out.

Amazing game and one of my absolute favourites of the generation. The only game I've ever platinumed.

The critical reception it got was weird though, absolutely there were faults here and there that could be improved but so many people seemed to be offended it even existed, "ugh open world zombies, who is it for, what's the point, everyone is tired of zombies" and so on. People seemed very vocally critical of certain elements of Days Gone that would not even merit a mention in another game.

I mean this review https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/...w-copy-of-many-better-open-world-action-games
even starts questioning the point of its existence in the opening paragraph. I don't think I've ever seen that before, regardless of how many mechanically bordeline identical Ubisoft games we get for example, why does a game have to justify its very existence, especially something like Days Gone which had plenty of obvious appeal. And 'generic' was thrown around so much (again in the review above!), it's bizarre to me when there was so much the days gone did that was different or had a twist from a typical formula.

Glad this game is getting love and attention with the PS5 updates. I skipped over it like others to play on PS5 and extremely glad I did. The game does have a slow start, but it gets better with time. The story and characters start to grow on you and once you get better weapons, going after hordes is super exciting.

Definitely looking forward to a sequel and I would platinum this if God of War wasn't calling me.

I'm playing it on PS5 right now and it's amazing. This is way better than I was led to believe. 4K/60 FPS paired with terrific graphics are just insane.

Funny, I just booted this up the other night after grabbing it from the PS Plus thing. I only played an hour or two but I kept thinking, "Woah, this actually seems pretty solid??"

I mean the reviews weren't bad but all the impressions just seemed so...middling about the game? Anyway I'm exciting to check it out some more. Seemed really cool.

And then they nominate Tetris for game of the year ( I adore Tetris effect)

I really enjoying the survival sim side of it. Something I thought should have been in Mad Max, I reckon it's on the cutting room floor for that game as there seemed to be stuff unused . I just mention it as it's one of my very few platinums.

I feel like people hated the game from the moment it was announced, due to it looking too much like The Last of Us combined with some douche from Sons of Anarchy, and then didn't want to ever give the game a fair shot.

I played and platinumed it recently late on PS4 Pro and I loved it. I retrospect the low reviews really annoy me, bad performance costing it points is fine, but Deacon is great as a protagonist and while the game has some open world tropes it does more things differently than many other games that don't get criticized so hard for being derivative.

That became apparent when a lot of the media were either complaining about
1)Open world all of a sudden
2)Zombies all of a sudden(now mind you tlou2,state of decay 2 and dying light 2 were all announced at this time and they never got hit)
3)White protagonist complaints from ign and gamespot which in a bubble is fine and they right except well...it's never mentioned again for any other game

Would you recommend this for a person who normally does not like open world games and was only ever able to finish Horizon zero dawn?

I started it last night on PS5. Graphics are fantastic, but the writing is really bad so far. Feels like a b-tier Walking Dead (and walking dead is terrible as is lol).

I'm going to keep playing it, because the gameplay has been pretty fun and I hear it only gets better, but I'm definitely understanding why this ended up with scores in the 70s so far.

It's really good.

After the first couple hours or so I thought it was just going to be a better version of that tedious Mad Max game. It is that, but more. The story's kept me engaged, the gameplay loop hasn't bored me for some reason, and it runs beautifully on PS5.

Did it?

As with everything, the jump from 30 to 60fps makes a world of difference. Had it debuted on PS5, that score definitely would've gotten a boost.

If you do not like open world games then I probably not recommend Days Gone. It's a fine game but it's 'one of those' and if you don't like those then there's nothing here that is going to radically change your mind. It's Far Cry/Mad Max/etc. Big map with outposts to clear and resources to collect and skill trees to put points into.

It's a really good game. My nitpick would be that it did not need to be as long as it was, and that they should have done a more with the hordes. Underutilized.

I can understand the 7's, but do believe the user score on metacritic is a lot more representative on how a lot of people felt (81)

I played this two months ago on PS4. I had low expectations, but ended up completing the game and really enjoyed it. It certainly has flaws, but the core loop was great.

I finished the game last night and it was pretty ok. I think the metacritic score was on point. Some people refer to it as if a 71 was abysmal, but that a good score LOL.

My major issue was the story, dialogue and line delivery. I liked the characters, but the way the flashbacks were structured I thought was kinda off, the way some characters reacted to the situations was sometimes weird too, and GOD it was glitchy!

Overall I enjoy my time with it and I'd definitely try a sequel.

I'd have it at about an 8 as well. My one problem with the game is the small bugs it has like random events repeating with NPCs you already saved, leading to broken behavior with the AI. The LEAVING MISSION AREA failure is also way too strict in some instances.

The audio in the game was pretty bad. Deacon yelling throw his walkie-talkie all the time while everyone lese had a normal voice.....never understood it. Another thing that happened is I would be in stealth taking down a camp and I would get a call and Deacon would start yelling, yet the enemies didn't notice?

YES! This is one of the things I thought were strange. And it was even weirder when he was giving speeches talking as if he was talking to himself instead of a big crowd.

Why would he scream when talking to someone right next to him and then in such a low voice when you need your voice to be heard?

It was almost as if the actors weren't given proper context of the lines and did whatever they thought was right.

Game didn't lean into the survival elements enough, so they were just there enough to be an annoyance, but not enough to be a worthwhile game mechanic.

Fuel for the bike for example, it drains just fast enough that you'll refuel everytime you pass a petrol station, or pick up a fuel can to use every few Checkpoints, but you're never at risk of running empty, getting stranded and being at risk. So it ends up nothing but a tedious thing.

Amazing game and one of my absolute favourites of the generation.

Same for me. I picked it up for $15 after it being recommended over and over in the PS studios thread, and by the end of the game I felt like I would've picked it up at launch just to support the devs. I know the game had patches to sort some of the early issues, but man I really enjoyed it.

Its because most times he would be on his bike so they just assumed that was the case most of these times so he was yelling over the sound of the bike. But they didnt do what spiderman did and have different voicelines for different situations.

Lol, good to know you gave it a proper chance then.

Honestly, I agree that that opening chase is not great, but it lasts like a minute and after that its a solid upward trajectory (or was for me anyway).

I'll grab it again when I get a PS5.

I would really like to them to expand camp recruitment and building in the sequel. The best example I can think of is something like Digimon World PS1 where you set off and defeat Digimon and after doing so they comeback and build a building in your town like a hospital a restraunt a merchant etc. Imagine that in a game like this just watching your camp just grow over time as you recruit new people you get access to advanced gear and items it would be sick.

I was keeping my eye on this since the PS4 launch, specifically waiting to play it on PS5.

Couldn't make it past the intro and can't see myself going back for a second shot. I guess the rough start is a common sentiment amongst newcomers? But I've learned my lesson with games I've forced myself to immerse into. If I don't like the intro or the first hour, chances are I'm not going to enjoy the rest.
