You're absolutely correct. It's one of the progenitors of cross-platform play :)

EDIT:
If you're in the market for LP1, make sure to get the Colonies Edition. CE includes all previous DLCs, new game modes, the aforementioned PC cross-platform play, and more. Online player base is likely going to be stronger on the CE version today. (and no, vanilla is not multiplayer compatible with CE since it uses a different TitleID)

LP3 is a prequel so I guess you can play that then the first one.

A reminder that all games have a different feel in terms of gameplay/atmosphere. It's a weird trilogy :P

The game's writing and acting is overall very, very good. The game's writers later went on to co-write God of War (2018). 3's weakness is some slightly stodgy Unreal Engine 3-ish gameplay in places.

I always found it kind bemusing how a lot of people to hated Lost Planet 3 the moment they discovered it wasn't a co-op game. Meanwhile its snowy sister title, Dead Space 3, was crucified for having co-op.

It's MT Framework, hence the better lighting, it's really odd they never ported it to PC/PS4/XO despite making a new version for it, the PS4 version is PS2 emulation.

HD Version on PS3 has crushed blacks, in some screens you can't really see jack shit, like in the bridge with the healing herb in the beginning of the game.
