The absence of a native next-gen version honestly gives a hint of how remastered this actually is.

Hopefully they'll at least do some sort of half-step update the same way they eventually added 60fps to True Colors(or Xbox saves the day with FPS Boost). But it's definitely scummy not to specify last gen in the Ultimate Edition.

Basically you want a remake that was never plausible within the timeframe.

I get the frustrations but people need to realize Deck Nine is pretty smol.
Maybe they shouldn't have announced a "remaster" then? Or they could have delayed longer and actually released a more noticeably improved remaster that actually takes advantage of current gen consoles.

That being said I got these as part of the True Colors bundle so they are now installing lol

I mean that what the vast majority of remaster are the same game with all the content at higher resolution/framerate with some texture improvement (if you are lucky)
I'm pretty sure the 1st game run on the same version of UE as True Color but that doesn't make a game better looking by itself.

Stores/General Entitlement Notes:

For clarity, we wanted to share some information in advance of any issues you might face when trying to download the game as part of entitlement to the Life is Strange: True Colors Ultimate Edition, or otherwise.

· Life is Strange: True Colors Ultimate Edition customers will see/be able to download the Remastered Collection games to which they are entitled once the two Remastered games are released. Because of the way console store bundles are structured, Add-Ons and bonus bundle content are not visible on-store and in a customer's console library until they are actually released. This may have presented as being able to add the Life is Strange Remastered Collection to your store cart before release / not see the games you have purchased as part of the Ultimate Edition. Now that the games are released, you should be able to see them, ready for download. You may need to refresh or restart your console if they have not appeared automatically after 5PM GMT / 9PM PST on February 1.

  • On PlayStation, both games are available as cross-generation compatible PS4 versions, so there is no PS5-specific version available to purchase. The PS4 version on the PlayStation store will run on PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS5..
  • The two games install / can be installed separately from one another, appear as separate games in your library, and are launched independently. They can only be purchased as the paired Remastered Collection - except on Stadia, where the games are available separately.
  • Do let us know through our customer support link if you are still experiencing any issues with your game entitlement:

Pre-Order Zombie Crypt Chloe Outfit DLC

We have become recently aware, due to some last-minute issues, that the pre-order bonus 'Zombie Crypt' Outfit for Chloe is missing from the PlayStation and Stadia versions of Life is Strange: Before the Storm Remastered. All customers who pre-ordered the game up to 8am PST on the day of launch will receive the outfit DLC entitlement once an upcoming patch is issued, and we stress your entitlement is not affected. We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience to your first experience with the game. Expect news on when to expect this patch soon.

Rest assured we are dedicated to improving the user experience of the Life is Strange: Remastered Collection post-launch through a series of patches. I guess the update to 4k is nice at least, but I believe you could already play the original at 4k on PC.

I'm playing the first remastered right now and I'm noticing a lot of stuttering in the classroom on XSX. Is anyone else?

Wait, is there no 60fps mode on Series X? That's the one thing that seemed like a no-brainer to me. I mean, the last-gen version of the original release is FPS boosted and I'm 99% certain Before the Storm had a 60fps mode built-in originally. I just started downloading them so I can't check yet but please tell me I'm mistaken. Because that seems like a straight up downgrade if so.

Feels like 30fps to me playing through the first game.

Dang, that's a huge bummer for me. I just got BTS downloaded and that does at least still have a high framerate mode. I'll at least take my time with that and maybe by the time I get to OG LiS it'll be miraculously patched in
Hope you are right and they do patch it in. I'm going to stop playing for now. Just went to the courtyard after telling the principal and I'm not gonna play all the way through in its current state. I already played through the original game like 3 times previously and this doesn't feel like it's worth it at this point to play it a 4th time.

I forgot there was anti-vax commentary in the bathroom in the first game. Surprised they didn't take that out.

I wouldn't say it's anti-vax, just Max being annoyed that last time she got the shot it made her ill. I think saying it's anti-vax is reading too much into it.
Saying she got the flu after getting the flu shot and saying she isn't getting another or something to that effect came off as anti vax to me, but I guess people can interpret things in different ways.

Do I play Before the Storm first or do I play Life is Strange first?

I'd say release order, so Life is Strange first. Before the Storm is a prequel, but as far as I remember it wasn't intended for first time players not familiar with the universe. Especially the Farwell DLC, which is really really good, doesn't really work emotionally if you didn't play the main game first.

I'm playing Before the Storm first. So the game is still using Unity, sadly. The video settings are exactly the same as the OG release, which means there isn't even an in-game v-sync option. I started with the bonus episode and performance seems fine. I want to use DSR but Unity doesn't roll that way. 🙃 Going to see if solutions for the original release still work. I am disappointed there.

Anyone on PS4 getting terrible tearing at the borders of the screen?

EDIT: Now I have tutorial text stuck on my screen that won't go away even during gameplay. Filters go crazy sometimes when a cutscene switches to a new angle. Not even past the prologue, and this seems buggy as hell.

End of episode 1 it switches to a 5 minute pre-rendered cutscene that's low res 🤦‍♂️ (On Xbox)

This remaster is really low effort stuff. no reason it should be 30fps or not have the option for 60. Some scenes had a weird lighting bug where it kept changing between shots which was very distracting.

The animations are an improvement and it's nice not to have the jitters and texture pop in that happened on the old consoles when changing scene but this is not worth paying for…it might actually be worse than playing the fps boosted original on Xbox?

I was really impressed with the dialog in True Colors. I think it might have the best dialog of all the LiS games Ive played. Does Before the Storm have a similar quality in dialog?

I am glad I waited before purchasing this. I did not know until this thread that there is not a PS5/Series X version. Saved myself $40.

It's telling me that the remaster is PS4 only for some reason. BTS is downloading tho. Anyone else have this issue?

I'm trying to play on PS5

Enjoying my time with BTS so far, even though I've played most of it before. This is one of the only game series that has me checking out everything in each scene before moving on. There's such a meditative pace to these games.

Oh what the flying fuck, you mean to tell me they re-rendered (and touched up) the pre-rendered sequences and still kept them as bit starved videos?

I'm willing to cut D9 a lot of slack, but this is a major disappointment.

I don't want keep reporting everything wrong with this, but I want to highly suggest everyone playing the original game on PS, especially for the first time, to wait for a patch. The first episode is just co(s)mically screwed up, from lighting to text overlay issues to audio bugs. The screen tearing might just be my TV setting, but I've played with it for like an hour and couldn't fix it no matter the settings.

They fucked up Max's face in this remaster. I did like seeing Max in tears at the beginning though, that was a good touch.

I regret spending as much as i did on these games including True Colors.

After seeing a couple more comparison shots and gameplay on Twitch, I'm definitely not feeling the $30+ on this. I just saw someone's subtitles switch to asset file names lol

Same for me on the PS5. Tearing at the borders and the tutorial text. Also a repeating sentence after leaving the class room the first time. I like the changes but I am surprised how unpolished it is.

It's pretty apparent that these are coming in hot. I can only hope they bother to patch post-launch, and the only thing that gives me faith they will is that True Colors got a couple major patches within like a month that fixed stuff/added performance options on consoles.

But this being treated as more of a freebie/side thing also makes me wonder if they'll bother doing much. I'm not a professional by any means and I'm sure there's time pressure and other dev reasons but it's outright shocking to me that they weren't able to do the basic 60fps mode on current consoles.

It's funny how I can play the original Xbox One release at 60fps with FPS Boost, Auto HDR, and Quick Resume on Series X but this Remaster doesn't have HDR, capped at 30fps, and doesn't work with Quick Resume on Series X.
