Can someone explain to me why Samsung is planning to re-enter the OLED market in the next two years? I keep reading about their re-entrance into the OLED TV market. And how MicroLED isn't that far away. Something isn't adding up here. Why would they re-enter the OLED market if MicroLED is so close to market?

Samsung wants to merge their Quantom Dot tech with OLED which will result in much brighter OLEDS at lower cost. Micro and Mini LED are years away from being mass market products. Samsung needs a product in the near future to win back costumers or LG will eat more into their marketshare. That's why the invest in OLED again.

Any indication if these will have DisplayPort?

My guess, is that they are not going to include DP as they need SOMETHING to distinguish between these TVs, and the Gaming OLED monitors that are being introduced at CES As well. Since they are making Panels for both products, DP and no HDMI 2.1 are really the only difference between these TVs and those Monitors.

SED flashbacks? I remember this was the wonder tech of forever. And it never amounted to anything. This is why, when I see a recent article stating Samsung is shutting down an LCD factory to start making OLEDs there, it makes me question things. We've been teased a lot of "perfect" tvs in the days since LCD slaughtered CRT. MicroLED just seems too perfect. There has to be a catch.

Okay. Now this makes sense. I googled a bit after I posted that comment and I've seen that Samsung really lost a ton of market share to LG after they abandoned OLED the first time (especially the premium market). It makes sense to have a fallback option and that MicroLED, actually isn't the sure thing people are making it out to be.

Samsung has opened a new factory to produce QDOLED for TVs (they are the biggest producer of OLED for mobiles and small displays by a large margin.)

The factory is going to be producing Quantum Dot based OLED displays. They are prepping to move towards that as the Chinese companies will quickly outpace their LCD capability

Well that's the thing, becaus Nvidia published a tweet today calling these displays BFGD's like the others...so, maybe?

Ok, so they don't have Gsync modules, they use VRR standard protocols like Freesync, Nvidia just expanded what Gsync means to include the standard and people are running with it

Do we have our official "Get this TV for PS5" TV yet, as voted by consensus?

Whelp I won't be getting a new TV untill my brand new one breaks, so 50, 000 hours or more? By then we'll have 8k as the standard, and these TVs will be bargain bin level.

Damn, when buying the C8 I did not think about things like ALLM or g-sync support :( Given my use case, the new series would be perfect.

Looks like i'll be skipping this year like I did from B7 to 8 Series, OLED TV has been nearly a yearly thing to me lol I just got C9 and I think it's nearly feature parity for now.

Seeying that the official price for the C9 65 inch is 3500 euros while i could have one for 1950 right now, i expect the CX to cost about 3500 for quite some time after PS5 launch, then there'll be the next model. Decisions, decisions... XD

We don't have full specs for anything yet, but I think a lot of people will say the C9 and CX

What's the difference between those two?

I've got a C8 currently. Almost got the C9 but decided to wait it out for 2020's sets. C9 will probably be dirt cheap by then but I wouldn't mind shelling it out for a significant upgrade.

By disabling certain post-processing effects (such as motion smoothing, noise reduction and sharpening) while perfectly preserving correct aspect ratios, colors and frame rates, LG OLED TVs with the Filmmaker Mode faithfully replicate the original vision of the director.

"Filmmaker Mode" - turning shit off is now a feature lol

Right now what we know is it has a newer processor and some image enhancement features that come with that.

The presentation around the G-Sync stuff is really poorly communicated, this is not a G-Sync monitor in the sense that it has a G-Sync module in it, instead it's just a certification that these displays generally perform well with their implementation of FreeSync.

How well the VRR features work in real life and the range it works in is still up in the air, the media should really call it "G-Sync certified" since it can mean something very different if you are used to monitors with a proper G-Sync module.

With that said, I need one of those TV's to replace my 55' C8 👀.

So now that the BX has the same processor as the CX, the B-line is back to being just as good, albeit with a more basic design? Or will there be other differences in brightness, inputs or something?

Wait so the C9 doesn't? As someone who games on an Xbox One X and plans on getting a Series X soonish after launch, should I be eyeing the CX instead of the C9?

The C9 does support VRR from Xbox One X via HDMI-VRR (a feature from the HDMI 2.1 standard), just not Freesync from AMD GPUs.

Apparently XBox One X supports both HDMI-VRR and Freesync.

Where are you getting that? The article I read said they all used the same processor except for the BX, which used an older processor.

You guys think B6 --> CX is a worthwhile upgrade? Want to upgrade for next gen but not unless it's a relatively major upgrade picture-wise.

Can confirm! Hoping it will last for a long time but I'm going to have to move it at some point which I'm terrified about.

Hahahah, yep. We made the mistake of NOT confining our heavy-set chonker of a cat to another room while setting the tv up, and man, we had a few heartstoppers as he leapt toward the TV a few times, lol.

What do you think about the claims made here?

I've never noticed the blacks on my C9 being anything other than black and he's claiming brighter HDR and more saturated colours etc, all seems hard to believe.

I've got a boner, here. Those impressions sound amazing.

Oh, and 5ms input lag when gaming at 120hz? NICE!

Porn. GTFO with those overpriced gaming monitors.

Yeah, we've oven mistaken our set for being off, when in fact it was a dark screen transition or something. It's astonishingly, perfectly black. And the HDR is intensely bright. Two amazing things to show it off that we recently watched/played: The Expanse (Amazon Prime TV series -- its intro is full of outstanding blacks and incredibly bright/intense lights/whites) and Tetris Effect on PS4 Pro (gorgeous and wide contrast between the brights and the darks -- just look at the title screen. goddamn)

Got a B7 in early 2018 but HDMI 2.1 is making for a very tempting upgrade. If 65 CX comes down to ~1800 at some point before new models in 2021, I'll be really considering it.

Got an 65e9 end of last year but really tempted to by the 77 gallery model. Will be shifting the e9 in to the bedroom. 65 seems too small already after a couple of months.

Have any brightness improvements been noted? Obviously it won't compare an higher end LCD display, but that was one of the improvements I was hoping for in this years model.

The way that pricing has gone this year, I'm expecting that by Novemberish time, I would be able to grab something like the 2020 C9 from Costco for around $1700 w/ a $100 giftcard w/ extra 3 year warranty at the very least. Then the B9 would be probably $100-$150 cheaper.

They make it sound like the new tvs blows the C9 out of the water. I was planning on picking up a C9 hopefully for a solid price but now I don't know...
